Well the trades are all done now it time to see how the side will look for next season assuming none of the kids drafted will get a game in round one.

FF> Welsh Hentschel Bode

HF> Burton Perrie Watts

C> Edwards Ricciuto Goodwin

FB> Reilly McGregor Hart

FB> Bassett Rutten Johncock

Ruck> Clark McLeod Thompson

Interchange> Biglands Ladhams Begley Jericho

Discuss or post your own team as everyone has their own opinion on how the side should line up and who should or should not get a game

Players who were unlucky to miss selection

Torney, Massie, Smith* ( we know what N Bock can do B/A)

not sure about Perrie his SANFL final series was good week one i think rutten (?) playe don in him in the elim final and played liked cornes did in the showdown . Week 2 he was played more closely played like he normally does
he may delisted yet with bock

FB: Hart..........Rutten........Bassett

HB: Goodwin.....McGregor....Begley

>C: Reilly.........Riccuito......Johncock

HF: Hentschel...*M Stevens...Edwards

FF: Schuback...Welsh.........Burton

FOLL: Clarke.....Thompson...McLeod

INT: Biglands...Bode...Torney...Jericho

EME: Perrie....Doughty.....**Watts

*Obviously if Stevo doesn't pull through this pre-season then he is replaced by Perrie at CHF.

**I don't think Fergie is quite ready yet, hence an emergency but should get 8-12 games into him this year.

General comments
- I prefer Burton in the square with Welsh as both can lead and both can jump at the ball and take good grabs. IMO Burton on the HFF still has opportunity to burn the ball and we don't really want him to be taking the last kick to our FF line, plus he is more likely to be a 50-goal/year forward deeper.

- Move Stiffy up to a wing where he can use his pace or alternatively onto the ball so he can get him some valuable game time in the middle.

-Edwards, McLeod and Riccuito swapping on the ball and on the HFF.

- I've put Schuback in the FP as he looked lively when played there this season before injured. We need a genuine crumber in the forward line and Schuey provides it. Also a make or break year for him so must be given opportunities.

- Hentschel IMO is better on the flank as he can use his skills and footy smarts but can also push deep into the forward line and take some contested marks.

- Reilly to push up on to the wing this year which IMO is the position he is born to play -used as HBF this year to make it a little easier for him to pick up some touches but also teaching him the values of being defensive as well as attacking.

- Begley I like, big penetrating kick and provides good run, would be perfect on the HBF or wing but given his height and defensive ability I would push him back to HBF.

-The backline looks pretty solid and pretty much pick themselves. Goodwin to get back into it after a long lay off last year on the HBF but will no doubt be moved into the middle.

- Bench has Biglands as back up ruckman or can be pushed forward if need be. Bode gives us good legs as does Torney and Jericho. Pretty good mix on the bench and very versatile, Jericho and Biglands can play forward as can Bode and if need be Torney and Bode can be thrown into the middle whilst Torney can obviously fill in down back.

- Still looks a bloody solid team if we can stay injury free this year. M Stevens would make a huge difference but there is obvious question marks. Not really a weak link in the team but pretty solid acroos the board.

Mcleod must be getting towards the last years of his career. Good players age so quickly it aint funny anymore.

Johncock is my favourite rising star.

Also I still think Burton should play full-forward, hes got the skills, but behinds don't win footballs for you. :(

Bock's young and shows plenty of potential...am I the only one who can see it?

He looks like he has a good head on his shoulders and can take a decent mark...

Yep Gets, your in the minority wuth Bock mate. However, let's see what he does next year before we completely write him off. Mind you, his form in the finals for eagles was terrible.

Considering he did well enough to get on the field in that final after being bed ridden with nasty flu going around for the entire week

I am assuming that Mark Stevens will prove his fitness and play next year. I am picking a side I think would be the right way to go and should have some youth and experience.

