Autopsy Autopsy against Cats - 15 straight

Lots of calls for McDonald to retire, but the scary thing is we haven't developed anyone to replace him.

You can say "anyone would be better", but it would still be a step back. I hate that more than anything.

TBF, I think it's obvious that Jackson Archer was the plan.

Just had horrible injury luck.

Once? Or twice? Out of 10 opportunities? What about the turnover instead of having a shot? He’s gotta be better. He’s awesome for 99% of the time. He will never be an A grader and I doubt it ever changes
Agreed, wont be A grade while he does that, but is still one of our most valuable.

Terrible, horrid and getting belted wasn't I believe an option

Clubs don't tend to make wholesale changes but you easily could.

Out Dinkers in Hardeman
Out Trembath in Whitlock/Goad
Out Powell in Wardlaw
Out Dovastan in BOABB.

Won't happen of course

This tonight wasn't good enough

Out Trembath?
Put him in the ruck ffs

Do you think North will ever beat Geelong again? Any chance this decade?
If we'd played them today at home instead of once again at Rort Stadium, and with a functioning defence we may have today. I remember thinking the same in the late 2000's, but eventually did and in finals so I'm sure it's on the cards.

Pretty disappointing really. Should have been up by 3-4 goals at 3 quarter time and instead were barely hanging in. Sloppy handballs, sloppy play.

I see it differently. We could go with them, we just have way too many &*(^%^(grrrrrr^%$!!!s that make fundamentally stupid brain dead skill errors and decisions.

All teams make mistakes granted, but we do those + absolute park level stuff as well. Cut those later ones out and it shouldve been a 50/50 game.
That’s why we were never in it.

If all our players were awesome 99% of the time, we win the flag.

He will be.
We've been saying that the last 5 years. He's not a 21 year old kid anymore, he should be one of the leaders of this midfield. FOS showed us how it's done last week when he burst through 50 and slotted it at a high pressure point in the game which is what LDU should’ve done when he had the opportunity. He's in his 2nd season. Some guys have got it, some guys don't.

What happened in 2022? Geelong in GMHBA, coming off a loss, is never going to be easy. We all knew it. I’m disappointed it blew out. However, we showed we can match them.
We showed we could get within 50 points of them - which is better than 100 points so we have made some improvement.

The idea that 'we showed we can match them' in a 50 point loss is of course complete nonsense.

I'm huge fan and I don't see it as a problem to give guys a spell, especially younger ones.

Would he get the same level of attention in the twos?

Because playing through a heightened level of attention is where improvement will come for him.

Still not sure he gets that by having a spell of being carried for a bit.

If all our players were awesome 99% of the time, we win the flag.
I played golf today. If all my shots were awesome 99% of the time I would have won. But they weren’t. And I was shit.

Dovaston is nowhere near good enough to have this kind of free pass at this stage.
Yeah he's in the Powell "yes you can see I'm chasing, but being 5m behind with no speed to close the gap it's really just for show" category. He might gain some ability with more pro training.. elsewhere. At nmfc tho, ahahaahaaaaaa

One positive I’ll take from today is for the last five or so years we’ve played one good quarter of footy and three horrible ones. Today we reversed that, barring the start of the first, we played three good quarters of footy and one horrible one.

Still a long way to go and lot of things to improve on like decision making, skills and execution, both through training and trading, but the fight and resilience shown for three quarters was impressive.

Somehow out of all the beltings I’ve witnessed at Mouthbreather stadium this felt especially painful.

In years past we just weren’t anywhere near good enough, but we were actually in this game til the final few minutes of the third quarter.

The Geelong Knobs are also the absolute worst supporters in the league, nobody even comes to close.

Let me begin by saying that I’m just as frustrated as everyone else here.

But let me also pose a question. Here’s my list of players who played tonight and players that I think are gonna be in our next good team.

Xerri YES

McKercher YES

Curtis YES

Sheezel YES

LDU YES

O’Sullivan YES

Simpkin MAYBE

Daniel NO

Parker YES

Blamires YES

Darling NO

Zuurhaar NO

Duursma YES

Larkey YES

Powell NO

Comben YES

Corr NO!

Stephens YES

Logue NO

McDonald NO

Trembath YES

Dovaston TOO EARLY

Spargo NO

That’s 8 Nos out of 23. Also note that Comben is my only YES out of our backline.

Scan the comments and I have no doubt that these are all the people you want dropped next week.

Okay, so let’s drop them. Now list me the eight ins. And then tell me how we go against Sydney next week.

These are the facts about North Melbourne football club at Round 7, 2026.
  • We are a flawed list
  • We are a deeply asymmetric list. My theory is that the list build is (1) incomplete, and (2) has purposely been done line by line, midfield, forward line and then backline. Why do you think we traded up to get Whitlock?
  • We probably rightly going to finish between 10 and 12th. This is much better than last year, but much worse than the first few weeks made us hope for.
  • Turning over eight players on our list is probably going to take about two years. Here’s our list from two years ago. We lost by almost 9 goals to Adelaide at Marvel.

  • If you wanna know what another two years does to the list, here’s our list from four years ago. We lost to Carlton by 50 points.

  • Beat in mind that when you’re seeing ‘good players on those lists, they were good players with 40/80 games less experience.
  • We gutted our list too heavily, and we’ve all lived through what that has meant for us.
  • We’re starting to come out the back end of that dark tunnel, but we’re not there yet. And the fact that our back line is so weak means that we should probably get used to these sorts of games, as depressing as they are.
The good news is, neither of those lists could compete for three quarters at the Cattery. I suppose at least we knew what we had coming with those lists. With this list, we have hope and then we lose. But if you trace a path from the four year ago list, through the two year ago list, through this list. In a couple of years, we’ll beat Geelong (as long as we can bolster the backline)

I might be wrong, I hope I’m not.

F*ck this team gives me the shits. Teases and then delivers the same old shit.

Yes our defenders are all dumb f*cks.

And Larkey shits me with his half arsed efforts

And despite all his good work Simpkin just has enough face palm moments to say wtf?

But for me it’s LDU. If I was coaching against us I would let him go. He waltzes out of the centre, can’t kick a goal, can’t hit a target. Not. Worth. The . Money.
Amen
