Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

anyone who thinks carlton would take anyone bar kruizer at no.1 is deluded
and i mean seriously deluded
we had no ruckmen at the time
or can rioli play ruck now as well?
turn it up lads

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

These threads seem to always work out the same way.

Someone has the nerve to rate a player higher than the incumbent number 1 and their fans go nuts.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

1. Kruger
2. Cotchin
3. Dangerfield ( I would have Paddy at 2 but I'm basing this on Cotchin being injury free)
4. Rioli.

Then you can throw a blanket over the next half a dozen.
5. Grimes
6. Pears
7. Morton
8. Vesprimi
9. Palmer
10. Masten
11. Ward

If you think, on form Cyril isnt number 1 by about 80000000 metres, then you dont watch football.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

You've forgotten Cale Hooker from Essendon. He's shown more than any KPP player apart from Pears and Taylor.
Has Hooker's form as a KPP been all that startling compared to Henderson?

Henderson was given a huge wrap for his game on Roughead this year.

Roughead kicked five goals against West Coast in the next round.

Hooker was used as a ruckman and a KPP this year after Hille fell over with an ACL.

I think it was Hooker who was smashed by Tippett this year.

For mine, Hooker looks a huge unco like Bradley and neither fish nor fowl.
some real bargains in that draft.

Pears, Otten, even Grimes & Rioli amongst others were all pretty good bargains. The first two were very good bargains
It's still too early to pencil in first and second round picks as a real bargain after just two seasons.

A late pick like Joseph who is a hard tagger and a midfielder who can win his own ball is arguably the best bargain in that draft.

he was played out of position by necessity. He isn't a ruckmans arseh*le. However, he is a very capable defender. He's unco like a foal is unco

no it's not. Pencils have erasers, that's the point.

Biased much? I'm just not surprised you chose a Carlton player as "best". Sure he's a good bargain too, but I'd prefer a top line KPP to a top line tagger any day of the week thanks, regardless of how low they were drafted, or which draft they came through

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

So Palmer is dropping (I assume because of his knee) but Cotchins stocks remain as high as ever?

Of course being BF everyone is going to bat for their guy (me included) but there haven't been this many partisan calls since the 1940
's in the Balkans.

To me Kruezer, Rioli & Palmer ...would be your top 3.

Krueze is a big man and hell Carlton are still suffering in that dept with him in their side let alone without him.

Tiges for mind would take Rioli - as would anyone else who was in the 2nd spot. He is a magnificent footballing talent and the Tigers need someone who is likely to play a lot of games.

WC would take Palmer - 1st year player copping the number 1 tag and still manages to win the RS? Committed too - for those of you who are not aware have a look into the prep this kid took the pre-season before being drafted ...not too many draftees are at his level (which is why I think he will come back from the knee and will overcome disposal issues).

Then it is a raffle ...Cotchin, Ottens, Masten, Dangerfield & Morton for me.

The positions on this list are at least 3 seasons away from being settled though.

Just no.
Dangerfield easily No. 2. The kid is a gun & hard at it too. Good skills & just good overall. He does what Palmer does & can kick. Also Callan Ward is being very underrated on here. The kid broke into a top four side in a midfield of Cooney, Cross, Griffen, Boyd
Dangerfield>>>>>Ward>>>>>Palmer

Morton ahead of Palmer is a joke. just face it. your young players aren't that good Melbourne

I think a lot of people are just abit confused because Palmer has been injured. Think of it this way. Palmers 1st year> Wards 2nd year> Dangerfields second year.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

Here's my prediction for who will end up being the best from the draft (not including my own club's players)

1. Dangerfield
2. Kreuzer
3. Rioli
4. Cotchin
5. Henderson
6. Palmer
7. Grimes
8. Masten
9. Pears
10. Ward
11. Otten
12. Veszpremi
13. Ebert
14. Taylor
15. Morton
16. Rance

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

It's another Case of the Overrated Rioli.

Even on exposed form Kreuzer would still go before Cyril... easily.

Monkey King, you have to stop eating green bananas, that un ripened fruit is quite obviously f**king with your brain.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

Kreuzer would go number one still. Rioli second. Our own pick is looking questionable after Myers' troubles. He'd still go top 10 I imagine and has a couple of years up his sleeve to prove himself.

Its the injury that puts me off, hence Dangerfield > Palmer.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

Dangerfield is sooo overrated, hes not that good. Pick 10-12 is just about right for him.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

He'd be miles in front of Henderson. The gap must have closed in the off season as Henderson is now a Carlton player. Strange how players get better without playing a game. ;)

You're kidding yourself.

He is a fantastic size, very quick, hard, skillful and smart.

He's the complete package, personally rate him #1 after their initial settling in period.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

Kruezer will turn out to be the best KPP draft pick from the 2000's. he's unique and will end up playing 300 games.

 Massive call. Personally I can't see him being a better KPP than Reiwoldt or Franklin.

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

This is the toughest one I've ever done. Difficult to fault any selections of others because a case can be made for any selection.

I've picked them as though the draft were redone tomorrow - so it's exposed AFL form + potential + best available, not needs based.

1. Rioli - Has the runs on the board. Great agility, speed, skill and decision making. Have seen his quick hands in close and is adding bulk to his frame. You would have to be confident he could adopt a full time role in midfield after a few more years - to me has a similar body shape and style to Gary Ablett jnr. After reading The Draft, doubts around his attitude have dissipated probably due to having a group of people and routine based around what he enjoys - football.

2. Dangerfield - Could easily be 1. Solid body and a leader. You could build a side around him. Will be one of the names of next decade.

3. Cotchin - Injuries have curtailed him but when he has been on the park you can see him breaking the lines, kicking to advantage and running, running, running. Has all the tools and the only thing stopping him from breaking into the top 2 is his body.

4. Kreuzer - The best big man available. Can be used forward in the ruck - probably with an eye to do both in the game. Versatility is a weapon to put fear into the opposition coach. I'd get him more as a forward than a ruckman.

5. Grimes - Another leader. Shown us he ahs the footskills to be used off halfback. Strong overhead.

6. Ward.

7. Otten.

8. Morton.

9. Palmer.

10. Pears.

11. McEvoy.

12. Masten.

13. Thompson.

14. Ebert.

15. Myers.

16. Walker.

17. Whitecross.

Special mentions: Grant, Mumford, Wonaemerri, Grima, Polkinghorne, Henderson, Rance. Haven't seen much of the brisbane players.

^^ Best list I've seen so far Levi. I'd have Cotchin at 2 but can understand your reasoning behind having him at 3. Top work, mate.

Yeah i tend to agree

He did only averaged 13 possesions a game this year.

Has the talent to be rated as high as some have him but i would like to see how he performs more in a midfield role (same as Rioli) before doing the same.

As an example Masten from my side went to the midfield after the mid season break and played seven games in a row getting over 20 possesions including a game high 37 before getting injured whilst Dangerfield best game possession wise was 20 vs Freo in round 3

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

#1 Kruezer - a player you just need
#2 Rioli - a player you love to watch (+ want)
#3 Dangerfield - a player to lead and inspire

Re: re do the 2007 draft now that we know what we know

Given Taylor lifted his team to a Premiership with an arguably best on ground display in the Grand Final few will make a more worthy contribution for their entire career than he has already. Brilliant that some don't have him at all. I'd say Geelong would take him first if you tossed them all back in.

Cotchin, Masten, Kreuzer, Palmer will all be better players IMO.
