Yoda_ out of action so sent thru his selections.

# 5 Western Bulldogs
Johnathan ORourke – Calder Cannons / 183cm / 75kg / ‘94

# 6 Western Bulldogs
Ollie Wines - Bendigo / 185cm / 83kg / ‘94

Thanks for that Snoop Dog

Write ups for the Dogs

Pick # 5 - Western Bulldogs
Johnathan O'Rourke (Calder Cannons/Vic Metro)
185cm, 83kg, 21.4.1994
Midfielder

Highly talented inside midfielder who had some injuries in 2011. Fought back strongly from hamstring injuries to force his way into the highly rated AIS Academy. Had a stellar year for the Cannons where he averaged 19 possessions a game and also managed to kick 8 goals (from 11 games).

A good decision maker who is slick in close, his poise inside the contest cannot be mistaken and puts team mates into good positions with his creative handballing from the stoppage. Above average by foot, but not elite, O'Rourke possess' a well rounded game of both inside and out along with the rare combination of speed and endurance, he should (almost o_O) be a lock for the Bulldogs team come round 1, 2013.

Will probably start off a back flank, but over time should develop the engine that will allow him to play plenty of midfield minutes. Not only is O'Rourke best available but as mentioned has that rare inside/out ability every recruiter loves and this compliments perfectly the young up and coming midfield pups the Dogs have at the kennel.

Pick # 6 - Western Bulldogs
Oliver Winers (Bendigo Pioneers/Vic Country)
188cm, 90kg, 7.10.1994
Midfielder

Highly rated coming into the year and he did not disappoint. Started the year off blazingly for the Pioneers and was duly selected in the Vic Country squad for the championships where he went on to average 24 possessions a game, eventually winning All Australian honours (named in the Centre).

A similar style player to O'Rourke in that both are inside midfielders, both good decision makers and both are very good by foot. Wines is physically more developed than most and he used that to his advantage this year, throwing his body in at the contest, he is also a very strong tackler recording some big numbers for the Pion's (averaged 7.5 tackles PG - 13 in one game!!) with a good technique pinning the arms and not allowing the offload.

His kicking has been undersold by some and over rated by others, but he will never be elite by any stretch of the imagination but will not let you down. Strong enough over head but not elite whilst his strong goal instincts are a handy acquisition to have in any midfielder.

The bulldogs midfield stocks should be set now with the drafting of O'Rourke and Wines, may not most likely pan out this way as the Dogs have an abundance of inside mids, but these two are best available in my eyes and would round them out perfectly, allowing for the other areas of need to be filled later in the draft.

Kennedy and Hrovat in first 18 Wowee!
Height isn't the issue it once was.
Those two will be fascinating to watch come draft day.
Cluerey at 19 is a steal in my humble opinion. The pies have some nice picks in this draft and are lucky to have Darcy Moore up their sleeve who will be as good as Joe daniher I reckon.

I just had a problem splitting the next batch of midfielders on talent and felt that going for the best available was correct here. I have a feeling that I could get a midfielder/small defender with your next two picks that are not a massive downgrade on who I could have picked with your first selection.

Hansen - Not sure about him long term.
Tarrant - Constantly injured
Black - Liked him a few years ago so he is an option
Daw - Second ruck, so less of a key forward
Curran - Pass

Jaksch you could play forward or back so that opens up plenty of options for the future.

Which player did you want with the first pick Joshen?

Yep, that is fair enough. I'd be hoping for MacRae or Kennedy but unfortunately they're both gone. Would've probably picked up Hrovat/Simpson in your situation.

Pick #20 Adelaide - Josh Simpson 183cm 72kg (East Fremantle)

Was really struggling as to what I'd do here for Adelaide. We need a tall back and a speedy outside midfielder. But I think pace in our side right now is the most important thing when we are a genuine flag chance in the next 2-3years. A young key back won't be ready in that window but a pacy mid could play straight away or within a year and when Simpson was still there, I had to take him. Otherwise I would have taken Tanner Smith.

Simpson is a lovely, smooth moving outside midfielder with damaging pace and lovely finishing skills. He is the type that will get the ball and provide a lot of run and carry and hurt teams on the rebound with his pace and kicking skills. Also, for a bloke of his slight frame, he is quite good overhead and with added bulk/pre-season work etc, he should develop even more strength and confidence and become a powerful AFL wingman. He will never be a large accumulator of the footy but has a higher hurt factor per possession than most players. He is like Lewis Jetta in that regard or Andrew Lovett from a few years ago, smooth and dangerous.

He is also no stranger to SA, having played some terrific footy for North Adelaide juniors last year before moving back to WA. Adelaide don't have many stabs at a quality player (and probably won't even have this pick) but if they do and he is here, it is a bit of a bargain.

