Lot of posts at the start of this thread that probably sum BigFooty up... people getting way too excited, dynasty mentioned, just what we've been missing etc etc. Fleecing this and that. Makes for funny reading! Patience is a virtue!
Patience is a virtue but some of us have less time left on this planet than others. Just sayin 😉

Yze confirming in his presser that the 5 day break following the North game is the reason he is being managed. He was even explicitly asked if it is a question of form and Yze responded by saying "He played well on the weekend."

Someone mentioned either in here or the preview thread, it will be Hopper this week and then they'll rest Prestia against Melbourne with the 5 day break. That seems to be the main motivation for the change, while I can appreciate the coach can't exactly publicly say he's been sh!t and we are dropping him.

First 2 questions of the presser, so easy enough to give it a listen to.

We’re managing a 29-year old who’s played five games this year. This is not normal.
I'll take it as a positive that we are 'resting our older guys' ... meaning he's at an age where he's almost done ;)

Prestia next week, so let's hope McAuliffe plays in the middle this week and next, and plays well enough for Yze to reassess. No injuries might force the hand as well as the season goes.

A 29 year old in his prime 5 weeks into the season needs to be managed, did ouzo flog them in the preseason?

Yze is so ****ing soft.

We are 0-5 with a percentage of 56.5%. None of these blokes on $700K+ a week should need a week off for a rest.

Laughable. We are an embarrassment when we do this.

Drop Hopper and say exactly why. We all see why he should be not in the team. And he needed to be in VFL this week - not having a rest.

Patrick Dangerfield is 35 and never has weeks off - especially 5 weeks into a season.

I remember this club dropping Knights & Richo into the reserves due to standards. Hopper is not above that.

I'd be happy if the club sacked Yze right now. Pay him out. This shit has to stop.

Anyone watching the way he shuffles around can see his knees are ****ed. Resting him after five games is an acknowledgement that his body is not up to the rigors of AFL.

He’s cooked, done, finished, finito. Get rid of him.

If Adem plans to bring him back in for Dees game Hopper IS actually being managed and thus not omitted/dropped. That is the worrying bit for me. Not that he's hiding behind the label 'managed', more that he's not actually dropping him.

I swear some of you expect Yze to come out and say in a press conference, "Yeah, Hopper is garbage, I'm only playing him because of his contract and what we traded to get him here"
You clowns need to remember that Yze is Hopper's boss, this is a workplace and they need to treat their staff with respect. Yes, it is a performance based industry, but that doesn't mean they won't try to take care of him as that is what builds a good culture. Other players won't stick around very long if they see the club mistreating a player.

No one wants that. You’re exaggerating. What people do want is simple acknowledgement that he is not playing well and up to standard. And they want him to be like any other layer whom plays poorly week after week to lose his spot and be made to earn it.
Sadly we have a coach who can’t be honest and has to sugar coat stuff when it comes to his favourites.

He didnt need to all but guarantee him to return next week though? Or say that hes been playing well when he very clearly hasn't.

Not sure it'd be seen as mistreating a player by saying something like 'he hasn't been at his best, so were going to give him a rest this week and make an assessment whether he comes straight back in V the dees later next week'

In fact if a player took that as being mistreated they have no place on an AFL list in the first place.

Plenty of coaches have said player X needs to work on a few things and get back to their best.....

Dangerfield doesn't have weeks 'managed' because he's injured all the time. Flopping can be dangerous it seems. He misses months every year with injury - he probably should be managed. It's a silly comparison though because Danger is a burst, power athlete and Hopper is a "how to say plodder in atheletic terms"... He should have been dropped prior to this game. We need midfield availability soon from others.

Just FYI, players rested (managed) this year (based on very basic research):

Lochy Dovaston (1st yr)
Mark O'Connor (29 yrs old)
Tex Walker (old)
Jack Scrimshaw
Lachie Jacques
Mark Blicavs (old)
Jack Henry (not old)
Jack Martin (soft tissue is old ;))
Jamie Cripps
Toby Murray (wtf is he?)
Brad Close (Rnd 1)
Brent Daniels
Dane Rampe
Jaxon Prior
Xavier Lindsay
Jacob Hopper

Of course I was exaggerating, it's hyperbole. How would you feel if your boss came out and told everyone that you were terrible at your job. There are some things that can just stay internal. We also have no idea what 1) may be going on in Hopper's life or 2) what injuries he may be pushing through to try and be a mature body in the side.
