Lads,

Forgive me if a similar thread has already been created but its been a while between posts and I’m trying to get used to the new layout etc.

After watching what has been a very disappointing season to date, I would be delisting the following players (If someone is silly enough get a trade):

Bail (Extremely poor by foot and cant kick over a jam tin. In this day and age of footy - poor kick means don’t let the door hit you on the way out)
Bate (Has had more than enough chances & 100 games into his career he is a list clogger. Another that is a poor kick and has the turning circle of the Queen Mary)
Davey (Has improved from the beginning of the season but his best is behind him)
Dunn (Similar to Bate, has run his race. Love his aggression but silly suspensions don’t help his cause either)
Fitzpatrick (Was a late draft pick and doesn’t dominate at VFL level)
Green (Is well & truly past his best and now injuries are limiting him. Former club Captain and been a great servant but time to retire)
MacDonald (Terrible decision maker and continually makes them over & over again)
Spencer (Project player that is not up to the grade)

That is 8 players off our list and you could look to possibly upgrade Nicholson or Magner, but both can stay on the rookie list if required.

I would also shop around:
Morton (Club whipping boy who still holds some value)
Petterd (Fallen out of favour)
Bennell (Change of scene may be beneficial to both club & player)

Thoughts?

We can't hide from the fact that a lot of our guys are no good, not up to it etc.

If they were, we wouldn't be in the position we are

I've got time for Bail though, just needs to improve his skills

Bate / Dunn I'm in conflict over - they don't seem to fit the modern game, yet I'm loath to lose a couple of the mature bodies we have

Davey has another 12 months, we will retain him

Never seen the fuss with Fitzpatrick personally but then again young talls take time

You'd think Greeny is pretty much done

Joel Mac goes in hard and provides a contest, terrible decision maker and disposal whether under pressure or not

Spencer I'd have for another 12 months - ruckman do take time

Morton I'd keep for another 12 months / until current contract is up. We'll get little for him and his run and spread could prove to be very valuable

Petterd - this is a mystery to me, no idea whats going on here

Bennell looks good when he has the ball but crikey he just doesn't get it enough

I think there will be a big clean out at the end of the year. I'm an armchair "expert" so I'll let the footy dept. do their thing and trust in their decisions

Same as last year.

I'd probably give Dunn another year. He is just so handy to fill a gap when a player is injured and there is no ready/healthy kid to take their place.

I'm pretty sure Fitz will get at least another year as well, or at a minimum we'd attempt to grab him up again in the rookie draft.

Another year Dunn and Bate hasn't cemented a spot in the 22 yet posters don't want to flick 'em. Mind blowing.

True definition of list cloggers.

We need to flick the mountain of flankers that are on our list.

Delist Dunn, Bate, Joel Macdonald, Green, Spencer, prob. Jurrah (expecting the worst) n one of Bennell or Jetta. What Bennell has, Jetta doesn't. what Jetta doesn't, Bennell has. i'd go with Jetta by a nose.

Trade Stef Martin. Fish Morton, Sylvia, Moloney but prob. won't be getting value in return so keep.

Wanted Petterd traded last year and his value dropped to nothing so keep for 12 months. Needs to build a midfielders tank or get out.

I rate Troy Davis. Tom Macdonald is a good kid. With Frawley there and Garland can play small.

A decision might have to be made on Rivers. Has had a good year though.

I know that others have said that Petterd is a mystery but any colour on why he's not cutting it? Is it attitude or injury or is he simply not in Neeld's plans. He's been thrown around on the Swans board as a good fit come trade time and I always liked him (admittedly from seeing a couple of good games rather a consistent season long effort).

Ha! Rivers is safe as houses. He is a leader and one of our best for the year.

Petterd has been struggling with injury and to get back to full fitness. Will benefit from a big preseason I reckon and could become a similar hf/mid to Sylvia but without the obvious talent. I think Ricky prefers more of a workhorse role to be honest.

