Did enjoy his big mark, that was the Hogan we saw in his first couple of years, getting a run up and launching at the ball. Want to see more of that next year.

Has there been a player who had a worse year than Jesse?
You get guys who do ACLs but in terms of repeat incidents in a season it would be hard to top

Losing your dad and having cancer probably makes an ACL seem like nothing, and that's without the broken collarbone, smoking witch hunt, and soft 2 game suspension

The smoking thing. Biggest over blown nothing story of the year when half the journos covering it were having a dart while typing

That's what I'm saying, it was way over the top and it was a terrible thing for Jesse to have to deal with whilst at home visiting his dad. Not ideal

Oh I agree. It's more that he's played more games than that type of player this season, but the severity and diversity of what's happened to Hoges tops any single incident that could occur.

Just watching jjk towel up brissy. There's a massive issue either with hogan, or how he is used.

Defence has changed, and there are constantly 1-3 extra defenders flooding back - killing hogans chances of goal square contested marks. Lately he has been great getting a spill to our smalls, but really, we need him kicking goals.

Imo he needs to get on his bike and lead jjk style because on the lead his hands will be too strong. We have seen him up on the HF line getting plenty of ball.

At this stage, tmac is better at pack contested marking - and that's a big worry.

Agree but it's not a worry that TMac looks more dangerous in the goal square. Hogan is better used as a CHF going forward anyways so TMac in the goalsquare, Jesse playing the Riwewoldt role.

Hogan is still 22. Eight years younger than JJK, seven younger than Jack, three younger than Brown, a year younger than Joey D but with 2/4 seasons essentially wiped by injury. A pre-season will sort out a lot of these issues. TMac being such a good forward is just a pleasant surprise that our coaches are struggling with, a bit.

Exactly! Imagine if he was used/worked in a more efficient way. Would be scary.

Imagine how good he would be if our coaches actually put him to use

I don't think TMac being a better pack mark is a worry - he's three years older than Hogan and has always been a great mark.

Word around is if he gets through contact training on Wednesday he is 50/50 of lining up on sunday.

Amazing effort if he can get back so quickly

Surely we've learnt our lesson on rushing guys back early from injury (Hoges included). We shouldn't need him vs Brisbane so let him get 100% before bringing him back in.

Just quietly, his next game will be his 50th. It'd be good if he could get up for the Collingwood game in R23 so he has a nice big crowd to cheer him on in what has been a tough year for him, but also to avoid having his 50th clash with a final and there being too big of a deal made of it

VFL please
agreed, he needs to curbstomp some VFL pleb and get his confidence back before senior footy, and we can't afford to play him back into form in the seniors at this time of year.

There will be a collective facepalm from the supporter base if he comes straight back in this week. If we win by a lot this week and Weideman performs well I'd even be tempted to give Hogan two weeks in the VFL.

Riewoldt is a brilliant field kick though and I haven't seen enough of Hogan to think he has those attributes, at least yet.

This is such a non-factor. A 50th game is a nothing milestone, more so if it coincides with a player's first final and indeed the club's first final in 11 years. Would not rate a mention on the banner.
