Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

Sam Reid
DOB: 27 December 1991
DEBUT: 2010
DRAFT: #38, 2009 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Wangaratta Rovers (Vic)/Murray U18

If reid gets paid say $800k then does that give us a first rd pick next to our first rd pick?

I just had a quick look and going by the 2015 free agency model.

If his contract offer puts him in the top 5% salary of players over the age of 25 its a pick straight after our first.

If the offer puts him in the top 10% salary of players over the age of 25 its an end of first round selection.

Im pretty sure the numbers being thrown around put him in one of these 2 brackets. (Freo received a second rd pick for chris mayne last year who got a 500k at 4 years deal.)

After we win the grand final it will be the same pick anyway

Nothing would surprise me with this administration. We never did get a proper explanation for the last one!

I can't believe you didn't take extensive "You can't have everyone" reasoning forwarded by the bastion of integrity and brother of Banjo, sports executive Gil McLachlan.

Footy Classified tonight ...

Claims that the recruitment group at Collingwood were very unhappy with the dropping of Ben Reid on the weekend
The claim is that Ben Reid has been the main force in attracting his brother Sam to Collingwood....and now that Collingwood dropped Ben, it throws the negotiations into a curly

Lol that is the funniest thing that I have read all year.

Take a bunch of assumptions, wrap them all up and hey presto you have a story to talk about.

I want him to stay. When we were piling up the losses and it looked like a tied to 1st round might be a top 5 pick I was wavering and possibly on the wagon but now when a tied to 1st round is probably late 1st round then the draft value just isn't there.

In Grundy we trust. Just leave S. Reid forward.

Correction:
Just leave Reid and Rowan forward.

I'm a fan of forward balance with what we have now. Rowan and Reid both great overhead. Buddy is buddy and is superb everywhere except in the air- then he is only human. Rowans speed wow. Throw in Papley, Hewitt and Jack and gee that looks good to trap a ball in forward 50 keep it there and wait for a chance on the ground or in the air.

The only risk that won't work is horse getting the yips about momentum swings and sending reid and/ or Rowan back to defence.

I should add that I disagree with what horse said about why all the poor shooting the last few weeks. He said was a product of the location of shots. Rather I believe it is a product of our style of play. We trap the ball forward 50 for long periods of time and that CAUSES congestion and hasty snaps at goal. When we do get a mark set shot we already have the yips from missing too many hasty snaps which builds pressure causing misdirected shooting. Strategy remains good. We simply need better luck to succeed with a few early snaps and it will feed calmness

I have no problems with Horse sending Reid or Rohan to the back line but preferably only with < 5 minutes to go in a quarter

Handy backup for grundy, rampe & melican if lynch is to big this weekend
Yes good observation. If we shut Lynch down, we beat the Suns.

I don't mind the way Sam Reid gets switched down back at the tail end of quarters, or any time the opposition gets sustained forward momentum. I think it's an intelligent use by the coaches, and I reckon our back six appreciates the chop out.

I also agree with those who say that Franklin at CHF and Reid at FF is our best forward structure.

I hope there are clauses regarding him actually getting on the park for a significant part of those 4 years otherwise it's a risky prospect.

why would a free agent key forward with interest from many other clubs sign an incentive based team friendly deal? If he signs, the money will be guaranteed.
