Am I right in saying Clouston, Boston and Cameron can be zone selected?
Would be great if any of those three came to us.
I mean zoned by GC then traded to us, just like Zorko

SIMPSON-Josh-2012.jpg
East Fremantle (WA) 18 183 cm 72 kg
Josh simpson Kevin Sheehan says: "Medium midfielder/forward who is exciting with his natural speed and agility. Dangerous player around goal and very capable overhead for a player of his size. Represented SA in 2011 AFL U18s before returning to his native WA in 2012 where he played 4 matches and averaged 14 disposals and 3 tackles per game."-- i really like this kid

Not sure if anyone has said this but we are looking at Scott Clouston again. I believe 3 other clubs are also interested in him as well.

This is the same Scott Clouston we rookie drafted (2006) and then delisted a few years later, is it not?

If so, would redrafting him(as a previously delisted player) be a rare event in the AFL?

Just curious, that's all

I think Sydney did it with Amon Buchanan didn't they?

I personally wouldn't be too disappointed if we took Lachie Plowman with our first pick. From what I've read about him, he seems like eventually one day he'll be able to hold down a KPD spot, even given his height (remembering he's pretty much the same height as Rutten and Glass). But the position he seems to excel at the most is the Sam Fisher type position where he's allowed to zone off and go third man up, and providing a lot of run off half back. He's the same height as Sam Fisher too, so I don't see that as too much of a problem. Watching his draftee video on the AFL website, he takes players on like a midfielder too, so even though he might not be able to hold down a KPD position straight away, early in his career I could easily see him playing that tall rebounder off half back.

Definitely fills a need too, so wouldn't be disappointed at all. That being said, I think the Western Bulldogs will take him with 5 or 6.

Yes it is the same one that was on our list.

Not sure if this has been discussed previously; is Tim Membrey a chance at our compensation pick? I see that he is being sold as a forward capable of playing in the midfield (much in the same way that Darling was marketed coming up to the draft).

Could he work as a full forward in years to come with Lisle CHF, Longer/Lewie rotating through?

Also, how highly regarded is Nick Graham? Morrish Medal winner this year and looks to have all the tools to be a good midfielder in the AFL.

Too small for the Full-Forwards role at AFL level, more of the third forward who has a great marking ability. Smaller then Darling, and doesn't have the abitity to crash packs like him, would be a good pickup but we would still need to find a bigger forward.

felt like reading about Cornelius.

If the club is serious about keeping Ace and wanting him to be that 3rd tall, then we shouldnt' be drafting any KPF who are undersized. About 195cm and up if we are going down that path.

I think Membrey has even resigned himself to a third tall role at AFL level. Will probably not go as high as his talent suggests he should purely because he is medium forward height. Extremely talented IMO and should make a very good player in the Crameri mould.

I agree with this thinking.

What's the point in replacing Cornelius with someone similar but with no track record?

At least Ace has shown glimpses of what we all hope he might become.

Well, Now I've done it again. Got my heart set on a player and well know I can kiss 'em goodbye. Wines or Stringer at 8 but I would be suprised if either of them were there. Big body brutes!

My two favorites for our pick 8 as well. Pity we can't have both. Think Wines will probably be gone by 8 but Stringer is a good chance to still be available. At our pick 23 I like Shaw and Lonergan.

I am really starting to warm to MacRea how good would it be to have another MacRea on our list
this is from knights mock draft
#4 Melbourne (Compensation Pick) – Jackson Macrae (VIC – Mid/Fwd)

Height: 188cm, Weight: 75kg, DOB: 03/08/1994
Recruited from: Oakleigh Chargers
Style:
Player comparison: Scott Pendlebury (Early career version)
Range: 3-15
Profile: Macrae has really come on this year and developed into one of the more intriguing prospects. Macrae is a highly skilled and high production outside player who has really played some fantastic football this year and has improved as much as an since the beginning of the season really showing consistent development throughout. Macrae’s kicking ability is a real standout feature – has great penetration and can kick accurately over a range of distances up to 55m and hit targets in dangerous positions. Finishing ability around goal good. Really weights his kicks beautifully and with regularity finds the correct target. Even under pressure in positions where he has no right to get a clear kick off to a target he still has great ability to find the right target up the field. Has rare poise and composure and seems to have more time than the next player in the same way Pendlebury does and just never looks rushed with ball in hand. He reads the play well both offensively and defensively allowing him to get to the right positions. Marking ability above average and field marking ability as well as marking ability behind the ball is good. The other feature in Macrae’s game that makes him stand out from the pack is his running ability. Has really impressive pace and with it a very high work rate and excellent endurance which allows him to get so much of the ball around the ground.

