Sylvia is probably the one I would have a bit of interest in. He has been very frustrating at Melb but he does have talent and he is the youngest of the group mentioned. He can also play both forward and through the midfield which would be handy with our current group.

Silvia would interest me, however, he might exclude himself under the "no dickheads" policy.

I can't work out why he doesn't get better returns on his talent.

On my hit list this year is from GC Dixon or Lynch, West Coast Koby Stevens and Garlett from Nth Melb. If GC get Tippett they might be more willing to give up either lynch or Dixon. Could be a three way trade there. My offer for Stevens would be banfield and a swap of picks giving us an upgrade. For Garlett I would offer anyone of Sheldon, stiller, hawksley or polkinghorn. I am also keen on us picking up dean polo that has been delisted.

I'm going to target this one particularly to the NEAFL watchers on here, in particular maurie and thoselionslads but open to anyone - what about Nathan Gilliland?

Has impressed me every time I've seen him and to be honest I've wondered why he hasn't been picked up by an AFL club. Obviously he'd only probably have a year or two in him, and it'd be up in the air as to whether or not he'd adapt to AFL level, but surely the success of Zorko would be a little inspiring.

In terms of looking in our own backyard for someone who we'd get very cheap and could fill that role of experienced mid, I think he'd be an alright pickup. Cameron Illett from the Thunder is another who could do the same job.

Haha, he's nearly 30 now and has hung up the boots so I'm not sure its going to happen.

Even after his dominant year when he won every medal in QLD he wasn't really considered a chance. Never really had the athletic ability. Good suburban footy player though.

Illett could probably play AFL. He is a really good player but is getting on a bit and is quite slow. There must be a million blokes like him around Australia.

If we were looking at the NEAFL, Davey (who won the Grogan this year), might be a chance. I think he got a late call up to the state screening (courtesy of GC). There aren't a whole lot of standouts this year.

My two preferences would be Clouston and Grose. Both have improved remarkably, are still young and have AFL assets.

Which Tuck?...Shane will be 31 in Dec.. Last year at the Club review he told Hardwick he was going to retire that he'd had enough... not getting games in the seniors he was going to join his brother Travis..There was talk that he may pull the pin and go out on his terms....

Meanwhile, delisted lions player Scott Coulston has been a champion for Redlands over the past 2 seasons and as a key forward must warrant another chance and I BELIEVE HE IS BEING SERIOUSLY CONSIDERED..Also young Boston (18) and Weller (16) at Broadbeach are guns and should play at the elite level in the not to distant future...... Lions need to recruit these guys before the Suns or anyone else gets them.

Yehh I think Grose is very talented. Haven't seen much of him this year (only when Mounties played the Lions), but I went to six or seven games last year and he really impressed me.

Has Clouston put on a bit of bulk, or is he still slight?

What was the story behind Clouston's exit from the Lions? Wasn't it that he just didn't seem to "want it" enough?

The idea of giving Clouston another go has the sense of "getting back together with an ex-girlfriend" feel about it, to me.

It's probably fair to say that back when he was on our list, the ruck/forward role wasn't so vital in the AFL. The introduction of the sub rule and the greater pace of the game has made it much more valuable, so I can see how a player considered not quite valuable enough could now be very valuable if his type is now in fashion - particularly if he is in much better form.

I have to say that I thought Clouston was one I got wrong. I remember calling him "unique" and believing he had all the physical tools to play CHF in modern footy. The bloke could mark, he could jump, he was a very good height, wasn't skinny, had elite endurance for a big man and could kick the ball a mile. What he was missing was game sense. In fact, you could probably make some comparisons between he and Retzlaff although Retzy is a more natural footballer IMO.

I reckon the game has become more structured in the past few years, particularly if you are a key forward. You are pretty much told where to run in every game situation. I think this suits someone like Clouston.

And, as others have indicated, the ability of a forward to go into the ruck is gold.

Jarryd Roughead is currently listed at only 193cm, yet he seems to do an alright job in the ruck.

Yeah, I've seen some real short-arses compete quite well in the ruck at AFLQ level so it would be a real question mark as to whether he can compete at AFL level.

Yep, if only one or two (?) clubs nominate a kid they go to state screening instead of draft camp.

Believe 6 clubs needs to nominate the individual to be invited to draft camp/combine.

That was with 16 clubs it may be different now with an extra two clubs.

It's his athletic ability which allows him to ruck, not his size (if that makes sense).

I have question marks over his ability to play ruck in the AFL as well.

The thing that appeals to me is that, despite his size, he could definitely play as a third tall in the forward line as you don't lose anything when it hits the deck. Possibly a similar role to Hansen at the Roos/Goldsack at the Pies/Darling at the Eagles. It allows you to play tall and move the ball fast and direct.
