I know with all the Phantoms going on, most people have Melbourne taking Wines with pick 4. Would a gun defender not be a priority for them after Rivers leaving? Is there a chance they could surprise us all and take Plowman at 4?

Nah, they'll take Wines.

1. He is a top prospect who is a hard nut inside midfield - that can strengthen and build their core now with Moloney gone.

2. He was coached by Todd Viney who thinks extremely highly of him.

3. He is best mates with Jack Viney.

3 points are valid C4. I know that he will most likely go there, but since they have already got a gun mid with Viney this year and Hogan to come on board to boost their forward stocks, I think they they could totally somewhat repair their list in this draft (unless the afl takes pick 4 from them) and take the best backman in Plowman. There is usually a few picks out of no where, just thought Melbourne could surprise us. Plowman will be a vital part of any team that takes him in the next few years. Surely he won't slip out to the mid teens as some phantoms have him? Would GWS take him at 3?

With all due respect to Melbourne, they need a boost of quality all over the park. They could most certainly do with a player like Wines.

I think we will see a new approach to the draft from Melbourne this year.

Given their recent history with drafting (and I am aware that it isn't the same RM), I think we will see them take the more conservative approach - which is another reason why I think they will take somebody like Wines.

Could well happen, I've got them at four and five on my list, going three and four in my phantom with Plowman in front. Couldn't go wrong with either of them.

Thought they took the conservative approach when they took Watts?

History would be repeating if they overlooked another aggressive ruck.

Wines might add some steel, but an aggressive big man like Kreuzer would cover for Jamar once he's retired.

Just a quick little thought about Stringer & his past injury. Carlton have taken risks on players who have broken their legs in the past.
Ed Curnow broke his leg in 2010 at VFL level in Round 12/13 (can't remember which one) - he went on to win the Box Hill BnF (he dominated first 12/13 rounds).
So perhaps if Stringer is available @ pick 11 - his injury wont scare us off.

It is interesting how few votes most of the highly favoured Victorian players managed to receive in the TAC B&F (Morrish medal). I know they don't play all the games but for example Whitfield got 1 vote in 8 games. You would think a No1 pick would be dominating his own under age comp. Most of the guys who polled over 10 votes aren't the guys being talked up. Makes me think the draft could be over rated. Any thoughts from the guys who watch TAC cup?

Don't think Macrae's the player your mob would want. Too similar to Murphy for me, which isn't a bad thing, but I think you're better off selecting a player that complements your needs more. I have the Blues selecting Jaksch in my PD, but wouldn't be surprised if you ended up with Kennedy, Garner or Plowman (Vlastuin would be great, but I don't think he'll be available).

Does Plowman live up to his name "off the field"?
Who would you be most upset about us passing on?
O'Rourke if there's a snowflake in hell and he slides. Assuming everyone is healthy and develops, we might have enough grunt and muscle in Robinson, Bell, Mclean, Curnow and O'keeffe. Not sure that we have enough outside class and run with Yarran a key to our side. O'Rourke has the skill we need. Might play a similar role to Yarran or Gaff. Simpson and Scotland aren't kids, so we have to find a replacement for two of our best kicks and outside mids/runners.

If we pass on Stringer, then it's due to his injuries and another gun talent sliding, rather than Stringer lacking talent.

Not sure that we really need Macrae with Gibbs a similar type.

There's a spot for Mayes in our forwardline.

I just want a footballer...no projects, no athletes...just a footballer please, and a little physical presence wouldn't hurt either. On the limited vision I have seen Plowman looks a gun. How could we possible pass him up if he reached 11. Not sure if the footage of Stringer is pre or post break but I likes what I see, Vlastuin looks good to go. Membrey has barely rated with Carlton supporters but gee...looks like he could add another dimension up forward.
