I like to say this very thing about Australians... anyone that introduces themselves "owning multiple properties" as some kind of win over others, when owning property in Australia requires the "least amount of brainpower", similarly to watching grass grow, is a sure way to admit you're dumbest campaigner in the room. Congratulations for outing yourself.
Plus its stealing the chance to own homes from other people.

First against the wall when the revolution comes.

Someone asked about the 2024 attempt

In September 2024, the Venezuelan police captured and arrested three Americans, two Spaniards, and a Czech national carrying sniper rifles and other munitions to allegedly assassinate Maduro.[153] In a public statement, the Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello held the CIA and Spanish intelligence responsible for the coup attempt, calling it 'not surprising'. The minister shared that they had arrested yet another US military active-duty member, Wilber Joseph Castañeda, with evidence from his cell phone linking him to terrorist attacks during the 2024 Venezuelan presidential election.[154]
That's it. There was some weird connection to the US state dept. At least i think there was. Honestly can't remember.

BTW Thanks.

Having signed up to AUKUS and US nuclear subs that may never be delivered, meant that we handed over the sovereignty of our national defence to a despot.

Xi will be looking at invading Taiwan pretty intently now knowing the US has effectively given him the green light with its actions in Venezuela. And the likelihood of military conflict in the Asia Pacific region before the end of Trump's reign is a distinct possibility.

"..now a rogue aggressor.."???

When exactly was the US a "guardian of international law"?

...Anyway this has been fun, but off with the Mrs to look at a new Rolex and discuss our next investment property (12 and counting..)
I love how this guy just decided to cosplay an idealised version of himself, and even in his wildest fantasies he is still a loathsome campaigner.

i’m glad we have a dove in office! no wars, and peace across the world!
I love my own cultural intersection.

I will forever have Maureen Dowd's "Donald the Dove, Hillary the Hawk" article coupled with Bumble's story on MMM about a gender neutral bathroom and hearing "Is that you Maureen?"

Who said sport and politics doesn't mix?

Anyone complaining about Maduro's arrest bothered to mention he was originally indicted in 2020? Trump's clearly played the long game but Biden kept up the criminal case and arrest reward.

Also, probably listen to all the Venezuelans on social media and look at the scenes coming out of the country after Maduro's arrest.

Russia, China and Iran have been using Venezuela since Chavez ousted the democratically elected leader in '07 and Venezuela's been the destabilizing force in the Americas since then.

I wonder if people know that Venezuela has had the 2nd largest exodus of people fleeing the country after Syria since 2014? Nearly 8 million people have fled the country since then.

Also, this aged badly :$

It seems this administration favourite movies are ‘Clear and Present Danger’ and ‘Airforce One’
They were talking about US TV on The Rest is Politics US and Scaramucci was describing how Trump said to his boring lawyers "haven't you heard of Perry Mason" in an effort to motivate them.

The man is stuck in a time warp.

finding a lot of parallels with the tom clancy books (including the ones written by other authors)
  • had something like covid lockdowns in "Executive orders" when trying to contain the Ebola; that one also starts with the plane crash wiping out the Congress (like 9/11 terrorists)
  • recent publication "line of demarcation" talks about a coalition between Wagner group and "a pack of Venezuelan narco terrorists"

I’m sure Trump actually believes that Perry Mason was a real person.

Trump confirmed that the CIA had a source inside the Maduro government, which suggests the US may have explored an internal deal: hand over Maduro and retain power. From that perspective, democracy was likely never the primary objective.

Instead, greater control over global oil supply fits more comfortably with how Washington typically operates, particularly in a world where energy is increasingly weaponised. If China is prepared to use rare earths as leverage, it follows that the US would respond by leaning on its gargantuan oil and energy advantage.

In that context, if Venezuela can achieve a degree of internal stability, such an arrangement could work for a time, even if it falls well short of genuine democratic reform that should ideally be the primary focus.

Today is not a good day for democracy even if there's one less dictator in charge.

Should have stopped here

Cute fantasy though lol
Yep. Sunday morning = quality time with family. He feels the need to spend it boasting to people he has never met and never will = underlying insecurity, seeking external validation and admiration to feel important/mask feelings of emptiness. A need to feel superior. Pitiful.

I have 101 Wisdens and a complete run of ABC cricket books ergo my opinion on US politics is more valid than yours.

Energy isnt being increasingly leveraged. This isnt the 70s or even the 80s and 90s where there was a couple of major oil suppliers across the world and oil was the only game in town.

Oil is a dying industry. Geopolitics is being played in rare earths, semiconductors, AI, green tech and copper. Not oil.

Even if the opposition leader, who supposedly won 75% of the vote last election, leads the country?

That would seem like a great outcome, but I doubt Trump will be letting anyone govern the country until he as "leader of Venezuela" sign Chevron and ExxonMobil up to a substantial number of contracts.

Well, getting the USA to spend billions on military intervention needs to come with some kind of kickback. They're not going to do it for free.

It's important to note that at one time, Venezuela had the 4th largest GDP in the world(in the 50's) after the (mostly)USA developed their oil industry, received extraction rights and obviously paid taxes to the Venezuelan government. It wasn't until Venezuela nationalised their oil industry in 1976 that the decline began, primarily due to corruption over the country's 'elite' keeping the oil revenues for themselves and not actual developing the industry further.

Actually, it just goes to show how either inept the Iraq 8 year war was, or how manufactured it was for the Military Industrial Complex to profit from.

So a socialist group wants to organise protests across Australia in support of the totalitarian tyrant Maduro. Im confused. I thought all the socialist totalitarian regimes wasnt real socialism?
Here's clips from the protest in NY. Amazing how quickly they got their mass produced protest signs ready.

Also funny in a clip I watched(no link sorry) how some guy in the protest is going off at Venezuelans standing on the side giving them shit for protesting.

I reckon we should round all these people up and send them to the socialist dictatorship of their choice.

'The next obvious observation is that by removing Maduro this is a clear move for control over Venezuelan oil supplies that will ensure stability for the next obvious regime change war in Iran.'

Good point MTG

It would be a good start, but I'm not confident that will occur.

That is the flaw in the American plan. They want the world to return to that period of time.

Do you remember that failed "mercenary" op in Venzuala sometime in the last year?

Not gonna bother trying to search for it now with all this recent shit polluting the search.
Actually didn't, had to do a search. Back in January, lame duck Biden might have okayed the mercenary scheme to disrupt Maduro's inauguration. TBH before this year I hadn't paid much attention to Venezuela. Maduro says two high level Americans were part of the bunch arrested.
As I said, getting rid of Maduro is probably a deep state sort of thing, institutional policy than a Trump initiated one. If oil is one of prime motivators here, then even more so. I think the Trump admin has been more conducive for open hostilities. No idea who came up with the Noriega play redux.
Very interesting conspiracy theories going about. The Chinese delegation being there certainly adds sauce to the bbq.
