They will have been re-raising the 2008 flag for 5 years come first round next year....:thumbsu:

Another fixture 'teaser' has been announced on AFL.com.au, mentioning that we play Swans in round 4 in Sydney on a Friday night-surely we won't be sent to Perth in R2 also (meaning 2 interstate trips in the first 4 weeks)?

This is the AFL we are talking about - back in 2009 we played the Eagles in Perth on June 7 (rnd 11), had the bye the next week and followed that up with a match against Freo, back in Perth on June 21. So 2 matches in Perth in 2 weeks - no reason why the AFL would have 2nd thoughts about sending us to Perth in rnd 2 and follow that up with a rnd 4 trip to Sydney; if anything they might decide to throw in a trip to Brisbane or GC for rnd 3 just to see us do a circuit of the country in the 1st 3 weeks and book us on a round Australia flight.

They did in 2011

We played Fremantle in Perth in round 2 and the Swans in Sydney two weeks later (both games were Saturday night ones from memory)

You're right cats 09- I have a short memory in regard to our past fixtures-I may be booking my Gold Coast trip for round 3 :thumbsu:

However, seems like a tricky start to the year with the 2 grand finalists in the first 4 rounds!

I think this is a good thing. They'll have Grand Final hang overs and will be under done, I wouldn't expect them to hit full speed until round 9 or 10. Rather play them at the start of the year than between round 16-20.

What makes you think we won't get them both again then?

Hawthorn twice is a certainty, Sydney twice is also highly likely.
Just heard of two more leaks on the main board- Bombers v Freo and Eagles v Crows in Round 2. Seeing as though we play the Swans interstate in Round 4, this means we won't play in Perth until at least Round 6. :thumbsu:
Still think it's likely we'll play interstate in Round 2 though, albeit in Queensland, against Port at Football Park, or against the Giants at Skoda.

Don't think it will be the Giants at Skoda as they can't play there the first 2-3 weeks of the season because of the Royal Easter Show

Reckon if we go interstate in round 2, will be to either one of the QLD sides or Adelaide to play the Power

Forgot about the Easter show.
Brisbane play away in Round 23, so that means in Round 2 they'll have a home game (the Suns won't as both QLD clubs alternate between home/away). From what I can gather, it now looks increasingly likely we'll be playing interstate on Sunday against either Brisbane or Port in Round 2.

I did hear a rumour that in the first draft of the fixture the club got that we had games at the MCG in rounds 1, 2 and 5, games at ES in rounds 6 and 9 , then got back to back interstate trips in rounds 3-4 and 7-8 which then leads to the first Simonds Stadium game in round 10 before having a bye in round 11 (although source wouldn't confirm were they heard this from) so I don't think what they were telling the truth

If we get two lots of consecutive interstate trips, I will actually throw up. You can bet you house on two of those being in Perth should this rumour be true.

would not be surprised if that is spot on, 3 interstate trips in the first month

doesn't matter though...Hawthorn will be begin to slip next year and they won't be beating us for a while yet, not after some of Brereton's recent remarks about the club failing to make the finals next year.
It's not like we lost to them when they were in peak form this year either ;)

It would be easy to get complacent about Hawthorn and then get beaten.
Remember how determined we were in '09...

We will need to play at the top of our game - as always - to beat them in 2013

true and looking back, the only round 1 matches we have lost in the last 7 years have been 07 and this season.
Winning straight up seems to give the guys the boost needed to start of the year

So I get all the portents spot-on, what should I be thinking if the first game is a draw?;)

that's where betting can be a slight positive as the odds should be enough to tell you a draw will not happen.
I'm not even sure when we last drew with them?

We're playing the first 4 games in 18 days. That means a 6 day break every round. Surely they won't make us travel interstate more than once with a month full of 6 day breaks.
