Prediction Round Seven Changes vs. Carlton

I would rest Brayshaw this week, Does not seem to be fully fit. Bring in Sharp.

Got tough stretch the next four weeks
He's a club leader who copped a corkie last week. Good luck telling him to sit on the couch this week. Resting is for blokes like Pendlebury playing for sides not in the window.

Hugh Davies could legit be the best KPD in the league not getting a game.

Think we've planned well for an upcoming Alex Pearce retirement tbh.

It's now about seeing these guys at AFL level to see if WAFL form translates.
Would prefer Pearces' replacement to be 200 cm + if possible. I know a lot of players can play above their height, but it is probably better if they don't have to.

He won't be stepping aside on Anzac round.

Thought McVee played well. Was a big game for him, 1st Derby etc
Derbies are big or WA boys when they've never played in them.
Think he is building nicely
Yeah McVee looks more comfortable each game with the plan and the backline, by the pointy end we'll be very happy

I’m quite comfortable with McVee staying in the side, I just question whether we need Worner there as well as they’re the same player effectively, could we benefit instead from picking a runner off half back like Walker or Simpson, or indeed move Young into that position.
Yeah I think Walker just adds a different capability to the backline. Worner, Chappy, Ryan, McVee very same same and for mine it's Worner (mainly because of slow play tendency and indecision).
Walker can tag, break lines. For example, against the Hawks I'd have Walker in to play on Watson..

For those that obviously missed it, Andy copped a knee early on. Even the commentators picked it up.
And, FFS he doesn't need a rest.

I don’t care how many players Carlton have injured or how badly their club is imploding, I am always worried they will pull off some bullshit against us
They will load up this week, they've not been playing their mature/best team, they'll load up with Hewett, Acres, Lord, Saad, Cottrell

Either they are broken as a club or it'll be a backs against the wall miracle type win

Pitto and McKay will be big outs for them though

Pretty sure Davies' listed height of 196cm isn't overly accurate tbh.

Wouldn't be surprised if he's very close to 200cm.

These days players seem to get drafted then are never measured again. Look at Davies next time he's amongst our players - he's a tall lad.

Just one change for me

Cox for Simpson

Great time to trial the solo ruck with Darcy down

I've been tempted over to the dark side this year I reckon
It's a long season. Jackson's endurance and resilience are a marvel but everyone has their breaking point. We need him 100% for the finals. I'm all for a back up ruck option.

I like it for some games but not all now

I also like the option of resting him, tbh I would've rested him in a game coming up if Darcy was fit but that'll have to wait now

I’m sure they will, I don’t doubt that, but it’s frustrating, many of us have seen this scenario playing out for a couple of seasons now with Darcy, and it isn’t going to change now.

The mistake goes back to keeping Darcy over Meek in all honesty.
I'm not exactly a fan of Darcy anymore, but honestly way back then you'd have picked Darcy over Meek? When Meek wasn't getting a game? When the chat was that Luke Jackson was coming the year after?

I would’ve yes as number 1 ruck you would still go Darcy over Meek - however my view was Jackson was always coming as a number 1, so all we needed was a reliable backup, not another number 1 on big money. Particularly a number 1 that has significant injury issues and has done most of his career.

Of course the club likely thought differently, but the way it’s turned out suggests I was right.

That is one of the worst calls I've ever seen. Brayshaw just passes 100 consecutive games, gets a massive corkie and you're calling for him to be rested for Sharp? JFC

Brayshaw ain’t going to be rested. He’s come out strong wanting to honour his brothers service to the ADF this ANZAC day. Plus I strongly doubt he would accept being told to have a rest. A corked thigh slowed him down marginally but didn’t stop him from playing.

Alex Pearce would benefit from a rest (ie managed) at some stage but he was nursed through pre-season is hitting his straps nicely and at this early part of the season doesn’t need a rest right now.

Re: Darcy - it sounds like a minor but lingering calf issue. Let him get on top of that and then have a short block of game building confidence at Peel. Until then big Cox was recruited for this exact scenario. Heaven forbid if we had to rely on ole mate Reidy.

I think if it was a do or die game we would consider going with Jackson solo.

But we would never do it atm with a long season ahead of us, we need to protect his body. Even less so against Carlton, no need to have Jackson rucking the entire game with a few 6 day breaks coming up.

Also on McVee, i think people are being a little all or nothing. He has certainly put a foot wrong, almost every time hes had an oppotunity to be damaging by foot hes turned it over. However hes new to the football club and clearly has all the pieces to be a brilliant footballer, and he isnt playing terribly, so keeping him in the side while he finds confidence is an easy choice.

Based on his injury history is a rest really going to benefit Moose other then alleviating the risk of injury?

I honestly do not remember single soft tissue injury he has sustained. Broken legs, ankles, arms, hot spots etc etc but i don't recall a hammy or calf. Most of those injuries are "impact" injuries so i'm not sure the workload of a full season is necessarily the issue.

I'm just trying to imagine Davies on a Hawkins and giving him a bath like Pearce has done.

No way Brayshaw or Peace are being rested. My only maybe would be Ryan being rested but that's a big maybe.

Come to think of it I think Moose has been benched in the final quarters of the Melbourne and Richmond game (?), so you could argue they've protected his body that way. I think he'll play. I think he's big on the Anzac game, representing the club when something deeper and meaningful is interlinked with the fixture. The 23 man team helps I think lowering minutes when the game's iced and a victory is inevitable for players like that with higher injury histories. I think Switta has been tapped out a few times in this manner too.

I can't imagine too many changes, unforced.

The team really is rolling along nicely without going ballistic and blitzkrieging someone (yet!). We know Justin loves his system/structures based teams. 5 wins in a row all but guarantees not too many changes will occur whilst the team is on a 'hot streak' to borrow Ice Hockey parlance.
