In light of the other states 'draft prospects; thread, I thought it would only be fair to include one for the system that has provided the AFL in recent seasons with a premiership here, a brownlow contender (pre injury) a multiple club B&F winner and now club captain, a rising star and multiple best 22 players.

This season has seen an AFL Victoria Academy to fast track players into the top level.

With these players now under the watchful scruitiny of the Academy, the AFL is still able to provide a pathway to the top flight.

Im going to kick off things and provide a couple of names to keep an eye out for this year from my team, the Bendigo Gold (aka Bombers).

Josh Freezer, 190cm, 86kg, 22 y.o, Defender/Utility

I really, really like Freezer as a player. Plays with more confidence having come across as part of the Melbourne Metro training squad. He performed admirably last year but as mentioned, he is playing with more confidence and is taking big strides.

Freezr has a really good size about him and is not to dissimilar to another Bomber, David Myers. His long left foot kicking is a feature to his game, and is penetrating. Managed to sneak forward for a long, long goal on the weekend and was one of my best players.

Bendigo captain Ben Duscher should arguarbly be on an AFL list. He is clean at ground level, is apt on either foot, can get it inside or spread and create outside. He is a crazily good mark overhead and a deceptively good strong kick.

If I was a betting man, Id put a sneaky ten on him to win the Liston as he is a seriously good operator and an even better player.

Is there any other players that you would seriously consider from your VFL club?

I think it will be interesting to see how the VFL and other state league blokes go this year.

Last year there seemed to be a lot taken late in the rookie almost as if clubs were using the picks for insurance against inj. Certainly Essendon, North and Suns have indicated that was their strategy with some of their selections which I think is really clever.

In saying that this is such a good draft pool that I would be surprised if many were taken in the National Draft unless clubs are looking to create 4+ spots on their list.

I suspect they will come in the rookie draft and a few I will watch are (and I know a few of these arent VFL so apols);

VFL

Kyle Hartigan - I think he is arguably the best big bloke in the land not playing AFL.

ben Duscher - as HFF said

Beau Dowler - I am going to be keen to see how he goes. Clearly has trained up for a comeback.

Sam Dwyer - Staggered he missed last year. Classy and can play in and out. Would have thought a strong year brings big claims.

Tom Sundberg - You dont reckon Collingwood wouldnt have a spot in the 22 for him with Ball going down. No disrespect to Smith but how do you take him over Sundberg???

Matt O'Dwyer - if he backs up with another good year he woudl have to be a showing. not sure he wins enough contested footy though. Still worth watching.

Kane Lambert - Highly rated but havent seen enough of his good games to be convinced just yet.

Matt Boland - Young tall who has shown a bit at Sandy and Pies. Thought it was interesting he switched to Pies

Coleman Sache - I think he deserved a rookie spot and caught his game v Pies last week. Looked good.

Stephen Witkowski - I think he could be a late bloomer so will be watching his progress.

Angus Grigg - I really like the look of the NB fwd. I dont know a lot about him but a good mover and good hands.

VFL Development League

Louis Eggar - playing development league and another who was pretty close last year.

Trav La Rocca - Am a fan of this kid and want to track him.

and a few of the SANFL and WAFL boys while am at it.

SANFL

Nathan Batsanis - Doing everything to get a shot and has started well at Norwood. I really like this kid and have since his u18's

Aseri Raikiwasa - Port Magpies. Another one who missed last year and who if impressed at senior level this year would be in the mix.

Jack Hannath - Good strong prospect for mine.

Jarrad Harding - Ex Giant. keen to see his formline. Has pace, skill and a bit of x factor

Kory Beard - Dont think this kid will ever get picked but not much between he and Tim Mohr. Would be a chance to get a game at Pies at the moment if he was on list. Good start to year.

Sam Martyn - WWT

Lewis Hender - Shame he missed last year but he has started well in the seniors and these med fwds who are good 1:1 are in demand.

WAFL

Mark Hutchings - Another who Collingwood would have loved right about now. If he has another consistent year you woudl think he is in with a shot.

Ian Richardson - still only 24 and has lit it up early '12

Max Duffy - Started the year very well in the seniors.

marlon Motlop - I think he could be one that goes home and ultimately gets picked up. has a super start. genuine tricks.

Darcey Barden - the u18 powerhouse is making a fist of it in WA

Shane Nelson - West perth kid who went to DC last year and will get picked at some stage.

Sean Tighe - gone to WA ti improve his prospects and good on him.

Michael Florio - Surely another good year sees the 21yo with a chance

Myles Bolger - missed out last year and if he puts in a good injury free year I would expect him to go.

Luke Blackwell - time probably passed him.

sorry about that......got carried away!

Isn't Schloithe already on Freo's list snoop?

Fair call. When you've got clubs desperate for key defenders its bizarre nobody has given him a go. Really started to find his feet at VFL level last year, read somewhere that St Kilda were considering him as a rookie last year, wasn't to be, but you'd like to think he'll finally get that chance later this year.

Shane Valenti & Wayde Skipper @ Port Melbourne

Dean Galea???

