First, no one really knows Liam's reasons as he chooses not to speak about it. That is his right and entitlement. Second, without getting conspiracy theory-ish, no one definitively knows what the long term impact of the vaccines might be - it's just believed that it is less problematic than the present. Third, how can you question a person's decision NOT to be jabbed after what happened at Essendon? Different circumstances, I know, but the commentary really gets my goat from Tim 'Essendon Cheerleader' Watson.

How ironic that Tim Watson does not respect Liam's right to make a choice and refuse a jab. If his footy club had some players with backbone who questioned the status quo, they would not have had the drugs crisis. I can't believe he made that comment. Whether you agree or disagree with the reasons, Liam is entitled to his choice. There is something to admire about his decision to not embrace the global view. People will disagree with that and that is fine. I'm not making an anti-vaccine stance and I believe in the need to get vaccinated. I also respect the right of others to not do it. Tim has no appreciation of irony and no introspection to realise the stupidity of his comments...

Essendon situation and a Covid vaccine are vastly different propositions.
 
Agree with reasonings or not, good on you for sticking fat to your position, Liam and I can certainly respect your willpower to be steadfast in this age of mob mentality and relentless media buffoons.

More than anything though, I respect what you were able to do as a footballer and completely turning your career around. A little sad it ends a bit prematurely, but it is what it is.

All the best in retirement Liam, you've been an absolute gun in my eyes.

Strangely enough the list says "who does carlton have in stock after Liam Jones- Liam Jones , Jacob Weitering, Caleb Marchbank, Lachie Plowman, Brodie Kemp, Mitch McGovern and Oscar McDonald ".

Be a fair effort to replace the retired Liam Jones with Liam Jones.

Although I'm not impressed with Jones and other Anti Vaxxers decisions in life, for the community as a whole...

Liam Jones is a great bloke and an important Carlton Football Club past player, that has given us a lot to cheer about and he deserves respect...

The decision has been made, wish Jones all the best, time to move on and focus on the future...
A true positive, is that it gives someone like Young, McGovern, Marchbank or McDonald an opportunity to step up
take the spot and cement a spot in the best 22...

We will still be ok next year, it's a team game

Would the AFL be doing EXACTLY the same thing if Matt Rowell refused the vax and refused to explain?

Ah, yep that is doses. Bloomberg showing an estimated 3.4b people fully vaxed. It is a tougher data point to nail than overall doses. Is usually always just given as a percentage in most countries' reporting frameworks.

I'm not deranged but it's fair to say you (and a few others) struggle to follow a thread that exceeds 30 words...I was merely responding to Arrow re. AFL compensation for the loss of Jones. I was never suggesting the AFL would exempt Matt Rowell from the vaccine, but whether the AFL would suddenly assist GC to cover the loss of Rowell.

I hope this has cleared it up...more hopeful than certain

No, your deranged if you're spending your time whinging about the Suns. Why would you spend even a second worry about them? Even if they got extra draft picks they'd probably just stuff it up anyway.

Jones retired. Hopefully the AFL will let us take an extra pick in the draft. That's the end of it.
 
Really surprised that Jones retired, I just assumed he would end up getting the jab or waiting for the Novavax or whatever it’s called, I’m still qui intrigued by the situation and how Liam came to this decision, im surprised Liam didn’t accept or push to be placed on the inactive list, take the small amount of money, stay in the list and hope the AFLs position/Victoria’s position changes, in this instance we would still have replaced him in the list.

I have no ill feeling towards Jones, I don’t understand the decision as so many work places will require you to have the jab, but that’s up to him, just surprised he chose to retire.

I’ve stayed off BF for a bit because some have lost their head a bit over this. I also didn’t want to be chastised over my grammar, punctuation or to lose my own head.

it’s sad that Liam has been effectively forced into retirement. I loved the fact he was able to reinvent himself as a backman, it was a truly great story. Yes, he sometimes lost his awareness on the field and it cost us, but so does everyone. If this had happened to another team, we wouldn’t be eating rocks over it. But I think we do deserve compensation as it is a League rule that has bought this on.

I think we should get access to a mature age State Leaguer as a direct replacement. It has a two fold effect - it gives a recycled player a second chance and the process doesn’t completely or adversely affect our club.

Good luck Liam - I don’t agree with your stance, but it’s a significant life choice you’ve made and I’ll doff my cap to you for the courage to stand up for your decisions.

My farther in law just got told he can’t come to his grand daughters( not my child) birthday party because he is not Vaxed… Horrible conversation and he pushed back hard. My sister in law is distraught about it but she wants to protect him. The last thing said to him was, you have 17 days to get your first jab, it’s your choice!

why isnt it his choice? so she is telling him not to live his life and see his family....makes sense :rolleyes: 🤦‍♂️

That makes sense, for those who love for their families and would give a kidney to save one of them it probably doesn’t make sense…

But yes, it is his choice…

No winners in this argument unfortunately…
