where did seth say they are barely b graders? All he's said is that he doesnt think they are WFA horses and therefore wont win the cox plate, which i tend to agree with.

I can't be bothered looking but he's said it somewhere.
"Barely a B grader", "no acclelaration" "need a lap headstart against the best at WFA."

Why do you have such a problem with quotes?
Its not that hard.
You only need the " " if it's a direct copy of what was said.

The quote was "WFA B grader"...see how it works?
As for Efficient, when everyone was raving about his acceleration at the end of a VRC Derby,I simply said "he beat a whole lot of walkers".
You do have to take into account what he beat, look at the next 5 home:
Gorky Park,Teranaba.Danever,Get Square,Fire In The Night
I could run away from them.

He's a promising stayer,has a hope in a MC but WFA star,nope!

If Efficient or Zipping win the Cox Plate, you'll be right
If they dont,I'll be right
Until then, you can talk them up all you like in your Zipping MC thread but the fact remains they are both WFA maidens.

MF also having queries at 2000m.
Why do you say Miss Finland has queries at 2000m+ is this because of the Derby run?
Because if it is fair enough but she looks bigger and stronger now, should be able to handle it..

Her pedigree says she has the ability to win the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup one day.

Both Miss Finland and Makybe Diva are grandaughters of the supersire Danehill so you couldn't possibly question that bloodline - MF has speed and stamina in her blood.
You've probably noticed a few similarities in appearance.

Maybe Better backed to win $2 million in Cups double

The Brian Mayfield-Smith-trained stayer Maybe Better has been the subject of an amazing cups double bet placed with Sportingbet Australia.

A unnamed punter has made a bet of $25,000 to $2,050,000 on the five-year-old gelding at the odds of $82 to become the first horse since Ethereal in 2001 to win the historic Caulfield Cup/Melbourne Cup double.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan has confirmed the massive wager and believes with the EI virus wiping the Sydney and Japanese horses out of contention, a horse like Maybe Better is a logical contender, if there is one, to pull off the double.

“It’s important to remember that Maybe Better was the first placed Australian horse in last years Melbourne Cup,” Sullivan said.

“A bet of this magnitude has to be respected but history is definitely on our side.

“To win both races in the same season is one of the toughest things an Australian thoroughbred can do.”

Maybe Better finished an encouraging sixth, four lengths behind El Segundo, in last Saturday’s Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes and is currently at $12 to win either the Melbourne Cup or the Caulfield Cup with Sportingbet Australia.

Careful Ted,you obviously didnt know that you cant post in this thread without some mention of how well Zipping is going.
Or at least a reference to MD.

Hows that Seth :thumbsu:

No worries, still time to mention what an imprved horse Zipping is
Or how fantastic his 1st up run was
Or how he has a lot of improvement in him
Or how he could win the Cox Plate, despite not actually having ever won any WFA race.......which isnt his fault of course

Gee Zipping is an improved horse. His first-up run was fantastic and he still has plenty of improvement left in him. He might not have won at WFA, but that's not his fault and I think he could win the Cox Plate.

Yes i noticed that, you can see the Danehill in them right away.

I'd taken your advice and backed Zipping for the Melbourne Cup and Cox Plate, odds have been nearly halved since.

I was thinking whenever i've seen Zipping race against the best he's been as good if not better. That first up run against Marasco who had Beadman a case in point, never lost a yard on him and i don't think he ever left fourth gear $3.70 to place, beeaauty!

There's something about those Danehills.
Remember Zipping is a son of Danehill so with that speed/stamina bloodline and his strong dam staying pedigree there can't be any doubt.

Realistically he's the only horse in the Country with the ability to win both premier group 1's which says a lot.

That guy who plonked 25k on Maybe Better @ 80/1 to win the Cups double was donating money at massive unders.

you will find sires that are as successful as danehill, will always throw all types of qaulity horses.

There was over 250 horses nominated when this thread started.
Theres been about 7 horses mentioned in the whole thread, including MD who's been retired 2 years.

Just asking where is the info on the other 150 who are still in this race?
Thread should simply be renamed the Zipping/Efficient thread.

Looking forward to more of Starz's insight into breeding though.

Ignore them starz, you're doing a sterling job.

Nobody is making them post here and the irony is they are posting more about what they're whinging about than anyone else.

Well I put a few Melbourne cup bets on today. I won't be doing doubles this yearas I like to put them on when the noms first come out and the whole EI thing made sure that didnt happen.
I got Maybe Better at 11's, Tawqeet at 26's and a roughie - Viz Vitae at $201
Liked his run in the Balak cup, with Hayes now and with the overseas contingent not expected to be the usual numbers, I think it will be a weak cup year. He was badly injured in a race 2 springs ago but has come back nicely when most would have been retired. Tough horse. He might be the type that will need to win the Saab to get a start though.

Updates on the european contingency

Cumani over the moon about Cup bid

Luca Cumani believes Purple Moon is the "right horse" to be travelling around the world with for a tilt at the Emirates Melbourne Cup.

PurpleMoonPA_468x352.jpg

"The plan is still very much to go to the Melbourne Cup. At the moment the horse is in very good form and he is in quarantine. He is in Newmarket so he can carry on training regularly. We are planning for him to leave on September 30 and arrive on October 2 in Melbourne. We have another two horses in quarantine to help him with his training."
Purple Moon now looks very well handicapped following the exploits of Honolulu, second in the Ebor, in the St Leger last weekend. Cumani said Bauer could enter quarantine and arrive in Melbourne about 10 days after his stablemate.

Purple Moon has remained solid in the market and has tightened in a few points. He is favourite for the Melbourne Cup with most UK betting shops.

Aidan O’Brien puts up for Cup pair

Scorpion was runner-up behind Yeats in the Irish St Leger last weekend.
After riding Yeats into seventh place in last year's Cup, Kieren Fallon identified Scorpion as a horse that would be ideally suited to the Cup.
Mahler is rated at $41 with TAB Sportsbet and Eskander's BetStar, but as short as $26 with Sportingbet.
A son of Galileo, Mahler is a three-year-old by European standards and has only 50kg in the Melbourne Cup. He sits at No. 33 in the elimination order, but is assured of a start, with a dozen horses ahead of him already listed as non-starters.
Mahler, a winner over the Melbourne Cup distance, has only had seven starts, but he boasts an impressive formline.
He won the Group 3 Queen's Vase (3200m) at Royal Ascot in June, winning by 3 1/2 lengths from Veracity, who subsequently ran second in the Goodwood Cup.
Mahler set the tempo in the English St Leger and fought on strongly to finish second to Lucarno.

Trainer Aiden O'Brien looks set to send a lighter weight Scorpion as the preferred option over stablemates Yeats and Septimus who will remain in Europe. Yeats was no match last year and needed to improve 5 or more lengths. He wore down Scorpion by half a length in the Irish St Ledger last Saturday, both ran well.

Melbourne Cup hopeful Leica Falcon still in with a chance

Horses from southern New South Wales may soon be able to cross the border into Victoria despite equine flu controls.

A new protocol is being developed that would allow horses from low risk areas to cross the border.

If it is approved soon, Corowa race horse, Leica Falcon, could run in the Melbourne Cup.

But Andrew Cameron from the Victorian Department of Primary Industry says the protocol will need to be approved by state and national authorities.

"With respect to the movement of horses from infected to non infected jurisdictions, there is a protocol under development," he said.

"It may permit the movement of horses in that are sufficiently low risk."
