Surely it's more people reassessing based upon new information being available. I don't think we'll be any less wins yet than my first ladder prediction, but then I didn't factor in an explosion from Curtin. Some may have included that in their original prediction, so it would make sense to review that. I don't think we'd want any more injuries from our top dozen though.

Plus there's the swapping of Keane with Butts, who I like and I think should have played out the year in favour of Murray. But there's no hiding away from the fact that Keane was high up in the league for intercepts and also rebound 50s. Butts is good at what he does, but it's not the same as what Keane does, so there's a question mark in terms of how our intercept and drive from defensive 50 is going to be impacted.

For the record, I'd still predict us as around 6th based on the first 20 or so rounds of last year, but my ladder predictor had us finishing around 8th.

But I don't think anyone suggesting our current injuries are downgrading their expectations as a form of coping.

Most won't admit the protecting of their feelings is really what is driving them and it obviously does not apply to everyone.

People absolutely do downplay expectations to shield themselves from disappointment, this is an undeniable fact about nuffs (and humans). We've all followed football enough to have witnessed this type of behaviour.

I think Adelaide supporters are even more susceptible to this, been a long time since the last flag, it wears people down. It's not just the flag drought though, it's the constant kick to the plums this club provides.

They won’t admit it because you’ve made it up, it’s nonsense

If we truly ditch Reilly O'Brien for season 2026 we could enter the season with zero whipping boys in the best 23

It would be a glorious departure from our modus operandi. And one of those green flags that might indicate we have what it takes to go all the way. Selection has been such a hazard that we've tripped into on countless occasions.

Some were comparing ANBs output to that of Lachlan Murphy last season. So I suppose he's next in line by that metric!

You cannot be serious?

Chayce Jones, Sam Berry, Nick Murray, Luke Pedlar, and Brayden Cook would all be very good candidates for whipping boy of the week,

Since when is Nick Murray or Luke Pedlar a whipping boy? The main issue most have with Pedlar is his lack of durability.

The others, I don't expect to be in the side when our best 23 are on the park

Good luck with the "calm down" suggestion. That little gem always has the opposite effect. I learned that from my misses.

Yeah I taught my son

"Whenever you are having an argument with your wife, never say Calm Down, it will just make them angrier. It is better to say You are beginning to sound like your mother and if I was married to your mother, at least I could come home to a clean house and a decent cooked meal"

Best to ignore anyone that thought Neal-Bullen's output was even remotely similar to Murphy

Do you are saying, Nick Murray wasn’t subjected to many derogatory posts last year?

That sounds like the begging of a whipping boy, especially if we have a bad start and lose a few games. The negative attention will have to go to someone.

Happy to be wrong and no whipping boy is made a scapegoat.

Geez.. are you and Kane hanging out and working yourselves up?

Really don't see any hysteria. Just an observation that we had a world class fitness guru in charge of and have been really healthy over the past 4 years - especially at the beginning of the year.

Then our guy gets poached by Juventus. Now this preseason we have a lot of reports about injuries - Curtin, Keane, Draper, Rankine, Ah Chee, Soligo, Cumming and Hinge all have question marks a month out.

Now with a month to go - all but Curtin and Keane could pull up perfectly fine and we go into Rd 1 looking like we have the past 4 seasons. Hope that is the case, but as of mid-feb its worth conversation.
You need to break the injuries down to contact (doesn't matter who is in charge) versus soft tissue (training related to fitness guy).

You cannot put blame on Mckeown for Curtin and Keane. Draper had this issue before he came and it appears has been managed well to allow him to play some pre-season.

Achee was in an SoO game where he flew 3 hrs but this can be put down to training. Rankine and cummings had issues with hamstrings with burgess and GWS fitness staff so likely to be the same under anyone else.

Soligo seems to be battling OP which was apparently noticeable under burgess so again cannot be solely contributed to McKeown.

I would also want any contact injuries like curtin & keane's to occur now when there is 4-6 weeks of recovery time without any games being played. They have ability to then do a mini pre-season while in season and SANFL to come back to get match fitness. Better than getting injured in round 18 and then missing the finals.
