been told kavanagh goes out with our family friends cousins so hopefully i get some free shit through him if he gets drafted.

That really is a high risk high reward draft there fish and if the club went for it and it payed off they would look like geniuses. I'd be happy with one of Manson or Turner tbh and back in the weapon to get Kav right.

So the hun, age and afl experts all have us taking
Kav at 19. They must know something...
For essendon: Kav, Ross and Bolger, I'd take that and hope turner lasts to us in the rookie draft.
Can't see Gws not taking one ruck in the draft though.

agreed. GWS will need a young ruck but id be happy if we get those 3 players.

Don't really know much about this years draft but looking at Pick 19 from AFL.com Phantom Draft has us picking up Elliott Kavanagh and everyone talking him up as a player we should get is he even that good ?

Based on highlights from Afl.com
http://www.afl.com.au/Video/tabid/76/contentid/401638/invoke/Default.aspx

he don't really look that good to me , nothing in what he did says "PICK ME" (to be fair it was just a quick highlights)

There isn't a lot of highlights from him because he's always been injured. Has a good turn of pace (carries the ball like Judd), good disposal off both feet, and he won the clean hands test at the combine.

We're not going to get anything better at 19.

i know jimmy wants to pick a ruckman at some stage but i hope we dont waste a pick on one....

for mine i reckon anybody who picks a young ruck in the first 3 rounds are crazy...unless they are 'super' rucks like kruz, luenburger ect ect. There will always be the best 1 or 2....then the rest.

i reckon a young ruck is always a project, its going to be any amount of years before they are ready. I'm of the opinion that a rookie list ruckman is the way to go. Take a couple as rookies, one draft age kid and a mature ager and just let them develop.

putt v bellchambers is the perfect example.

I'd much rather use our 4 picks on a couple of mids, an electric crumber and Crameri.

Ok I've already stated that I'd love the Kavanagh Manson double for the first two picks. I also said that I'd like Turner for the third. I've just had a look at some of the videos of the guys that the AFL phantom draft thinks will be there at 59. So as it is such a late pick I'll say that I'll be happy with Mihocek, Paine, Marley Williams or Turner at that pick. Mr Dodoro please leave the ruck pick to the rookie. We only need someone to come in and play 2nd ruck if we have two of Hille, TBell or Ryder out injured so a spot on the main list would be a waste.

Manson is a really interesting prospect. He is very raw but his talent is undeniable. What makes it tricky for clubs is determining whether he will stay the course if he is drafted. He comes from a tiny community south east of Halls Creek and the lure of home is strong.
Jason Phelan said that in his live chat. Big question is how he will settle away from home. IMO He might get homesick and move to NT.

Nah, plenty of articles in the west that has Newman linked with WCE, also Emma Q in the guide said interested in Newman.

Nothing to do with BF posters.
Ah, fair enough.
Confident he'll get through that far?
Rookie draft, yeah. Seems we'll have to hope he's there at our first selection though.

Bellie was a PSD pick, not a rookie.
Personally, I'm a fan of not making blanket statements, ever. (except this one)

sorry, i guess that's what i meant...for a ruck project take whatever is left in the PSD ....or a rookie.

i'm not for using a live pick early in the nov draft for a project..which most young rucks are (blanket statement).

carl peterson just on the radio..wants another crack at it..has a job now and is more settled in melbourne,

worth a crack as a rookie?

we know he can play.

Absolutely

Some good players wanting another crack or last shot at AFL this year, most will be rookie picks (Fev, Davis, Medhurst, Peterson ect)

@HFF, Foj1, Ant. We need some bigger bodies through the midfield we have Hocking and Watson we arnt sure what Myers will do, but we need to have players who can aid in the help of our young gun mids who atm are slightly framed (Heppell, Melksham, Zaka (not as much, but will need protection very soon), and possibly one or two we pick up on thrusday).

Thoughts on Mat Suckling (Norwood), Kyal Horsley (Subiaco) as some inside big body players who are still quite young and could add to the group through the rookie draft if available? Im sure there are others that play VFL aswell.

I hope if we get Kavanagh we are smart about it. I hope we can put him well not in cotton wool but just develop his body and get it ready for 2013, I just hope we dont rush the kid.

On the other hand I hope pick 31 is a ready to go middy, i'll be happy if it's kerridge or ross.

FWIW I'm a big fan of rucks who already have the size (or close to it), really takes one (huge) risk out of the equation.

I agree Slattery, although, Bocky didnt exactly work out well, really must of just drafted the tallest teenager we could find and hope for the best..

I think Campbell could be a likely option, however his injury issues (only managed 6 of a possible 19 games for Bendigo this year) are a concern for me, time for us to go 'safe' with some types rather than speculative types.

no thanks, was never a dominant player at the Hawks any ways.

I think Suckling is a ripper and could very well be taken in the National Draft. A dominant inside midfielder who does lack a yard of pace but not many inside mids are genuinely quick (yes; ok, there are exceptions..)

Horsley will (well should be) taken in the main draft, he is an exceptional talent and still has plenty of time left in him.

Still a few players worth mentioning but really CBF..

Look into David Mirra (Box Hill Hawks), Caleb Shadbotl (West Perth), Aaron Sweet (WA) and you may find one or two that could be useful.

I completely agree FIS

Let him develop and not be obsessed with youth, perhaps let the kid 'bang the door down' for selection instead of us so often 'gifting' games to our rising stars.

Just for the record, should Ross be gone by pick 31, I am fairly sure we will take Kerridge as he impressed a hell of a lot of people at Bendigo in his short time there.

The AFL.com.au draft would be absolutely ideal for us, would be a safe draft, but ideal.

- Kavanagh is obviously the creme del a creme that could be anything
- Ross would be a safe bet who could come in and start on a flank and become a midfield rotation
- Bolger is arguarbly the second best ruck that even God doesnt know how Jason Phelan managed to drop him to 59.

Oh, and we are getting a fair handy player at 70 - odd too, some Crameri guy :D:D

TBH, think I am more enthusiastic about the rookie draft that the National Draft.

Yeah i would only take Suckling or Horsley probably in the PSD or rookie if they were still available. Would really love Suckling.

As for the names you mentioned Shadbolt and Sweet has pretty avg years compared to the years before when they didnt get picked up. Also Shadbolt is now having serious hamstring issues/body issues and i was a massive fan. So those two wont get picked up.

Im all for picking a few mature aged blokes with the rookie draft, guys that are 21-24 that will hit prime in 2-3 years and maybe occur at the same time as essendon. They could play a role as essendon peak between 2013-2015 i hope.

Ross, Peterson, Suckling, Campbell (unsure how old) i all like.