Taylor Gilchrist - Box Hill Hawks , From Sydney Swans

David Mirra

Angus Grigg - I really like the look of the NB fwd. I dont know a lot about him but a good mover and good hands.

From Moama in NSW right on the Vic border, Played his whole life with Moama im pretty sure. Was there leading goal kicker for the last 2 years. Was way to good for the comp. Good to hear he is doing well:thumbsu:

Marc Lock at Box Hill.

Good call on Lock. Liked his game v Collingwood VFL. It's a crime GC delisted him after one year.

Kyle Hartigan is a long time favourite as a key defender. Could step in at full back for a team looking.

Sam Dwyer is fantastic and belongs on an AFL list. So good with ball in hand.

Tom Sundberg is versatile and could make it on an AFL list.

Matt Bolland is showing some promise up forward and looks a real marking presence.

Ben Duscher should be on an AFL list.

As players who missed out last year Myles Bolger and Shane Nelson are two who should also get looked at, though both WA prospects.

What would be the knock on Sam Dwyer, Knighta?

Doesn't have any major flaws that suggest that he isn't up to AFL standard but as with anyone there are always minor tweaks that can be made to improve his game.

If there was a change to make I'd like to see Dwyer win more of his own ball through the midfield. Marking can always become stronger and you see that more and more from the elite mids. Also tackling numbers could improve.

High production midfielders with his skill level, poise and ability to dance around players with ease have no right playing VFL football.

Could play AFL football tomorrow and produce I have no doubt.

There was a little fella called Jones running around for Box Hill on Saturday who looked very much AFL standard. I know nothing about him and that's the first time I've clapped eyes on him.

Touched on by Blueinblood but Adam Marcon would have to be a real chance. Really stepped up over the off-season and is averaging over 20 possessions a game through the midfield.

Adam Cockie from Sandringham would be another chance. Has started the season extremely well after moving from WA.

From Frankston, Kyle Martin could be a chance after moving from Noble Park, has had an excellent start to the year.

Cockie is my favourite non AFL player, pity he played for West Coast though.

I have actually been thinking about this the past 48 hours and he seems to be behind Willie Wheeler in everyones thinking, but Marcon was playing in a bloody good midfield and doing a solid job, Wheeler doing a very good job in a poor(ish) midfield.

I actually think that I would pick Marcon ahead of Wheeler. Willie seems too one dimensional, he could potentially play as a roving forward as he seems to read the ball of the pack really well, but Marcon wouldnt be too dar behind.

I just think Marcon could come in next year and push for a variety of positions at an AFL club, possibly starting out in a back pocket/half back flank and progressing into a midfield role over time.

Marcon can play inside and out, can play forward or back and is more than apt by either hand or either foot. Willie seems to be one dimensional, is limited by what he can do, and where he can play and reminds me a little bit of nathan Foley ().

From Frankston, Kyle Martin could be a chance after moving from Noble Park, has had an excellent start to the year.

Seen Frankston a couple of times and tbh they are going to struggle again this time. They dont have anyone that has really stamped themselves on a game as yet (obviously taking into account the fact I havent seen all there games, and did not see there win on the weekend over Coburg).

Of the Frankston players I have seen, Robbie Clements, the younger brother of Frankston Heat Cricket Club opening batsmen Ben, Robbie may be short on stature but more than makes up for it with his endeavour and certainly has a bit of prick about him. not sure he is AFL standard but he is an ample VFl listed player.

Luke Potts has been a favourite of mind, midfielder who can play inside or outside, forward or back and spends a bit of time on the ball. Captain of the young Dolphins outfit this year, he leading the young chargers well.

Corey Buchan, the same Corey Buchan who led the TAC Cup goalkicking couple of years ago (or was it last year?) has come in this year and done a really, really good job. Playing as a high half forward, his creative thinking and play has been a standout in the game I saw earlier in the year.

The three Box Hill guys are all standouts and could be on an AFL list should they be given a chance. Leigh Kitchin has been a gun for a couple of years now, Dylan Van Unen is a gem and Jackson Sketcher has some underage pedigree, winning the TAC cup league medal.

Myles Sewell @ North Ballarat: is he a chance this national draft or rookie?

I think he might be getting a bit old to have many chances.

I can only see a Team Rooking him IF some team took him

Really surprised Willie Wheeler wasn't picked up last year. Looks to have gone up another level this year and is a chance to be picked up. Plenty worse players than him currently running around AFL grounds on weekends.

Another 5 goals from the former Cricket Victoria rookie Jackson Coleman against Bendigo yesterday, 12 goals in 4 games.

Saw him yesterday at the game and he just knew what he was doing in the F50. Takes big grabs, can ruck in the forward 50 and is a good kick for goal.

these young big guys are doing the job in the VFL this year.

Former St rookie Khan Haretuku has been one of Frankston's best this season playing as a key forward/ruckmen.

Matthew Boland has also been very good for Collingwoods Vfl side this season, averaging 3 goals a game. A strong marking FF, Boland could be a good option for a team looking for a more mature Key Forward.

Not quite big enough to play FF at AFL level, but gee the bloke leading the Frosty can play.
