sbs did a great job even though they didnt do the actual broad cast, they used the UK broad cast but the guy doing the hosting duties back in aus did a good job

but on the bright side, with a bit of assistance with google you can pick up a live stream easy enough

McGill was a ok host.

re: healy. SEN radio morning glory show replayed a healy error. when advised of said mispronunciation (and asked to explain), he said it's his accent.

everyone laughed.

i have come to this conclusion. since the influx of n00bs like slater, health and lee, we have become smarter with the immediate access to information, stats and analysis via the internet. we can cross check and form an educated viewpoint easily at the click of a mouse.

when slater et al started we perhaps swallowed all their crap, perhaps as a function of not enough information at the time.

Best thing about the SBS Ashes coverage was Rodney Hogg, he just calls a spade a spade and is always good for a laugh. A shame he doesn't do more cricket commentary but he'd probably be too outrageous and uncouth for Ch9 or the ABC.

When they do there on pitch reviews between innings is when they are at their worst.

Slater, Healy and Nicholas seem to do this "wax on. Wax off" thing with their hands as they wave it over the pitch, it's like they are trying to summon to ghost of tony Greg out of the deck.

And Healy looks like he swallowed a dog and forgot to chew

Slater has got worse the longer he has been with 9, i think it was the 2004 tour to nz when slater started as a commentator and he was actually quite good.
Same with Healy. He was never brilliant, but watching a World Series Classics game the other day on Fox from 2001/02 I noticed he was talking much less crap than he does now. Basically only spoke when he could actually add something to the call and left the rest up to Bill, Richie or Greig. Richie and Bill were actually calling most of the play.

The tipping point I think was when they started phasing out the older voices and personalities in favour of more exposure being given to Taylor, Slater and Healy. They were probably instructed by some moron at Nine to start making the cricket broadcast more relatable for the common yob, figuring serious cricket fans would tune in anyway. So they started stuffing around and emphasising how they were such good mates with each other and all the Aussie players. That's what has led to the unprofessional feel of the Nine broadcast you get nowadays.

Put Slater in with any other commentary team around the world and you will actually get good commentary from him.

Mike Hussey the other night Saying Shaun Marsh is a Decent player of spin. Mark Nicholas replies- "He didnt do to well against india last year did he Huss" - Dead Silence.

Im fairly certain Marsh only lost his wicket to a spinner once during that series. Stupid thing to say!

I heard that. God it made me laugh. Marsh never lasted long enough to face spin from what I recall.

Think ive said it on here before but i really cant stand Ian Healy. Hes so biased towards australia its not funny.

Ive enjoyed the McGraths, Gilchrist and Hussey cameos over the summer but probably more so for there story telling of more recent years.
