okay is the right word. he's workman like and runs straight. no taranto tho and we probably paid overs for him, but it's the way things go these days.
Not too sure we paid overs for him

we gave up next years 1st rounder (#15-#18) for an established big inside mid thats a known quality and a positional need
any pick outside #10 is probably less than 50% chance to play 50 games

I see a lot of buyers remorse in this thread …. We’ll take him back …. We’re down 3 mids after the ******* crows game

I actually think he's a steal. Inside mids always go under rated because of the nature of their desposals. Its only inside mids that break out of packs that gets the accolades. Hopper strikes me as a player that makes others around him better. The fact that we won the clearances when we never win the clearances, demonstrates his impact on our team. I think next week, on a smaller ground, he will shine. This thread will all be about how he is much better than people feared last week etc etc

I believe GWS is going to have a strong season this year. I think finals is a given and they will surprize many with their new game plan that Kingsley has implemented and that will allow the stars in your team to shine. You may be down 3 mids but you've still got plenty of depth in that area. I didn't see the game - is T Green still playing? If he is, you'll be fine. He's in for a big season this year. I was hoping we could get him down at Tigerland but we can't be greedy now can we?! :p

Mate, Tom green was huge today

Solid debut I thought, both he and Taranto added a lot of bite and grunt. It's one thing to learn a club's system over a pre-season, then a whole other proposition altogether to go out and execute all you've learned on game day under match conditions.

Hop did his bread and butter, on-ball stuff quite well, particularly defensively, IMO. Where he let himself down on occasion it was often hesitation about where and how he was expected to direct the ball, or just the kind of sloppy execution you expect first up from a bloke who got zero continuity in his footy last year.

Besides his individual game, like Dimma has said a few times now, the beginning of this year for us will no doubt get quite frustrating at times while we're trying to get everyone working in sync, but we're determined to become a power clearance side and add that to everything else we do so well, so the coaching staff are thinking we're willing to cop a little short term pain for the long term gain.

If you get 70 inside 50 entries that tells me your midfield/Backline are doing their jobs

The foward line was a mess and just didnt function well , Main reason was we had no space with 18 Carlton players living there

teague needs to work this out and get it sorted

Problem is Balta should have kicked six goals outside of the 50. Why where our players not looking for him??

we are a different team, when we go forward the first question always is where is Balta??

even if we kick back so Balta kicks a 75 metre bomb

Only some dickheads with buyers remorse. Most of us realise he’s had a difficult 12 months and will need some time to gel and get fit. :D while we appreciate the offer, I’m sure most of us would rather keep him. :D

On a more serious note, I do hope you guys can find some more inside mids ASAP, it’s unfortunately looking pretty bare in there. :( don’t screw up your salary cap this time!

Sure he wasn't as damaging as some hoped but Cripps wasn't able to just brush him aside like he did to Edwards, Baker and Bolton last yearn
Yep. Cripps looked like he was playing against school boys in r1 last year. Our midfield will only get better as the year goes on.

As the year wears on, the game will start to come to Hopper a bit.
He reminds me a little bit of Caddy in the way that he is built. Just a more mobile version.
As we move in to the colder months, the game will inevitably start to slow down which is when Hopper will show his worth.

I'm not worried in the slightest.

I have absolutely NO DOUBT that Hopper will be a great asset for Richmond football club and cant understand why anybody would even doubt this

There would be 17 other clubs that would love to have him at their club and we are lucky enough to have secured his services
Great size and is a proven ball winner of great character in his prime for the next 6-7 years atleast
He is coming off an injury interrupted season similar to Prestia & Lynch and adapting to a new game plan around team mates that he has not played with

By the end of the year this thread and the doubts will look ridiculous

watched a bit of the replay. both hopper and taranto put a lot of work into the big Carlton bodies at clearances. some were close to WWE wrestling. was a big part of the reason we won the clearances. be interesting when we play vs teams with smaller midfielders where we maybe able to monster them. give them some time together with our group and they will both be important clogs in how many games we win this year

I think it's a bit much to make a judgement after one AFL game with our team. I will give them at least a dozen games before judging whether we paid overs for them and even then that's pretty early.

We also actually have no idea what we paid.

It’s pick 34 (Toby McMullin) and an unknown first round pick this year, thats likely anywhere from 10-22 depending on compo and academies/father sons.

Not many smaller or younger on-ball brigades than Adelaide's, will be an interesting test of our new power to bully capacity to outbody them at the stoppages. ;)

In return for pick #34 we got back 2 picks #49+#55 which ended up being Kaleb Smith & Steely Green but all picks after pick #30 were pretty much the same and who knows we may have selected Smith with that pick anyway

So basically Hopper for our 2023 1st rounder

I love these justifications HAHAHAH. just so ridiculous. whatever helps you sleep at night. Bro, reality is, he lacks a burst of speed. he'll find the footy going forward and if its enough to win us a premiership then the trade was worth it.

played a truckload of games with gws, so there's a record of performance. look at the respective playing records of taranto and hopper and you'll understand why g.w.s was much keener to keep taranto than hopper. he's a plus but not a gun.
