I would have said he was prettygood to debutants in his first couple of years - Ziebell, Cunnington, Bastinac all got in and rarely went out, even when the team was being smacked, because they came in with big wraps and were learning. Scott got more risk averse as the team got better and the stakes got higher, which is understandable, and may yet also happen with Noble. Even now when he has more older players available the balance has shifted and Lazzarro and Powell can wait in the wings.

Funny how the coaching honeymoon period now is the time supporters are cool with being pretty young and not very good.

I think powell will be back in as soon as he's ready, it's not as if he's been stuck in the VFL. Something to consider when comparing this period to the early Scott days is that getting sent to the VFL was a bit of a crapshoot, you could end up at one of two teams with their own coaching staff, gameplan etc that wouldn't necessarily be in lockstep with the club. Far cry from having Patch Adams there implementing the AFL gameplan at VFL level and getting young guys directly ready to play seniors. Looking back on it, it shouldn't be too surprising that guys like Will Phillips and Bailey Scott can come in and out of the VFL and not look horribly lost for at least a couple of quarters at a time, since they're still in the same system learning the same kind of footy.

He created opportunities for others with his pressure, that's more valuable than cheap possessions.

Playing his role well, which is why he's in the side. He's also only 19, easy to forget when he looks about 28.

Only issue I had was when he tried to kick it off the ground - you’re a small and it’s your job to pick those up.
other than that he did his job with good pressure
In the rain with no defender in the goal square but one on his tail... I can kinda see what he was thinking, but I agree with you.

He brings pressure that is elite and goes from contest to contest to contest until he just can’t and that’s a huge underrated influence on just winning the contested ball game in general. It gives other players more of a chance to gather and extract it out of the packs.

One thing you can’t say about Mahony is he doesn’t get involved. He’s just about everywhere he can get his nose into when it comes to the coal face game.

He's given the difficult and thankless job of keeping the ball alive in our front half which is absolutely crucial against the Eagles since you have to run the ball into 50 against them or risk McGovern and Barass chopping it off. Every week he completes the brief and to top it off he's one of the better kicks and decision makers of the AFL's pressure forward guild, shits all over someone like Jake Aarts and 100 times the footballer Jason Castagna will ever be.

Noble really rates what he brings to the team and so do most of us BUT there is a couple of pickles that can’t see this or don’t want too.
Oh its absolutely "dont want to". Because they (Zeibull specifically) are now emotionally invested in seeing him dropped because they want so badly to type told ya so. No actual analysis of his game.

An absolute workhorse. He goes and goes and goes.

This sums up one of the 2 big assets he has:

1) He doesn't just apply repeat efforts - he does it almost instantaneously. He realises an error such as being sidestepped and immediately follows up. He's not trying to make up for a miss either - his modus operandi is to apply continual pressure to any contest he's near until it's to our advantage

2) His in close skills are very effective. Handballs, short bullet kicks (like to Zurhaar last night) and as others have mentioned - via taps and knock-ons

If he can add some stronger marking to his game (think Boomer, Bell) he could add an outside or deeper offensive forward role when needed if/when the team's ability to apply pressure across the ground improves.
