And people were upset because we were trying to outsmart ourselves because of previous ‘vanilla’ selections or that we only wanted him for his family name. BLOKE IS A DEADSET LEGEND.

I'll admit that I was a critic of his selection at the time as I wanted us to take Burton.
Happy to admit that I was wrong, even though Burton is still a very good player
I'm still not convinced that the club thought Rioli would be as good as he turned out to be though as we wouldn't have risked bidding on Kennedy & Hipwood if we were to risk losing him
Either way, it turned out brilliantly, so I'll never be so critical of a pick again

Im the same i wanted Ryan Burton a long way out from the draft.

I think both have turned out to be good picks but at this stage i still prefer Burton because i think he is a true utility and im still not sure if Daniel will become a proficient mid.
Thats not a knock on Daniel he is brilliant in his role as a sml fwd.

Our forward pressure wouldn't be what it is right now if it wasnt for Rioli.


he is our leader in that department, and given that was a cornerstone to getting a flag, give me Rioli every day of the week!


I don't think we need him to become a gun mid. if it happens, it happens.

Have started to wonder if Dan's total commitment to pressure acts could be wound back a bit to release more of his attacking flair. Could be risky business given the success of our commitment to pressure acts, but I've noticed that when he gets the opportunity to be creative, s**t happens.

Daniel Rioli kicked 4 goals at a time where we were struggling to get over GWS to put us into the Grand Final and we have a premiership but you still prefer Burton.

Lol at posters who clearly cant see beyond our own players, yep every other clubs players are s**t. Sort of makes having a decent discussion about oppo players or comparing ours against oppo players pointless.
One reason why i dont have any thing else to say on the matter except to reiterate
At this point in time and i emphasise at this point in time i prefer Burton because hes shown himself to be a true utility where as im not sure if Daniel is anything more than a sml fwd.If he becomes a very good mid that opinion would probably change.
Both look like they will become very good players.

Lol he kicked 4 goals once in a final didnt that hopkins fella kick 5 in a granny once. He's managed to kick more than two goals a game on just 3 occasions and goes at less than one goal a game bit of work to do offensively id say.

He had just 8 disposals and didnt kick a goal against Geelong in a qualifying final does that mean hes a poor player. Of course it doesnt.
Far better to look at his overall offensive body of work rather than focusing on one game.

Anyway rant away and do your worst ive said my bit and have nothing more to add.
