Up to the win against Melbourne, we have won only 8 games in the past 2 years. If we don't win anymore games this year, we get the number one and number two picks in the draft this year. And if we finish 16th at the end of this year, we will get the priority pick at the PSD and the Rookie Draft as well as the first two picks at the 2006 National Draft. I don't want us to win anymore games for the year just because of the priority picks. I believe we need them because of the AFL suspending us from the drafts in 2002 and 2003 which was absolutely outrageous. They fined us for obvious reasons (salary cap breaches), but to suspend such a powerful club like Carlton out of the drafts for 2 years is absolutely ridiculous. That is called destroying the future of (in this case) the Carlton Footy Club. To miss out on Daniel Wells and Brendon Goddard, etc like we did was for me as a Carlton man, quite simply outrageous. Plus, the AFL needs the big clubs like Carlton, Essendon and Collingwood and Richmond and Hawthorn up the top of the ladder. That way, the AFL gets huge numbers to games between these clubs - especially Carlton v Collingwood/Essendon!!!!!

What do you think????

we DONT get picks 1,2.

we won 4.5 games last year, and were currently on 3.5 now ... the cut off is under 4 wins for both years, not 8 over 2 years.

We can't afford to win another match, as that will fk up our chances at getting a Luenberger, Obrian, Jetta, Collard, Proud, type player who may slip up.

IF we dont win another game (and either does Ess): picks 2, 18, 20,36 etc
IF we do win another game: picks 2, 20, 36

Give me a win... I believe we are a chance to win 4 on the trot. I go to the footy every Melbourne game to watch us win.... not bloody lose.

Against Melbourne, singing that song was just ****ing sensational. I want to do it another couple of times this year.

Geez, can someone explain the PP situation succinctly in a new thread (because I am too lazy to do so). I will then sticky it at the top. I reckon this question gets asked once a week.

Trying to make it sound a litter better to tank are we?

Surely if we win another game and come say 15th.... how do we slip to pick 20? Surely its 18 or 19 with out second pick.

Winning culture is what is needed, Go Blues.

i know it sounds wierd, but going winless for the rest of the year would be a bigger step towards a winning culture for the future, rather than winning 3 useless games - that can do nothing for us other than:

*Cost us our PP
*Cost us Gibbs and Hansen

:) Because we won 4 1/2 games in 2005 we are not eligible for a first round priority pick. You can only win a maximum of 4 games in a season to get a first round priority pick. Under the new system you can only win a maximum of 4 games per season over two seasons to get a first round priority pick. If you win 4 games or less in a season, then you get a priority pick at the beginning of the 2nd round.

This is what Carlton and Essendon will get this year if the don't win more than 4 games. At this stage Carlton's picks look like being 2, 18,20,36,52 unless we finish on the bottom or win enough games (5 1/2) to go past Hawthorn and finish 14th :D

us finishing 14th is probably the worst thing that could happen.

  • we lose our Priority Pick
  • we lose Gibbs and Hansen - and get left with Gumbleton (still good, but id much rather the other 2)

Sort sighted people looking for immediate gratification and sacrificing the team and our long terms success in the process.

Greedy.

not true, only your view on things. no need to insult other people while making your point.

How does it cost us Gibbs AND Hansen? We would only ever have a crack at one of them, or do you think Hansen will 'slip' down to pick 18 or so?
By winning a few more games it will only cost us something between pick 17 and 20, thats one pick. I for one would prefer to see the younger guys finish the season with that winning feeling and renewed confidence for season 2007.

Exactly, winning is the most important part of players development. And who knows with trades etc we could end up with another high pick.

Pretty simple really:

Essendon - Gibbs

Hawthorn - Hansen

thats how it costs us Hansen, ordinarily I wouldn't care about an extra pick in the 17-18 range, but this year is a super draft ! its like an extra top 10 pick.

I didn't mean explain it to me!! :p

I have explained it over and over as have many others but these threads keep popping up. I didn't feel like rehashing it so cypher has put it all in a new thread which has been stickied so we can avoid all of this in future.

Well then we take Gumbleton, I can see where you are coming from, but I currently believe we have a list with more talent than our position warrants, and this comes from a lack of self belief, and knowing 'how to win' when tight games come to the crunch. We didn't crumble against the Dees and I'm hoping that this is the beginning of a turning point in the clubs culture. We have had a losing culture for too long and the more wins our team can eke out, then the greater benefit it is to the overall teams psyche. Sydney didn't have the most talented team last season, but they had a winning mentality, and thats something I'm hoping the team can strive towards.
As I said before, I can see where you are coming from however, it seems to be like robbing peter to pay paul. We win more games this season and grow in confidence as a team, or we play and lose, confidence gets even lower, and we get an extra quality young player who comes into a team that lacks morale and self belief.
I hate the current system for making us even feel like this, as we should all be supporting the team to play as well as it can, and to win.