And this is from Chris's mockdraft
8. Brisbane - Jackson Macrae (188cm midfielder - Oakleigh)

Without a doubt, Jackson Macrae is the flavour of the month at the moment. And he is well and truly deserving of such a title. His recent form has been excellent, and has obviously played a starring role in the TAC Cup finals series. His early season was inconsistent, but you could really see the signs of him getting ready to break out - and he did so in the Championships for Vic Metro, where he played as a really offensive minded winger. He won plenty of ball, and went forward to good effect. He is the perfect size for such a role, and has all the necessary traits - his agility would be elite amongst AFL players. He isn't the fastest straight line runner, but he just has that ability to dance around tacklers and get away from the packs. In regards to his kicking, it's hard to argue with his results this year but I'll be interested to see how it holds up to the increased speed of AFL. He can tend to loop the ball up in the air a bit, and while he is a long kick he may need to work on his penetration a little. But I've been saying for a month now to watch out for him in the top 10, and I think he'll be a good player. AFL Comparison: Steele Sidebottom.
Apologise to Knights and Chris if anyone got the wrong idea and thought I wrote these

Blueiris it is customary to acknowledge appreciation to the people that actually wrote those assessments. From the way they are posted it seems as if you are claiming to be your own work.

believe Boston is Suns zone selected.... he played a number of games for Broadbeach seniors this year (after Stingray comitments) and adjusted to the tempo extremely well. Made all australian under 18s this year. Has just completed the combine draft week and performed very well. Is a silky player and a beautiful kick..... is destined to be drafted.

I think all of Wines, Stringer, and O'Rouke, will be gone by the time our pick comes around more likely Mayes, MacRea, Menzel, and Garlett, are the Mids that I think will avilable at around our pick. But my heart is set on Shaw but I think I will be disappionted.
If it comes to pick 7 and Mayes, Wines, O'rourke, Macrae, Garlett are all still available Port Adelaide will go for the local lad in Mayes.
Hopefully this is what the top 8 picks will look like:
1. Lachie Whitfield
2. Jimmy Toumpass :(
3. Brodie Grundy
4. Jonathan O'rourke
5. Jackson Macrae
6. Lachlan Plowman
7. Sam Mayes
8. Oliver Wines
If this is what will occur on Draft Day we have a lot of good talent at pick.
Wines and Garlett should be our predominant targets at pick 8 with Mason Shaw as a smokey.
It is imperative that we do all we can over the next few weeks to secure another pick in the top 25.
At pick 8 we could also take a major risk in taking Lachlan Plowman (if available) and try turn him into a forward IMO this in the long run could pay dividends as he is a super talent and if we cant convert him into a forward we would a very capable backman.

Have been thinking about the fall of the first 7 picks all day today actually. Think the first three are pretty well much locked in. Mayes is an interesting one, agree if he is at Ports pick they'll take him but from all reports he's all class and could go at 4. Some have talked up Wines at 4 but Melbourne got Viney, both inside players. WB should be interesting, for me I think Stringer and Plowman. The last two drafts they picked up 3 inside mids with their first picks. Stringer is a beast and McCartney I feel will want him. Plowman comes in to help feel the void left by Lake's departure. Leaving, Wines, O'Rourke and Macrae. Not too sure which way Port would go here but I would think that it would be one of Wines or O'Rourke. Thus the possibility of getting Wines or O'Rourke but let's face it............who the hell knows, sure is fun!

To add I think that if we go mid first pick then we will go KPP's the remaining. Watched some vision of O'Brien and he certainly has something that stands out, good spring and hands plus he's a rednut. Tanner Smith or Clurey as KPP would be good but I also like the size of Rodda. Could be the match up for the big forwards. Spencer White and Jake Calvert I like as smokies. Possible fourth and rookie picks.

Yeah I also like Jake Calvert as a smokey! I also wouldnt be too upset if we took a punt at Mason Wood with pick 49. Both Calvert and Wood have plenty of upside IMO.
