The pick of the crop:Quayle

No Garlett in Quayle's top 25.

Actually surprised, but not. Read an article a while back that rated Josh Simpson as better than Garlett. Garlett said to be more the extrovert and thats why most saw 'more' of him. Simpson on the other hand was a quiet achiever, but more a Yarran type, which seem to be the indigenous lads that get picked up first. the off-field stuff speaks volumes for these boys unfortunately.

Now that's a surprise.
Some were toying around by putting him at no. 3 at stages.

Outside Whitfield there seems to be little certainty about any of the other drops for this year.
Hope Quayle is right for a change and Wines can slide...

1. Whitfield
2. Toumpas
3. Plowman
4. Grundy
5. O'Rourke
6. Macrae
7. Mayes
8. Menzel
9. Vlastuin
10. Daniher
11. Wines

If Menzel's knee is right for Carlton to pick him at 11, then he's right to get to Richmond or Brisbane who lack a class half forward and finisher.

Think Brisbane are pretty happy with their half forward stocks, agree on Richmond though. They'd probably overrate Knights though.

I miss the early mocks that had us getting Wines :(

Like yourself my friend, it isnt hard to garner who those of the greater knowledge are. Like half a dozen others I could name I read with interest their input. On this occasion it was quite obvious to me that the poster had tunnel vision to who he wanted the club to recruit and was using whatever 'qualified' source he could find to 'push' his claim. We all have our views on who we believe would be best, but just because another poster disagrees, doesnt necessarily make them wrong either. At the end of the day, many a man did all the research possible and most didnt come up with Kane Lucas, and even less with Josh Bootsma.

Kudos to you Sin City if youre bothering to read my endless tripe, for your draft write up, very well researched and explained. Worthy read.
If I was using tunnel vision I would've been pushing for Garlett or Wines still. Harker asked me who I wanted a few pages back, I used my tunnel vision to select best available :p

If you did read my endless tripe (my phantom) you'll see that after watching them I rate Stringer and Lonegan more in the mid twentys. Not bagging them and I usually have a pretty strong bias towards inside midfielders, just that there are better players.

First Macrae and now Wines, I'm setting myself up for a fall here but just maybe............. :p

I can't think of one who is as dangerous as a Betts, Garlett or Walker. Banfield, Zorko, Green, etc. aren't classy AND good in the air like Mayes and Menzel. Mayes could be a no brainer if he slides that far. They haven't baulked at drafting SA players in the past. Polec plus Redden when a local boy in Beams was available.

Going off Quayle's article and her tweets - she said Collingwood were into Garlett but now not so much - is there a chance Garlett could slide to our 2nd pick?
I doubt port would take him @ 30 or 31 as they are believed to be going for SA talent. He could just be the surprise drop - Robbo was meant to go first round according to our recruiters, yet he dropped to 40.
Maybe at our 2nd pick his attitude won't seem like such a risk of we already have pick 11 (menzel/McRae/lonergan)

Then again I could be doing some wishful thinking.

I would think it to be very wishful thinking, to have Garlett available at our second selection - but as we all know, come draft night there are always surprises, be it due to bolters, sliders or both.

If he's there at our second selection he's an absolute no-brainer IMO, and I don't think our staff would be able to read his name out quick enough. Certain players have issues, and we know Garlett does. However, at some stage you have to back your club in to get the best out of any individual. Surround him with the right people in the right environment, and give him every chance to flourish in an AFL setting.

I'm certain someone will take him before our pick. It's almost unfathomable to me that someone wouldn't.

It was my endless tripe, get your own. Anyways I agree with Harker, you have an extensive knowledge of the draftees and i'll continue to read your posts with interest. All the best, just hope we, the CFC, get some quality kids/players in this draft that help us to #17. cheers.

Garlett is way too talented to get to our second. Unless he is in some serious trouble back in WA he'll get oicked up well before then
If Garlett gets to St Kilda, it could be Cripps all over again. Two years in Melbourne and gone.

Not sure that the Hawks would be interested in Garlett after getting Anderson, but he could be hard to pass up.

Think Hawks fans want younger mids.

Just as a disclaimer:

in 2010 I was almost certain that Patrick McCarthy wouldn't make our first pick

Likewise. He and Mitch were great gets in that draft, as was the next pick. Hoping our #1 pick from that draft isnt overshadowed by the later picks and all 4 as mentioned come real good. That was a real solid draft for the CFC. Hope this years is just as good if not better.

Had him at 13 and getting picked at 10 :thumbsu:

I was actually at training when the draft was on that year, got my mate to text me Carlton's picks. Thought I was either getting trolled or he was just going off the AFL website's draft predictor when I read our first three picks. Got home and couldn't believe our luck :D

I wouldn't worry too much about pick 11, so much talent about that we can't go wrong. If we can nail pick 36 and get a star out of that I'll be very happy.

2010 certainly is looking to be a fantastic draft and trade period for us.

Watson, McCarthy, Mitchell, McInnes, Duigan, Curnow and Laidler all joined the club at that time.

It's only early, but that's the sort of draft that really sets a club up. You look at the dominant Geelong side of the past few years, and you see that the core of their side came from a number of drafts which, quite simply, they nailed.

In 1999, the Cats recruited Mooney, Corey, Chapman, Ling and Enright. In 2001 they recruited Bartel, Kelly, SJ and Ablett. Fast forward a decade and these players formed the core of a group which is widely regarded, and deservedly so, as the greatest team in the modern era. They are Best & Fairest winners, Brownlow medalists and of course premiership players.

Not for a moment am I suggesting that the group of players we brought in to the club in 2010 are to reach the level of the Geelong players, but it does demonstrate that a couple of good recruiting efforts over a number of seasons can really set a club up for serious chances of success over a period of time.

If we can bring another group of really talented kids to the club on Thursday, we'll set ourselves up beautifully for a number of years to come.

Time is slowing down and going backwards with four days to go, so there's still time to change your phantom. :( :p

Still nervous about taking Menzel.

Don't know why everyone is getting so nervous about this draft... we are so in the box seat. It doesn't matter who we pick, we are certain to get a Pavlich/Franklin/Fyfe/Ziebell..... we have the first live pick after Richmond!

Like those highlights of Kennedy. Just a terrier and dynamo like Dalhaus who slipped through to the rookie draft. He'd love the fast track at Etihad and the G.

Hine's draft preview
“I think with this particular draft, it’s going to open up quite quickly.

“I think there’s a good dozen or so that are probably a little bit ahead of the rest of the field."

A truer word has never been written Sin..... :D :D :p :p ;)

have to agree here. After 2 years of compromised drafts where pick #11 was more like pick #20+ we are going to get a great player whomever it is at pick #11
