From the Herald Sun / Geelong Addy:

"Jeremy Cameron didn’t train at Waurn Ponds Deakin University on Wednesday during Geelong’s light session after he sustained a minor quad injury on Monday."

Probably the most concerning from all of the players mentioned is the lack of talk about Mitch Knevitt. He was supposedly training the house down last preseason and was selected early before an injury somewhat derailed his potential to improve and/or establish himself.
Now this year (assuming he is fit) he has not been mentioned at all - if he cant break into the side this year does it spell the end for him? - not certain of his contract status
I like him for his size andletic attributes - just cant determine if he is "contact shy" or unable to position himself in the AFL as he does in the VFL
Knevitt would have been better off ending up with Richmond or West Coast, who lack wing and midfield depth. Maybe Melbourne or Essendon too?

Geelong have Holmes, Smith, Atkins, Dempsey, Mannagh, Miers, Dangerfield, Worpel, Bruhn and Bowes as preferable options in one or both of those positions.

Actually he was talked about and it was mentioned that he was training really well, not missing a beat. But that was back in December. That is not to say he'll make it, but I really hope he does.

Undoubtedly true, but he really wants to break into this geelong team, which you gotta love.

Sounds like we've found our mystery man.

Disappointing, but if CHAWKS is on the money and it's only the first couple of weeks then things should still be okay.

For me personally, it doesn't change much. I had us losing to the Suns and beating Freo with Cameron, and still feel the same way if he's absent.

Regroup and revaluate from there. Adelaide at KP will be a challenge, but hardly impossible. I'd say we can do that without him too.

I thought he was ok against Essendon late in the year but it's probably not a great sign for him that they went with Clark for finals. It was probably the right call given how well Clark played against Hawthorn.

Knevitt looks like he second guesses himself a lot. In some ways he reminds me of Zach Guthrie who did a lot right but was frozen by indecision early in his career. But that might be overly optimistic.

From the HeraldSun.
—————————-

Jeremy Cameron didn’t train at Waurn Ponds Deakin University on Wednesday during Geelong’s light session after he sustained a minor quad injury on Monday.

The Cats remain hopeful he will play in their second practice match against Carlton on February 25.

Tyson Stengle is working towards a return during the season after being granted additional personal leave this pre-season.

The goalsneak ran laps during the Cats’ match simulation on Monday and completed more running and took part in light drills on Wednesday, where he showed signs of his forward smarts.

Assistant coach Nathan Buckley took charge of Wednesday’s session and gave plenty of voice.

Mitch looks like hes put more size on again and the running tests he is doing well. But hes always ace at those his issue is the speed of in game dscision making and you cant see that til the matches start.

This is the preseason we needed to try him in the backline

I know there's been a little bit of chat about him not really appearing in any SoO promos, but he's included here - the photos of Lawson & Max look like they've been given a guernsey a size or two too big for the promo shoot though

Guthrie is a decent comparison as he did look nervous and then became a good player. Although I think that was more because he had an auskick body than anything else. Knevitt is stronger and a better athlete at the same stage but does struggle with slow decisions at times. Athletically he has the tools you wang if the confidence can get there. The counterpoint to the negative of slow decisions is that is that unlike a lot of our young players who we give one role when they come in the side (guys like osullivan and dempsey and even Holmes are examples) knevitt keeps getting shuffled between different roles and some guys cant be confident and decisive unless they have one clear role and I wonder if hes that. We will see its a make or break year for him.

We still might have to the way kolo is going.
Knevitt isn't as big, strong or effective in 1v1 contests as Kolo though.

If we're being serious, Knevitt as a defender would be more like coverage for O'Connor or Zuthrie - with a fair bit less mongrel and stopping power, but some extra height.

Here's a list of who has been mentioned in press conferences as having a big person.

Mitch Edwards has been mentioned a few times. Clearly the leader in training the house down. Dempsey and Atkins definitely name dropped him.

Miers and Stewart were mentioned by Dempsey.

Worpel was talked up by Atkins too.

SDK just pumped up Jhye Clark.

So there's a list of players to expect big things from or accept that preseason is all just fluff when they don't live up to the hype.
Is “having a big person” a euphemism?

He isnt proven to be but you dont know without trying it, I do agree he would be more an interceptor than a lock down. We dont have much tall defender depth though so one or two injuries and it might be something we try.

Wtf do we always play Coll and Carlton within quick succession every year. This time throw Bris into the middle of those games.
Seems the season kind of follows a blue print and it's always 2/3 teams that rotate through each fixture weeks.

Maybe it's just me but feels that way
