Were these picks acquired through trades or is pick 19 a priority pick?

What I want and expect from this year's draft.

Pick 1. Essendon. Bryce Gibbs.
Pick 2 Carlton Lachlan Hanson.
Pick 15 Collingwood
-----------------------
Pick 18. Tom Hislop or Collard/Proud
Pick 34. Zac Millar or another big bodied midfielder.

We can draft Sheldon next year.

I've got Hislop inside the top 10 now based on his form this year. Jetta is doing well also.

Gumbleton could make it into top two equations if he continues his form also.

At the moment for mine

1. Lachlan Hansen
2. Bryce Gibbs
3. Scott Gumbleton
4. James Sellar
5. Mitch Thorp
6. Joel Selwood
7. Leroy Jetta
8. Jack Riewoldt (Out with Collarbone)
9. Tom Hislop
10. Matt Leauenberger

Have a look at the Drafts and Trading board. Mojo put up some very impressive profiles over there some time ago.

From this early stage, that's how I see it happening if Essendon and Carlton have the first two picks in the draft.

In the newspaper, i have heard a lot about gibbs and how he will be a superstar. As a carlton fan, i think our midfield needs gibbs, more than our forwards or backs need Hanson/Gumbleton.

If we have the chance i think Gibbs is best suited to Carlton and we should draft him.

Thoughts?

guys, we need to think real hard this draft-do we take what we need or whatwe can? albert proud is the clasic example. by all reports, he is a similar player to bentick, who already has blackwell and to a lesser extent, smith, vying for that one spot. whilst it would be good to get some real depth in the team, dont you think it would be more beneficial for the team to draft according to their needs. we dont need more slow tough at it midfielders. i think it would be nonsensical to draft proud ahead of others in the mould that we need (ie. key backmen).

thoughts?

I encourage you all to atleast watch the Under 18 Championships before making comment on players and drafting.

Mojo certainly knows his stuff, but you can't read a profile and have an informed opinion on the matter.

In advance, yes I've seen all the players in my top 10.

Personally, after the Saints game, we need some decent key backman. I mean in the midfield, we've already got Murphy who should serve us well for a long time. Plus players like Simpson, Walker and Bentick who will be honest performers in a few years time (If not a star in walker <fingers crossed>). I mean Bryce Gibbs will probably be a star m/f, but someone like Hansen could do really well. Given that it looks like we're gonna get priorities, the question should be concentrate on KPP or recruit a mixture?

We need delivery from the midfield lace up to our forwards.

We need players who can handpass ten meters to a bloke on the run.

Good decision makers and players with SKILLS.

I know our midfield needs some speed and grunt but I believe a greater priority is the recruitment of a tall, high marking KP player who can handle either CHB or FB. If we can recruit a Jackavich or SOS like player, it will give us a chance.

Can Hansen play back or is Gumbleton or someone a better option???

Thorton does a great job for someone who concedes too many kg's and cm's each week but in reality he is BF or BP and not a key position player.

We won't be competitive until we sort this problem out.

Take the best available with the first pick.

Usually you would take best available, but I think we seriously need more midfielders/running players with good skills.

Therefore if we get 1st pick it sounds like Gibbs is the one.

I know we are short on Key position defenders at the moment, but you would hope we have Hartlett, Bower & Edwards in next few years.

do you guys think that Carlton should like play in a different comp to get their confidence back as they are struggling at the moment, maybe they should play a couple games in the VFL to get their confidence back

thoughts anyone???

a bit early to tell depends were we finish
If we finish fairly low...lets say not in the top 14 or about ten below the top four are we guaranteed a gun with this years draft :) :) :thumbsu:

Why don't you enlighten us with YOUR profiles of YOUR top 10 that you have seen play so far this season. It would be interesting to see your thoughts pre and post the Under 18 championships.

Clubs can end up going around in circles playing 'catch ups' if they ignore a 'best player' policy.

Draftees rarely turn into the players you want them to be if you have such a narrow focus anyway; a few years down the track you just end up ruing your decision not to take a particular player.

However, it is yet to be determined that Gibbs will not be the best player when we come to have our pick.

I don't have the time unfortunately, going into my second last exams.

In brief... The top 3

Lachlan Hansen: Mobile Centre Half Back who can also go forward. Is about three steps ahead of the guys he's playing on at the moment, yet remains accountable most of the time. Imagine Nick Riewoldt playing Centre Half Back with a better frame

Bryce Gibbs: Has been playing SANFL seniors for a while now and is one of the better players on his team, even at this point. He is classy with everything he does. May not be the quickest guy around but his football smarts give him time with everything he does. Don't take that to mean he's slow. Rotates through the mid-field at Glenelg but would probably be a flanker in his first couple of years at AFL level.

Scott Gumbleton: Has really stood out playing for Peel Thunder seniors this year. Presents really well at CHF and has been kicking a lot of goals from that 35-40 metres out position that Barry Hall has made popular. Mobile big man who takes a really strong grab. Hasn't really been tested in hard contests in the WAFL, because of the big grounds and the uncontested style they tend to play over there. He should be fine with the harder play and has a lot of scope to improve with his body (i.e putting on muscle.)
