Course not, Peter Burgoyne is a walk up start. Choco loves him. I'm sure if Peter gets injured then Krakouer could get the lose man job.

You don't think there's room for the two of them, like down at Richmond where half the team are rebounding backmen?

This might have been said before. But What are peoples thoughts about Hartlett and his injury. Will he be right for round 1 if not who will you get or will you still hold onto him.

I was questioning him making the 22 before his shoulder setback. I think port might ease him into the year a bit, hopefully he will be a great mid year downgrade target like Cotchin was last year.

How many lose men can you have? Time will tell, but i would think Peter Burgoyne would be it.

Won't Burgoyne be played as a midfielder? Wasn't he dropped after being terrible in the QB role? I seem to recall he returned late in the year in the midfield and had some success.

what do you guys think about the chances of rory sloane? i saw an article about him on afl.com.au today indicating that he is in the mix for a rd 1 guernsey.

I didn't watch the game, but the article didn't say he was played as a loose man. In fact, it said his opponent was Stokes. Obviously you can't have too many loose players in defence, but there's no reason you can't have a few key players bringing the ball off the half back line like the article suggests.

So, after reading the article more clearly, what are people's thoughts on Krakouer?

May very well become one of the few smokies this year that goes under many people's radar, although for me i still can't find any justification to select him in my side. Aside from that i'm pretty set on my overall side, bar a couple of rookies, so i can't find any room for him. If it came down to it i'd still rather Higgins fill that spot in my forward line.

If he comes out firing i shall stand corrected, although he hasn't caught my eye enough like a few others who i have already chosen to show faith in.

I notice on the rate my teams thread that they don't figure in many teams(if any)..

Someone i haven't seen mentioned too much is McPhee. Knights ruined his scores last year playing him forward, but with lucas lloyd gumbie and neagle surely he wil be at half back racking them up (like last week when he scored in the 90s). Priced at 75, averaged 89 in 07. Can he get back to 89? (and does 89 make him a keeper in the 7th backman?)

Chad, 89 would easily be a keeper. I estimated that for me, i want my final back average 83-85+

IMO, its impossible to finish with the best final 7 backs. Not many of us are starting embley, carrazzo, bowden or hodge due to either limited preseasons or other uncertainty about roles etc. Also, while these players may all be in top tear of averages, total points counts for more. Mcphee is quite durable, and an average of 80-85 could be achieved easily by him IMO.

Sloney I think is in the mix, but Petrenko will be ahead of him at this point. Petrenko is more that all rounder which were really looking for as Sloaney is good of the backline, but struggles a bit in the centre.
I cant really say this because I personally think Craigy rates Sloaney very high.
In the IAS Match he had a huge amount of TOG and was played in the midfield that whole time even though he was well under preforming.

There was an article weeks ago saying he was going to play alot more time on ball this season, but after watching a bit of the NAB, im not so sure if this will happen. Seems to be very important up forward for us, very good 1 V 1. But there hasnt been to much to judge on so far.

Monitor the rest of his games in the pre season.

I seem to recall reading something similar about Thomas and more of an on ball role prior to the start of 08 season.

thomas will provide good value.

high chance of playing all 22 games and doesnt score too poorly very often.

could be his breakout year, but it also might take another year or two for him to bulk up and avg 90 +.

I am looking closely at Daisy... Maybe out of hope but the guy can play footy and has the potential and style to increase his numbers.

Higgins, Skipworth and even Lucas etc are way ahead of him and you can't select them all. Choosing the right one/two is the main problem everyone will face.

I'd have Hentschel in front of Krak. Save 50k and more likely selection given he is looking fit.