Code:
_F: _ 17. Scott Welsh _ 19. Mark Stevens _ 9. Tyson Edwards
HF: _ 26. Jacob Schuback _ 22. Ian Perrie _ 37. Trent Hentschel
_C: _ 33. Brent Reilly _ 32. Mark Ricciuto _ 24. Brett Burton :(
HB: _ 18. Graham Johncock _ 16. Ken McGregor _ 36. Simon Goodwin
_B: _ 8. Nathan Bassett _ 25. Ben Rutten _ 34. Ben Hart
1R: _ 35. Rhett Biglands _ Scott Thompson _ 23. Andrew McLeod

INT: _ 4. Matthew Clarke _ 10. Matthew Bode
     _ 15. Jason Torney _ 30. Luke Jericho

EMG: _ 6. Fergus Watts _ 28. James Begley _ 39. Martin Mattner

* The likes of Schuback, Reilly and Johncock should be spending more time onball

* Burton on the wing IF AND ONLY IF he is in form ala second half of 2003, otherwise forward line or bench.

* Give Biglands first crack at #1 ruck position and use Clarke as a back up. Rest Biglands in the forward pocket when he is not rucking.

If we have a fit and in form side we don't line up too bad. I think this will be the difference between us being capable of sneaking into the 8 and hardly winning enough games to avoid priority picks.

I think Doughty and Mattner will be in the mix, probably ahead of Shuback and maybe Jericho. Coaches seem to like Bock so maybe he would be there . I agree that Watts isnt up to it yet (as with Jericho a bit as he tries rake ball in a bit rather than running straight at it and always fumbles it), but never know how he could be after a good preseason. I rekon he will push for more games (genuinely, not just because of potential) from round 8 or so.

Am i the only one who has noticed Bock cant ever kick on the run???

Like how against, uh, who was it, Collingwood or something? He kind of crumbed the ball on the run and kicked from outside, or it might've just been inside, 50 and missed? Eh. Skippy should be in that team...

on the bock & shirley front heard ron fuller on aa the other night how they played first half of the year with the eagles and how well they played and fitted etc before they went to the crows and then seemed lost when they came back (something ive noticed when crows players come back )
anyway i think stiffy18's team may be close to spot on

I still can't get over that Grand Final loss, oh the pain! I stayed there for the whole game, even the presentations and stuff when all the Centrals PEOPLE were going mad. During the game they kept yelling in my ear and swearing at me. Then I had to endure their crappy song being played about a billion times when they won and more yelling. At least I saw Skippy there, well, no, I didn't, my sister did. I didn't. Oh well. Good enough.

F Jericho, Burton, Welsh

HF Hentschel, Perrie, Johncock

C Reilly, Riccutio, Thompson

HB Edwards, McGregor, Torney

B Bassett, Rutten, Hart

R Clarke, Goodwin, McLeod

I Biglands, Schuback, Begley, M Stevens/Watts

I think the defence and midfield looks solid. I know Thompson should be in the centre, but when you have an All Australian Brownlow Medalist centreman in # 32, you start with him there.

However, I'm sure Thommo will get a run in the middle when Roo goes forward or has a rest.

Its our forward line that worries me. There are some inconsistant injury prone players there.

Its also time for the likes of Perrie and Welsh to show some leadership up front. If they can stay injury free, they should be able to assist the likes of Hentschel, Jericho and Watts.

If I recall correctly, didnt Reilly play on Acker earlier in the year? Would Brent be a chance to take over as our new tagger? I'm not interested in giving Shirley yet another run. Radar wants to play in the middle and has some experience in defence. Could be a worth a go.

I'm also not interested in Bode and Skipworth and would like to see Schuback be given a decent go early in 2005.

M Stevens/Watts - If Stevo is fit he'd be in my team. If not, Watts is the logical replacement. watts could be handy up forward or down back for us.

As for Turbo, I'd play him off the bench and have him swap with Burton up forward. I'd do this early in the year to help Stevo get through as many games as possible.

FF: Hentschel Welsh Burton

HF: Edwards Perrie/Stevens Johncock

C: Goodwin Ricciuto Mattner

HB: Reilly McGregor Begley/Doughty

FB: Bassett Rutten Hart

R: Clarke Thompson McLeod

I: Biglands Torney Perrie/Stevens Begley/Doughty

EMERG: Bode Hudson Jericho Bock

Am I the only one that thinks Hentschel would be wasted deep in the forward line??????

