I think Yeats would have trouble with weight if he came, but i'd never write him off for one reason, the man who trains him.

Horses that win the melbourne cup have to be able to sprint, its not a traditional staying race and for that reason Yeats will never win a Melbourne Cup

septimus is my tip atm
but lets not forget weekend hussler mcdonald very confident hel run the trip cos he relaxes so good in the run.
Yeats no hes simply not a melbourne cup horses
The japs bringin some handy ones out too

The fact that the race was over 4000m is precisely the reason he cant win.

Agree. :thumbsu:

If Kibbutz has recovered from his injury, I'll be on him.
If Weekend Hussler wins the Melbourne Cup he will be the greatest horse to ever race in Australia. Truely a freak, interesting to see what weight he gets.....

Kibbutz for me too. Won the Derby in the same fashion that Efficient did 12 months earlier and we all seen what he done last year.

Get on now at the odds of 17's and load up

$17s for a horse who won a very weak Derby, is unproven against the older horses - and has been injured for the past 8-10 months..

On top of those doubts, has he came back even half as good, can he measure up - and will he run the trip out.

Anyone got any news on the Japanese invaders? Are they still coming? Reallllllly keen on Pop Rock if he makes the trip.

Heard they are very doubtful as they would have to come through quarantine in Singapore...which they basically refuse to do

Im happy to take on Kibbutz as well,$51 chance IMO.

Damn, thats unfortunate. Why would you be happy to take on Kibbutz? Looks only 3 Aussie chances in Hussler, Kibbutz and Efficient? 2 can definately stay and finish like monsters and the other if he can stay wins by panels or am i looking at it wrong? I'll be taking on Tuesday Joy and Littorio, 400-1 shots in my books! :)

Kibbutz just beat Littorio & a few other walkers & has had a problem since.
If you rate it 400/1,then what price would you mark him?

VRC Derby form is historically diabolical,Efficient the first winner since Phar Lap IIRC.
Efficient's no star but he's a high quality horse who at least ran in a Cox Plate.
Kibbutz would get lapped in a Cox Plate on his 3yo form.

Im no fan of Gai's or Tuesday Joy but at least she has WFA form.
IMO you need to be minimum competitive at WFA to win a MC nowadays.

I also heard Luca had a winner at Haydock recently which goes ok.
We're all praying for Francesca's return.

As for WH,cant imagine why you would run in a MC when the WFA opposition is so weak.

my old favourite irazu, is 80-1 in current markets!! if he can stand up this preparation, he is one of the very few australian horses, that is competitive in group races over the 2 mile!!

Well then, i won't be on Kibbutz then! Would of marked him aroun 15-1 until you bagged him!

I agree on WFA form for the cup but Tuesday Joy will never run a strong 2 miles, NEVER! (she'll win now, heh) Beadman is the only jockey who gets the best out of her and he would have to carry her over the line!

Nearly wacked ten bucks on irazu last night, went with Maybe Better @ 81-1,
Cats Fun @ 101-1, Accumulate @ 101-1, and either anamato or gallopin I forget now.

Maybe better has since come in to 51-1......must have been my ten bucks;)

A lot of those stayers run ok,they just dont win.
He reminds me of 100 slow developing Kiwis Ive seen over the years,
Im not bagging him, just doubt he could win on what Ive seen....plus he's had a setback now.

Im not that strong on the 3200m factor nowadays either.
Who would have thought Saintly would get it after struggling a few weeks before in a Metrop?
Jeune was apparently a million to one to get 2 miles
Class seems to really come to the fore over the last 15-20 yrs, just about every winner has some claims to WFA ability since Kingston Rule.
Theres not a lot of depth usually so that makes it even more obvious.

well why is the melbourne cup usually won by roughies? the only exception is makybe diva in the last couple of years.

You must have a strange definition of a roughie GF?
Since 1990 we've had:6 favourites,4 x 2nd faves & 2 x 3rd faves

No winner over $17 & 12 winners under $10 in a 24 horse field.

Last 2 have been fair odds but you can basically rule out anything over $17.
In a MC,$17 is usually 5th or 6th pick because "theres not a lot of depth"

Kibbutz won the Derby on its ear he wasn't even pushed when it got to the front quite easily. Plus the horse is a year older by the time the Cup comes around. Just hope he comes back in the same fashion.

That may be but I could have run 2nd.

Every year the derby form fails to stand up....average stayer beats a group of non stayers.
Bookies put it up $17 for the MC & the punters fall in.

You happy to take $17,Ill give you $34 right now....if you are serious?

Don't like Maybe Better, past it's best imo.
