Sadly, yes, they did exceptionally well. :(

Can't wait for the rookie draft now. Maybe we'll draft MORE talls. :p

Port always seem to =\

Still, I'm not unhappy with a group of talls. Now we just need them to actually turn out any good!

At least we didn't get all ruckmen/tall hybrids. And they are mostly athletic and fast so hopefully we can avoid another Sellar/Watts situation.

According to John Reid on 5AA the Crows got 4 players they ranked in the top 18 in the draft

Sounds the same as last year to me

Gah, I meant to write not unhappy in my previous post, instead of not happy. Completely changing the meaning of my post :( Edited.

You sound surprised. The Crows made it pretty clear they were going for KPPs in this draft, so the majority of their top 18 was bound to be KPPs, whereas much players selected in the first three rounds were midfielders.

I love it how everyone gets so suspicious of comments like this. Why would he lie? What would they possibly have to gain from lying about a draft order after we finish drafting the players?

Let's say that he's lying and actually they're in their top 40 instead of the top 18. What does he gain by lying?

It would infact put more pressure on his picks to come good, if he said he rated them top 40, no worries if they don't work out, its really to be expected, but top 20 players should become quality 100+ game players, if they don't then its his arse on the line.

Calling in Davis above Natanui really puts him in the pressure seat. That's an enormous call and one that wouldn't have been shared by many around the country.

Many around the country would not of seen as much as Davis as the crows did

The crows have been eyeing Davis for 2 years now, when Davis injured his shoulder this took him off the Radar however the crows were already convinced

Assuming Rendell turns out to be correct, we could be going through a period where we're setting ourselves up for a decade starting last year. Getting a bunch of players way below the price we consider them to be worth each year has to eventually add up to a better-than-average team!

Of course, it could turn out that he just overrates certain players, in which case we will end up in trouble. But I was impressed by his 07 flock. If the 08 guys turn out similar, and he follows it up with another couple of similar drafts, we could be in for an exciting time!

A lot of ifs, but you never know ;) I'm an optimist!

Because we don't have high picks (and hopefully never have them) we need recruiters who think outside of the square and have confidence to back their judgment. Rendell appears to have these qualities. Sure there are going to be misses but hopefully a few unexpected diamonds ....