He is far too skilled and fotty smart to be in the pocket. I would rather him floating around the f50 than being stuck deep in the pocket. His foot skills are as good as anybody's on our list so he would be of great value delivering the ball to others.

You're not alone. I also named him on a HFF to provide the forward line with a bit of height.

FF: Edwards Burton Welsh
HF: Hentshel M.Stevens Ricciuto
C: Reilly Thomspon Johncock
HB: Torney McGreggor Goodwin
B: Basset Rutten Hart
R: Clarke Mcleod Bode

INT: Biglands Begley Mattner Ladhams

EMG: Perrie Jericho Watts

Stevens at CHF is ofcourse dependant on him actually playing next year. If he doesnt then Perrie comes straight into CHF. The makeup of myteam is by no means set. Anybody else struggle with who to leave out? i know i certainly did!

Stevens and Perrie could easily play in the same side with Stevens at FF and the Sarge at CHF, if we went with that bigger structure with 3 talls.

Went with the odd choice of Thompson in the Centre and Roo at half forward as i think this might be a real possiblity with recent comments from the Roo about spending more time up forward. Also tried to go with a younger centreline for the future.

I think, despite his size, Bodey can add some grunt to the midfield and his ability to get that hard ball out to Mcleod, Reilly, Thompson etc will be important.

Im hoping like hell Watts really comes along over the preseason, as i cant wait for him and Rowdy to become those gun forwards weve been looking for.

Went for Ladhams on the bench over Doughty (too many HBF'S anyway) because of his goal kicking ability, and his undeniable talent. Seriously he has all the tools to be a superstar, and ********es me off that he isnt even walk up start to the 22 yet.

Anyway like i said, for me this team is still subject to change. Shouldnt be so hard to pick a side that came 12th. Then again i think we are a bit better than that...

Ah true, very true.
Really happy to have him at the club ive got to say.
As much as i thought Stinger was a great player for the club, i never saw him as becoming more than a vice captain, a role that he would have done very well in, and i think Thompson definitely has more strings to his bow and could one day be an AFC captain. IMO we won in that trade long term.

Game 1 is against West Coast in Adelaide..WC side is IMO

FB Wirrupunda Glass Chick
CHB Hunter Lynch Waters
C Kerr Judd Stenglein
CHF Sampi Embley Staker
FF Gardiner McDougall Matera
RR Cox Fletcher Cousins
I/C Butler Selwood Seaby Braun

And that would mean the Crows would look like this.....

FF: Welsh M Stevens McLeod
HF: Edwards Perrie Hentschel
C: Shirley Ricciuto Burton
HB: Reilly McGregor Johncock
FB: Rutten Bassett Hart

R: Clarke Thompson Goodwin

I: Biglands Mattner/Jericho Schuback Torney

If McLeod is picked up by Wirrpunda I can see Macca scoring 5 as Wirrpunda is too lazy defensively

I think T Edwards can run as far down as the wing along his side while Shirley is tagging Judd as has been shown Shirley matches quite well on Judd.Burton I would like to see be told to run all day from HB and go no further than the forward 50m line.

Johncock would pick up Sampi and maybe swap Reilly with Torney but I would like Reilly to see how he went against Staker or maybe swap Hart and Reilly

Basset on McDougall more for experience and vice versa Rutten on Gardiner...Gardiner wont be 100% confident so if Rutts gets off to a good start his confidence is sky high... Hart and Reilly can swap if Staker gets on top

Torney can come on for Reilly onto Staker at any stage and Shirley and Goodwin could swap as well

In this day of versatile footballers you can name them in a spot but you also must be prepared to move them around to get the right fit..

Remember the Crows are playing a real side not who the best side is...I believe this side would do well against an Eagles outfit that will have Woosha deciding if he plays Stinger on Roo or Thompson and that releases McLeod Edwards Goodwin Johncock and Schuback all for a run in the middle..the clue is to run and confuse West Coasts midfield..Adelaide must be disciplined and ready.