If I had my druthers, they'd be flicked (Bate / Dunn) but we're at a stage where we have SO few mature bodies on the list, I'm just not sure we can afford to cut anymore (considering Green is probably in his last year and who knows - perhaps Moloney is as well)

If we had a pile of 25 - 30 year old players - Bate and Dunn instadelist but this is the biggest problem IMO with our list

Fitzpatrick is doing well at VFL level. We bought him cheap knowing his CFS, and now his diabetes has set him back. Will get at least another year.

Do agree that we must cleanse, but not in the same way as Brisbane did three years ago.

Keep Jack Fitz, MacDonald and Dunn

Jetta over Bennell any day... Bennell doesnt get enough footy because he doesnt want to go in and get it, jetta does then he can use his pace and skills etc.

Keep Dunn, he's a useful fringe player and has some useful attributes.. bate however has nothing other than a long kick.
Spencer should go we have 4 better ruck options in Jamar, Martin, Gawn and even fitzpatrick.

When does Green's contract expire?
Joel Macdonald doesnt offer anything other than an effort for the hardball and 100+ games.. he doesnt have a lot of stand out qualities and with Tynan, Strauss, Nicho, Davis coming through id like to see him go. Even Dunn looks better at half back

Correct me if im wrong but a club would only delist a player if they are out of contract, so for starters we wont be delisting Bate, Morton or Davey, we could trade them of course, but the return on them... So the real question is who is both out of contract and are not up to scratch?

To the poster above Im 99% sure Green is on yearly contracts only.. He's a tricky one, I dont want to lose too much experience, we have so little as it is, but if he hasnt got what it takes anymore then he may retire

Correct except Bate is out of contract and is an unrestricted free agent but Davey and Morton should be safe unless traded.
These guys are all out of contract that aren't setting the world on fire, Bail, Bartram, Bate, Bennell, Dunn, Green, Jetta, Macdonald, Petterd, Spencer. Other out of contract players that should be safe are Blease, Cook, Davis, Howe, Jones, Jurrah, Moloney, Rivers, Strauss. Jurrah could also be delisted depending on his court case.

These guys have been unlucky with injuries. Though I don't think Green will play next year. His body is telling him to call it a day.

true, Bartram is also in the leadership group so I'll be expecting him to stay, I would like to see Green have one more year but I doubt it would happen, Jetta though he has been injured has never cemented his spot in the side over 4 years at the club so I can't see much reason for him to stay unless he gets back in the side before the end of the year and plays really well.

I think Melbourne should delist a minimum of 8 players, then sign the best 2 free agents we can get. Then we have 6 draft picks.
Pick 3-Draft non negotiable
Pick 4-draft non negotiable
Pick 11?- draft or tradable
Pick 26?- draft or tradable but hopefully Jack Viney f/s selection
Rookie upgrade Nicholson
Rookie upgrade Magner

Trade Moloney. Another vary viable option.

Honestly I don't know whether there is any value in doing this

Beamer's currency would be pretty low considering his out put this year, we lose a mature body CAPABLE of playing good football

We stand to lose more than we gain by trading Brent out IMO

I disagree. I think we could get something half decent for him, or at least use him as a sweetener in a trade. Mature body or not, if he doesn't improve his skills or attitude (dunno which one it is), he really shouldn't be playing. The guy has been pretty useless this year.

I agree he's been useless. I agree IF an amazing trade could be pulled, then float it.

However, he is a very capable footballer. We know that. If we got offered pick 45 then it would be no no and no

Thank you for this list. So I'm thinking trade or delist Petterd (unless he somehow plays 7 or 8 awesome games in the seniors before the year is out), Bennell 100% gone, Green to retire, Spencer likely gone, one of Dunn or Bate to delist / trade. I reckon Neeld will keep Bail and Macdonald. Not sure what is happening with Bartram, may depend on his knee situation and whether he can actually continue at this level.

Not sure about Jetta, he hasnt really had a chance to show what he has under Neeld, perhaps delist and rookie perhaps if we need the list room?

Trade Moloney. Another vary viable option.
Can't be traded as he is a restricted free agent, he can sign somewhere else and then we can match it so we can sign him but you can't trade players in their 1st year of a new contract I'm pretty sure.
