That first quarter was horrendous but partially think that’s the absence of Kako. May, Wright, Langford and Guelfi don’t have the mobility to be playing chaos footy. Balance it out with another high quality ground level player to support Caddy/El-Acker and we probably get more value despite the lack of clean disposal.

Everyone always points to the previous years top 4 side that doesn't play these well as proof nobody cares.

But thing is, thats ok for those clubs, you know they've got the extra gear, they can afford to start slow.

Garbage teams like us and Richmond though, pre-season is important, it sells hope, it gives you momentum because you dont have the luxury of knowing you can step up a gear.

If you're an Essendon fan you don't come away from this thinking we'll win the flag, but you do come away with hope for the season.

What do you come away with if you're a Tigers fan?
West Coast hammered us last year in the preseason just like your lot did to us today. It's a practice game.

Even though you got a bit hammered I'd say you still stemmed the bleeding in the 2nd half which you should come away being happy with. Good maturity for such a young group. Grlj is awesome.

Anyone know if tsatas is playing vfl next?
Only stayed for the first 15 minutes of the next game but yeas Tsatas is playing. Started in the middle with Vigo ruck and Gresham in the middle as well. McMahon FF.

For the record.
Merrett running laps before the game.
Cox, Edwards, Pekins, Robey, Jones and Bryan doing some skills work before the game as well as a decent block of running.

Good signs for you mob, Parish will be a new recruit, and you have some good kids.

Not too bothered by result, we're a long way off it and were pretty inexperienced today. Not ideal, but not panicking.

Grlj looked electric and so composed in traffic. Going to be an absolute stud for you guys!

I actually think what the forward line was missing was a 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th medium marking forward

Only real letdown for me this game has been Roberts. Everyone else gets a massive tick.
a let down?

The main reason his kicking was noticeable was that he got so damn much of the ball. He was actually rather good

No his kicking was so noticeable because he had at least 5 extremely bad clangers. Don't care if he's getting the ball a lot of he's using it horribly.

Modern game is about good kicking not high possession counts. If possessions mattered Tsatas would be a star

Just some thoughts from an outsider who watched the game.

Farrow looked class, very nice user of the ball doesn't seem flustered by the upgrade in pace in the game.

Langford will be such a help and people have probably forgot how good he is, also doesn't have to play the number 1 big guy role anymore.

Blackiston is a very good pick up, looks like a competitor and has really good off the mark speed for a big guy.

Kondogiannis looked promising a couple of teething problems but very minor, overall did some very nice things and a versatile size.

wasnt watching very closely but the guys that stood out for me were:

parish/duz/caldwell midfield combo. We actually have a pretty decent group of midfielders when they are actually fit

-farrow and HEA should definitely join Sharp as early season debuts (if not rd 1)

-nguyen is a tough little bastard, nice to have a number of guys who's tackles stick now

- Caddy continuing on from last year, very excited to see his progress

- not sure Ive seen him mentioned but clarke was as reliable as always. I hope they entrust one wing spot to him instead of prior. No knock on prior, he is good depth, but a clarke/fiorini/Duursma wing group is very promising.

Of the rookies, Farrow is the biggest round 1 lock.
Not sure. I think there is only one spot between him and Johnson, who also did some good stuff. Especially in the first half. I'd love to be able to play both of them, but I don't think Brad will.

I am assuming Nguyen is a lock. So McGrath, Redman, Nguyen and one attacking option of Farrow or Johnson. Kondo, SEH miss out and Roberts, Prior & Clarke up the ground.
