I'd be surprised if any club saw Polks as anything more than loose change at the moment. GWS might take him because he's a unit but really, he's a similar type to several that they already have on their list.

The club that trades for Polks will do so because they think they can make something of him. But if he's a bit speculative, then he's not worth a real lot on the draft table.

Pretty much sums it up POBT, comes down to what other clubs offer, and what GWS want.

I don't see any players that are not in a teams top 22 being able to do it. Maybe Maguire would be of interest. Very solid KDP and possibly only has 3 more seasons in him. Sheeds has already said that the KPP's are of interest. After his three years of service and GWS have to cull their list he could possibly be one of those players.

Conway, Tickner, Cameron are of interest to me as starting to see the likes of the SA and WA teams go for local products reducing the risk of the go home factor. If they are capable then certainly should be looked at and with the two of Conway and Tickner then I would assume this would effect the way we draft this year.

With the emergence of Zorko, maybe drafting a local mature age rookie and use our fist two picks on getting Hogan/Martin or drafting best talent in the draft with our first pick and the rest KPP players.

Mature rookie listed players in the right age bracket have been a success for us. Zorko, Bewick, Raines, Maguire, Staker are all in our best 22, besides Bewick.

None of them were rookie listed?

Just for interest, I also made a note from the Tassie game of Jermaine Wardle (good size - 188, moved well, even spent a period in the Ruck), and likewise Michael Wyld (FB) - looked like potential "Qld Rookie" prospects.

Wardle is one guy who I would be taking an interest in from a rookie perspective. Moves really nicely and has a bit of class about him. He is a guy who has the athletic talent to excel.

Wyld had a really good carnival. Its a shame he is a bit short for his preferred KPD role. He would have turned some heads though and if he can show some versatility at NEAFL level on the run home he is not without a chance.

I don't mind the look of Kristian Jaksch for our compo/second round pick I feel he's probably the type of player we'd go for, given his versatility. Can't say I've seen him in action but a guy who can hold his own in defence as well as up forward can't hurt. Of course, it may be of more value to draft a guy who really stands out in one of those positions. Anyone shed any light on him?

Interesting bit about the Suns apparently being interested in using their first rounder in the mini draft to pick up Hogan... If they don't pick up consecutive spoons....

Scotty Clayton has said that we'll go for a mini-draft pick at some point, but it's extremely hard to see us going for Hogan given our stocks in young KPFs. I would have thought it would be Martin we'd be after.

Under the new system, the AFL commission has the power to award priority picks to struggling teams at its discretion, but the League has confirmed none of its clubs would qualify for such a pick in the first year of the new scheme's operation.

"The new system can't apply after one year," AFL spokesman Patrick Keane told AFL.com.au.

"The slate was wiped clean when the commission decision was announced in February and special assistance can't apply after one poor season."

It seems to initially indicate the Suns, but then there's also reference to Melbourne.

I've no problem with us not getting one this year after a much improved effort, but I do feel a bit for Port. As soon as any of the interstate clubs look like getting a Round 1 PP it's scrapped.

Seems like they are saying it's back to square one as of this year, so maybe they will look at priority picks again as of next year, so no one will get pick this year.

Good for us, as we will win more than 5 anyway, and without any priority picks will thus no doubt move back up the order regardless....

Given our probable small number of delistings, I'm wondering more and more that we might be in a place to have a legitimate crack at a player in the mini-draft. It was well be a gamble the club is willing to take to get something we need in the medium term. Obviously this may be reliant on what happens with Tippett.

If you give away a couple of picks in the mini-draft, do you still need to take a minimum of 3 players on draft day?

I believe so, though as commonly noted promoted rookies still count.

Could easily trade our first two picks, promote crisp and mckeever. However I'm not sold that our first 2 picks would even be enough. Biggest issue with going mini draft is can we afford it for me.

Depends what we rate in the mini-draft compared to the big show really.

I'm not suggesting we definitely might, but with the activation of the compo pick we've got a bit more to play with.

Seems a little ridiculous to me that the suns will give up pick number 2 in this draft for a mini draft pick. A year is a long time in footy and at least you would have a better understanding drafting a player with a years extra development, there would be no guarantee that the mini draft pick would turn out any better than a player picked at 2 this year. Gives the group as a whole another year to develop together in seniors

I understand with list development you want players at different ages (so there isnt a mass lose of talent in one year/pay structure/development etc) but surely not not worth that type of trade.

Also you'd see GWS as you main rival in a few years why give them any advantage at all.

For those getting down to the Lions reserves tomorrow, Cameron has been named to play with GC this weekend. Still under big injury cloud and probably won't play. Keep an eye out in case.

Sam Gribble one of our academy kids has been named for us as well. I would want him to improve the quality of his disposal but he is someone to keep an eye on.

Loved what I saw of McBean last year - IMO smashed Elton in one game and with the little I've seen so far this year, would be comfortable with Oli Wines as our first pick.

I also am quite interested in Wines, I was also a big fan of Caddy's when he was playing in the Nationals. Asked in another forum if someone would compare the two and they said,

'Both are hard at the ball and strongly built inside ball winning beasts. Both are excellent clearance players and contested ball winners so the inside aspects of their games are similar. Wines for mine has the better all round game and is the more polished of the two. Wines is just so composed and his decision making and ball use by both hand and foot. It's rare for an inside player to be able to do much of what he does. Both are excellent players though and have great futures ahead of them at AFL level. No doubt.' Knightmare.

Even though I'm not the biggest fan of player comparisons on the Phantom Drafts Knightmare also compares him to Trent Cotchin but just with a bigger body, now I don't know about others but I love Trent Cotchin and how he goes about it.

There are a few areas of fairly dire need that we need but if we were to go with Wines with our first pick I wouldn't be dissapointed especially if other areas were addressed later in the draft.

Roos' son played in the Swans reserves this morning apparently. Both us and Sydney a chance to grab him F/S (not sure if this year or next though). Anyone know anything more on him? I'd be keen to do it just for the fact it would make Roos have to support the club, and then would give us enormous media coverage.
