Draft Review 2008 - Re-do the 2008 draft

So there is not 1 North player you wouldn't trade for Watson as Watson would be that better player you guys are looking for.
In your words

So I guess North have the lesser players and mediocrity in this case, unless they trade.

100% I would trade in for Watson. He is creeping into oldish territory - he may still have 2 more years at his current level - but if we are a top 4 side in 2014 I would bring him in.

Unless you are a player you are guessing what his team mates think of him and his impact on them.

How fractured were Geelong when Ablett left? Primary school thinking clinging onto players because you have an emotional attachment in them.

Give me a the better player and the flag over the lesser player and mediocrity.
But Watson is Essendon's captain - and one of the best captains in the league at that - and is easily our best player. Ablett was surrounded by star players and leaders at Geelong. Completely different situation. Also I'm not certain the difference between Watson and Ablett as a player is the difference between mediocrity and a flag. Even though no one would argue that Watson's better than Ablett, he's still one of the best players in the league.

Doesn't matter, Cameron's a good player and GWS are lucky to have him. Same goes for Rockliff. Not sure why you're clinging onto trading players just for the sake of it.

Would you trade Swallow for Cameron?

100% - I watched a lot of Carey in the 90's and know what a superstar forward can do.

Correct - our trading from 2000 - 2009 was terrible.

In 2009, you traded away Gibson; a premiership defender.
In 2010, you traded for Ben McKinley and Cameron Richardson. Are you sure you're replacing mediocrity or bringing in mediocrity?
In 2011, Will Swarowski was brought in. Has he had any impact whatsoever?
In 2012, you traded for Jordan Gysberts and traded away Richardson who you had brought in 2 years prior. Excellent decisions from the recruitment department.

In 2013, you brought in no-one and signed Dal Santo and Nahas as free agents. One's a good player and the other is a spud.

So effectively, you've brought in 1 good player in 5 years. Are you actually reading what you're posting or just dribbling away on the keyboard?

So tell me this, you say

so how is it that teams with lesser players than Lockett and Ablett Snr have won flags, you do realize it takes a lot more then 1 champion player to win a flag, and in the Ablett / Watson case it wouldn't benefit GC or Essendon as both are the heart and soul of their clubs.

Lockett and Ablett Snr both played in Grand Finals - they got close.

Watson has not even looked like it.

I know it is hypothetical but pick A or B.

A) Watson stays and becomes one of essendon's great players - another couple of Crichens and AA's. He never plays in a winning final but is a highly decorated 1 club player.

B) Trade Ablett for Watson - Ablett flicks the switch and goes onto win the norm Smith in essendons 5 goal Grand Final win over Carlton and win the race to 17.

It should have been trading and drafting from 2000-2009.

We must have done something right recently: Flag odds 2014 - Roos $13 Bris $126.

A hypothetical will achieve nothing, but a interesting situation is the Franklin / Tippett to Sydney move, lets see how many flags that nets them, after all Lockett & Roos got them 0 flags but Hall & Richards have helped them to premiership glory, so not always the champs bring home the crown.

I know but it is always polite to answer a question when asked. Or is it too hard to answer?

Solid deflection. We still accounted for you the last time we met. Premiership odds mean squat. Look at the Eagles last year and the hype was similar to what North are facing.

We got both Bastinac and Black out of Gibson leaving. This is far from a terrible trade.

As Brisbane are well aware (x5) if a player wants to leave you need to get the best deal possible. Looks like we did well.

Fair enough.

Fair enough.

Saints accounted for Fremantle last time they met. Beating us in 2013 is much to be excited about. 2014 could be another storey. Building nicely. You should jump on the bandwagon - we nearly became footy brothers in 1996.

B for sure, I love when we win flags.
See it would not matter who it was flags will always out way players.

So effectively, you're comparing a game where you were playing for finals and were still in contention against a game where Fremantle were resting half their team for finals?

Yeah you're deluded.

Time to re-focus.

1) Nic Nat
2) Beams
3) Hannebery
4) Jack Ziebell
5) Steele Sidebottom
6) David Zaharakis
7) Rory Solone
8) Tom Rockcliffe
9) Hamish Hartlett
10) Daniel Rich
11) Micahel Hurley
12) Luke Shuey
13) Jack Reddan
14) Michael Walters
15) Stephen Motlop
16) Tyrone Vickery
17) Phil Davis
18 ) Jackson Trengrove
19) Zac Clarke
20) Jack Watts

I am tipping some of the talls will start to make a move in the coming years - Vickery, Davis, Trengove and Clarke I can see finishing a lot higher. As will Motlop and Walters who had break out years - they continue the form and they could also jump up.

Great draft:thumbsu:

They offloaded Cam Pedersen though, that was a stroke of genius.
