How does his wage work in a situation like this? Or is it as simple as whatever is written in his contract?

The Magpies are not planning on Bobby Hill’s return this year

Collingwood are not factoring Bobby Hill into their plans for the season, with the small forward still yet to resume training.

The club has not ruled Hill out. But a month out from their first game of the 2026 season, Hill is yet to return to training and there are no indications the 2023 Norm Smith medallist will return in the short-to-medium term as he battles personal issues, according to three sources with knowledge of his situation speaking on the condition of anonymity due to its sensitivity.

Hill earns around $750,000 per year and is contracted until 2030 after signing a four-year contract extension in April last year. He had originally been contracted until the end of this year.

Hill has now de-conditioned to such an extent that he will require months of training to get back to a level capable of playing football, and would then need a period in the VFL before any senior return. Even if he returned to the club in the next week, it would be mid-season at the earliest before he would be ready to play, and there are no short-term plans for him to return.

Hill’s estranged partner, who is now pregnant, is back in Perth. While Hill is living in Melbourne, he is not training. He has regularly been seen out at Melbourne venues.

The club announced in early January the small forward had again taken an indefinite leave from the club after he didn’t return for pre-season training after Christmas. Hill had sporadically trained prior to Christmas.

He was also absent for most of the second half of last season with personal issues. Collingwood, who were on top of the ladder on 12 wins after round 15 when Hill took personal leave, won five games and lost six in the remaining 11 matches including finals. Hill returned to play in the VFL but was not deemed fit or match-ready enough to play senior football.

Hill will clearly be in breach of his contract, so it depends on how Collingwood want to manage it. I imagine (speculate) they will want to keep doors open, meaning they would pay something of his wage, but presumably not all so as to keep faith with those who are turning up for work. All negotiated through Hill's manager, I assume.

Collingwood won't dick him for dollars because he'd squeal on the out of cap shit.

So he'll sit it out, they'll pay him out of the giant government sponsorship, overexposed sponsorship, preferential fixture pot of money and everyone will ride off into the sunset.

Was never a Benny Hill fan, so don't give a **** and neither should you lot.

They've just recruited the trifecta of terrible in Phillip, Tickles and farken Fords. If Cadbury rereleased this in AFL form, all that would be left after you've had 4 cones would be the Phillip, Tickles and ****en Ford pieces.
The Pie is cooked, mark my ****en words.

Wild details of the Boxing Day brawl that has entangled AFL veteran Steven May have been aired in court for the first time as pressure continues to mount on the embattled Melbourne defender.
The allegations against May and Richmond midfielder Dion Prestia were revealed in the Dromana Magistrates’ Court on Thursday as the third man charged over the late-night fracas outside the Continental Hotel in Sorrento on December 26, 2024, admitted he was involved.

Blairgowrie local Storm Bobridge, 26, was fined $7500 with conviction after pleading guilty to affray.

He was charged in October alongside the AFL stars, with police also charging May with affray and Prestia with recklessly causing serious injury, intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury and affray.

Storm Bobridge was fined $7500 with conviction after pleading guilty to one count of affray.

May and Prestia have since declared that they will fight their charges.

Last month, their top defence lawyer Tony Hargreaves told the court there was a statement from a witness who says neither men were “physically present or involved in the fight”.

But on Thursday, the prosecutor laid out the police case that painted a different picture.

The court heard tensions began to brew between a group of AFL players and a group of locals at the nearby Sorrento Hotel when May is alleged to have “put his arm around” a woman while her boyfriend was close by.

The prosecutor said the locals, including Bobridge and his mate Will Salter, walked up to May and told him to take his arm off the woman, sparking a verbal altercation.

The locals then left the venue to head to the Continental Hotel, with the prosecutor claiming that May yelled out to the group as they left.

By 1am, the AFL players also made their way to the popular Mornington Peninsula pub, but were denied entry because the venue was closing.

The locals, who were standing nearby on Point Nepean Rd, were allegedly approached by May, with another war of words erupting before May was ushered away.

The AFL players started to walk back to the Sorrento Hotel when one of their mates, who was not named in court, was confronted by Bobridge and struck to the side of the head.

Tempers flared and the two groups clashed, with one man yelling: “Come on man, let’s go.”

“May grabbed Bobridge and struck him to the head, causing the rest of both groups to start throwing punches,” the prosecutor claimed.

“The group of males associated with May and Prestia swarm Bobridge … and Mr Salter then goes to assist Bobridge and as he does this he senses someone coming from his left hand side and turns to see Prestia coming towards him and punch him to the left eye area.”

Mr Salter and Bobridge were then “kicked and punched to the head and body” by the group, but it is unclear whether May and Prestia are alleged to be involved in this part of the assault.

The court heard Mr Salter is now losing sight in his left eye after his retina was detached and his eye socket fractured, while Bobridge sustained a concussion and severe damage to his left knee.

Magistrate Michael King, who sentenced Bobridge, described this type of violence as a “scourge” on society.

The case comes only days after the Herald Sun revealed that police attended May’s home last Thursday following reports of threatening behaviour.

The Melbourne Football Club has asked May for more details about why police visited his home and the AFL integrity unit is investigating.

Following the affray charges in October, Melbourne Football Club said May had advised that “he was not involved in the alleged incident and will strongly defend the charge in court”.

Prestia also issued a statement claiming that he was not involved in the fight.

“I was not even physically present when it apparently took place,” he said.

“I deny that I am guilty of these offences and will strenuously defend these charges.”

In November, the Herald Sun revealed that the fracas may have been sparked over unwanted advances to a woman.

Prestia played in the flags of Richmond’s triple premiership-winning era between 2017 and 2020, while May played in the Demons’ drought-breaking flag in 2021.

They will return to the Frankston Magistrates’ Court for a contest mention on February 20.

Will and Tess will be solid pick ups to make up VFL numbers. Ford…not so much.

What a mess.

So Bobridge started the blue by throwing punches? And was finished by May and Prestia? There is lacking context as to why May had his arm around a woman..

If you dont want your retina detached or end up with concussion or damaged knees.. keep ya hands to yourself. That doesn’t sound like May went and started the fight. Just finished it.

Im on the fence with this one.
