should eagles be talking to Ryley sanders? Sanders would fill a massive whole in our midfield, with his work rate and the ability to accumulate. Eagles should be able to get him with a late first, bulldogs should be willing to trade due to needing picks for Zac butters.

2026 offseason
  • split first
  • late first the Ryley Sanders
  • 2026 and 2027 second round picks for Jed Walter

2027 offseason
- 2028 and 2029 first for Chad warner

WCE midfield mix
  • Reid: ⭐ Superstar / franchise player
  • Warner: ⭐ Superstar / franchise player
  • Hewett: 💥 Impact burst midfielder
  • Sanders: 🔋 Engine + consistency
  • Duursma: 🎯 Skill + outside class
  • Allan: 🧬 Size + versatility swing piece

2027 lineup with these additions
FB Hough Edwards Starcevich
HB Ginbey young McCarthy
C S.Allen Reid Duursma
MID CDT Sanders Warner
HF Hewett Walter Murdoch
FF Watermen Shanahan Newton
INT B.allen Linsday A.reid 26 and 27 first

Get the feeling that the Bulldogs are making such a play for Z.Butters in part because they believe R.Sanders will be leaving as a free agent for Tasmania's inaugural team.

If he only agrees to a one year extension this year it would all but confirm that outcome.

agree, the only problem is convincing him

Is Sanders an accumulator though? He's played enough games but never really racked it up at the level to make me think he could average 25+ touches over a season. He also seems limited physically, not sure he has enough speed and work rate defensively.
He is playing in a team that's absolutely stacked in the midfield and not many players would get a look into that team.
I do feel that's Sanders issue, quality but he has many floors.

D Sharp who many said doesn't have the speed and extra's to his game for the inside bull who can deliver to the more dynamic outside players would be a better player than Sanders IMO.
Why pay a high price for someone who most likely is a 2nd round pick type, Sanderss??

Sure we need a high quality inside mid and a well balanced mid to finish our midfield build IMO.
Draft what we can and don't split our picks in 2026/27 for anything less than an A+ midfielder.
More inclined to use future 2027/28 picks than 2026, draft will be far too compromised with Tassie draft.

Not sure the Dogs have the currency without trading out players.
Sanders is the obvious one. It would be in his best interest to extend by one year to the end of 2027 for Tasmania to maximise his market value. Sanders would be a perfect replacement for Libba if he stays.

Dogs would also probably get a higher FA pick than they would in a trade this year. Unfortunately that won’t help the Dogs get Butters this year.

3x 1R picks, say a mid teens pick for Sanders and Bailey Dale still wouldn’t be enough for Port in my view.

I keep watching Sanders to see what he offers WC and I agree he is a Libba clone.
What currency, pick is he worth to WC in your opinion, if indeed he is the right fit?

We can do way better with our 1st this year or next than a guy with minimal hurt factor, pace and defensive transition running surely
You know our team loves trading out an early first rounder for two later firsts in order to spend one on bringing a player in via trade and picking up a WA boy in the draft....

A mate who is quite connected at the dogs, mentioned they were into Butters a few years back. Butters was a big doggies fan growing up

Perfectly fine with him sticking around. Just not as a player.

He can be co-captain with Jamieson in the WAFL at the Beagles

That way he can stick around the club and the kids but doesn't get a senior spot
