Obviously our coaching staff have a better player in mind to negate the oppositions best midfielders influence and get 20 efficient disposals at the same time.
Caldwell i guess.
Let’s say we pickup Sharp (if we can’t do a deal with WC for pick 2 and subsequently nab Duff-Tytler). We need speed in the midfield and from what I’m reading, that player, from an elite perspective, doesn’t appear to be in this draft - happy for those with more intel to PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD correct me.

Last time we drafted someone with speed as a point of differentiation in our midfield didn’t work out (sorry Andy McGrath - who is not hopeless but not what we need now or needed then).

Fast mids suit this current game after all the rule changes. And even more so with the new rules coming in.
However there is always room for slower mids as long as they are smart ball users.

Modern day premiership sides are won by sides with a fleet of mids. Half forwards, half backs, wings, along with the centre/followers. All midfielders essentially.

I assume he can be picked in ND now

We could take with the last pick of the ND if HEA gets through or we could be taking 4 picks instead and re draft Setters later in the ND after the 2 NGA guys

Youd have to think eagles are super keen on him

Hopefully the Eagles take Will at pick two and leave CDT to slide

Good tactic 👍

We need the sizzler.

We need speed off half back, too. The thing is, I think with Setterfield and Hobbs gone, it looks like the thinking will be to go for some combo of Robey / Sharp / Cumming. Sweid will give us a burst of speed through midfield and Kako has been playing through there as well. Grlj would add value and is faster than them, but I don't think we'll prioritise that in midfield this year.
So, Robey/Sharp/Cumming, with CDT a smokescreen due to the tall forward options we already have and what we need to find out about them.

We also need speed off half back but could get it more cheaply if we target a player like OTaylor, if I'm right about targeting contested ball winning mids. I know Grlj is also categorised as being tough in the contest but my impression is he's more outside than in.

I wouldn't be unhappy with Grlj, I just don't think his type will be prioritised.

People telling me how Cox played more games than Settle the Field. In the the last 3 years. Come on man those 15 games Will played was something I’ve never seen an Essendon player do since J Watson. If I was Geelong I would be all over him. He is the same age as Andy and McClug! He’s not even that old.

Random injury mix too

Not just a series of hamstrings or 3 ops on the same knee

I swear just before this last one he had a game where he was covering the ground amazingly well, really running free

This is the only slightly painful consequence of Edwards / Jones / McMahon

I’d sooner have 2 of them and retained Setterfield.

Yeah me too. People need to understand to string 10 to 15 games like that was amazing. The best post I read in the last two weeks was that slow mids aren’t dead and they were referring to Dunkley. A lot of peeps saying they are dead. I don’t believe it. Could you imagine peek Setters alongside Smith and Holmes at the Cats? I’d like to see that.

Geelong got Worpel who is better and not always broken.

I assume us saying that we think there may be a list spot open post draft for Setters to return to the list is

1) we have some hope either Sweid or HEA will get through the ND

2) We are heavily targetting an injured player to place on LTI (H.Barker)

3) We think there is a good chance a whiff of wind might knock Cox over in the next few weeks and be placed onto LTI

Hopefully 1st, dont mind 2nd

Isnt he out for a while with a supposed foot injury ? dont see the obsession with trying to get another injury prone player back on the list when we are finally getting past them. Im all for a veteran, a leader, but someone who plays as little as Will does surely needs to move on
what do you think get Noah Hibbins Hargreaves down to train with list spot open.

and closesy from cats

or just redraft Setterfield. and rely on Inness to fix foot.

Setterfield returns.

Probably the right move, certainly the expected one, but I would have liked to see a more open competition with state league players to see if we could find another rough diamond.