#21 Collingwood - Tim Membrey (VIC - Fwd)

Strong, ready to go forward. Real leader by example and one of those types who demands respect. Has to this point in time played as a key forward but projects as more of a 3rd tall at his height. Has the ability to play right away with his strong, man’s body. Big contested marking target up forward who hits the scoreboard with regularity and has produced some big goal hauls. Very strong mark on the lead. Set shot goal kicking very good and knows where the goals are. Membrey is physically very strongly built so his impact for a forward looks like it could be more immediate than the next player. Membrey’s production and presence up forward is un-ignorable. While he hasn’t had much opportunity through the midfield I would be drafting him to be developed into a strong bodied inside midfielder. Has the skillset and as well as the physicality to thrive in this role but having played mostly forward this year it is still an unknown.
--

Very happy to get Membrey here and see him as a perfect fit for the Collingwood list. Dane Swan and Luke Ball as the current stronger bodied midfielders are both nearing 30 so Membrey is the perfect long term replacement to play alongside Pendlebury and Beams along term. Would look to develop Membrey into a Josh Kennedy of sorts where he gets developed into a strong bodied inside ball winning beast who can also go forward at times and be a marking presence where required. The midfield capacilities are the unknown but with Collingwood's strong development program and strong midfield group I think if it's not there he is capable of learning off that group and developing it.

OK, so my write up for Garner. I'll be a little lazy and use what I posted in my draft thread...

No doubting that Taylor Garner is one of the real surprise packets of this years draft, coming from a long way back to be considered a first round prospect. And while he might not be thought about as a top 10 pick, I'd be giving it a lot of thought. His performance in week three of the Championships against WA was probably the best performance of any player during the entire month in my opinion - and it was the culmination of his early season form. He just did everything you could possibly ask for. He took strong marks up forward, kicked goals and handed them off to teammates too. And then in the midfield, he won his own contested ball and used the ball really well. And he then ended up playing the rest of the Championships with a severely damaged shoulder, which he has since had reconstructed. Which says a lot about his attitude and determination. There aren't a lot of players with his size and overhead marking ability, who are also good in the contested situations. He does all the hard team stuff, but also the freakish things too. The possible rewards of picking Garner are huge in my opinion, he looks to be one of those modern day footballers. AFL Comparison: Nathan Fyfe.

As I said before, I was deciding between four players here - Taylor Garner, Josh Simpson, Spencer White and Tom Clurey. I rate Simpson as the best player out of WA and a clear top 10 pick on talent, White was the best KPF available and Clurey was the best KPP in general available. So all of them had genuine claims to this pick.

But, Garner was simply best available. I personally rate Garner ahead of Wines, O'Rourke and Macrae. I think he is a more versatile, more damaging player with a far greater scope for improvement. The only weakness or risk in picking him here would be his injury issues, he did pop his shoulder out in every Championships game he played in. But he has had it reconstructed, and he'll be right to go at the start of the season. In terms of his football, I don't think there are many weaknesses - certainly not his marking, kicking or tackling. And he just has that natural feel for the game that only the best players have.

Why Fremantle? Imagine having Fyfe, Crozier and Garner all playing in the same side together. Being able to rotate those three (as well as Morabito and hopefully Michie) around the ground would be excellent and teams wouldn't know who to stop. To that point, I would develop Garner into a defender so we could have one in each area of the ground. He has done it before, and has all the traits to become one of the best rebounding defenders in the game.

I don't envy Tigs2010 at the moment - while there are a stack of players I'd be happy taking at 45 or 47 there is nobody left that demands pick 23. If he goes for a tall it will be a reach, otherwise its a serviceable but limited running player like Lonergan, Wright, Graham or Carter.

I think you're underrating at least one of those guys...

Have to agree, the BF phantom normally throws up some surprises but it has nailed the first 22 picks IMO based on what I have seen and read. I guess teams might look at a Dean Towers/Shane Nelson type at this point as mature players who have tested really well athletically.

Isn't Yoda_ up at 22 first?

Gee the pace is pretty slow and then a player who has already been chosen is picked.
We need to lift our game fellas.
Joe daniher pick 10 201cm 93kg kp
I rate daniher with toumpas and Grundy as most talented in the draft.
Strengths are his marking and athleticism. The kid also clearly loves footy and wants to be the best he can be.
His kicking while long can be erratic and while Joe has put on 12kg in two years he has another ten to go.
Obtaining Goddard and daniher and using only pick ten is a good result for the bombers.
Best available is my preferred method which may upset some bombers posters.

I agree, if you can't read the OP then you lose your chance.

Pick 22 Bulldogs - Jesse Lonergan

He was next up in both mine and Knightmare's drafts. Not ideal considering who he has already taken, but oh well. Lets get this going again.
