Peter Dean and Waite rated equally ?
Braddles and Stevo rated equally ?
Macca only 0.5 better than Thornton ?
Ang only 0.5 better than Bower ?
Campo only 0.5 better than Grigg ?
Kouta only 0.5 better than Walks ?
Gibbs rated higher than the Mad Dog ?


The numbers are much more in favour of the 95 side than you've got them, IMO.

I tried to do it by rating the players during the '95 year and not by potential or career span, otherwise someone like Kouta would be 10 for sure. Likewise with current team players who i graded based on this year and tried to not be bias and let potential interfere!

I'm rating the Current side more on potential than current form, more of a where we will be mid next year thing. I rate our kids pretty highly. If I did it souly on the present, Scores would be much much lower, also hard to consider injuries and the improvement rate.

I think he has as well. Our 1995 team would be about 50% better than the current team we have on the park. One way of measuring that, is how many current day players could get a game in that 1995 team. I'd say one, maybe two.

Yeah - great effort Bats....nice to reminisce how good the 95 squad was. I do think however with a few young kids stepping up and some smart recruiting over the next 2 years we aren't far away form our next dynasty.

i'd of had ratts at a 10.0 in 95. he won our best and fairest in a dam good side, deserves the 10. plus i'd have had all of our backline at 8.5/9.5, just and outstanding team with some outstanding individuals.

plus its really tough to compare them with the current side, team 95' hit its peak that year and team 08' is learning the ropes, and has a bright future ahead of it. can't wait until it all clicks into place, i'm pretty sure we will see some pretty special football.

Harry Madden IMO should nearly be a 10, he looked awkward and gangly, but was very effective with our mids, gave them first use every time. Also played over 300 games and was a good leader. Which is the one main difference we have between todays team and '95's team.

I read SOS's autobiography and he went on about how many players could have been captain in that side (from memory I think he said 13 players), and how disciplined they were. You look at the team and pick the captains or potential captains; Sticks, Braddles, SOS, Madden, Dean, Sexton, Williams, Brown, Ratten, Rice, Spalding, McKay and Hogg. These guys were professionals and on a mission, I think they could have coached themselves. I only hope some of the current list can perform with their discipline and will to win as they did.

i would put Peter Dean as a 9.5 and Waite a 7, that's how good Dean was.
Kouta wasn't a 9.5 yet in 95, he was about 8.
Glenn Manton should be 3.5, he didn't do much that year.
If Ratten was a 8.5 in that team, there's no way Scotland is also an 8.5 in our current team.

it's been raised before, but as far as teams go, the 1995 team is only surpassed by the 2000 essendon team (just). you have to go back to the hawthorn / essendon / carlton in the 80's for fairer comparisons.

the 95 team was awesome, as much improved as you are, why are you even comparing them?
