Preview 2013 AFL fixture released

I'd love to play a big side next season for one of our home games at Kardinia Park (Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, Hawthorn) and don't see any reason why it shouldn't happen with the new light towers and larger capacity.
If we're getting 80,000 to the Hawthorn games and over 60,000 to Collingwood, there's an answer as to why not. I can't justify locking out half the potential capacity to the game regardless of home-ground advantage.

We got 65,000 against the Hawks this year, of which only 20-25,000 would've been Cats supporters. They would all fit into Kardinia Park. As for opposition supporters, who cares if we lock them out? Sorry, but it's our home ground and our fans should have first dibs on seats, not them.

Once upon a time we used to play these teams at home, and I don't think it would be too much to ask to have a big club play here every couple of years.

We got nowhere near 80k against Hawthorn this season, the first game on Easter Monday attracted 69,000 and the return match in Round 19 drew 65,000.
I'm of the opinion that 'big 4' clubs should travel to Simonds, even if they only do so on an occasional basis. It is just plain unfair, for example, that the Bombers haven't had to play here since 1993 (the Pies last played here in 2001/02 and Carlton in the late 90s if my memory serves me correct).

I want to play Hawthorn at KP so bad.

Me too, but ATM hosting a side such as Richmond or St. Kilda is probably the best we can ask for.
Having said that, I can see Hawthorn potentially playing here again in a few years time when they begin to fall out of contention and become rubbish again, and are therefore unable to draw the crowds they currently draw.

I don't buy into the conspiracy AFL-designs-the-draw-to-advantage-certain-teams theories.

Still, you know that we're going to get a tougher draw than most for the simple fact that we WILL play Hawthorn twice, and will probably play the Pies twice as well.

I have no issue with that either, I love those games and would rather see that than playing the Dogs or Port twice over.

I agree, do you really think that big business blokes like Cook and previously Costa would let that slide if they had even the slightest inkling that the AFL was loading the draws?
Its a nice idea, but we are a drawcard team so why the hell wouldnt they want us to be successful?

I cant remember the exact number, but we make a lot more off a sold out KP game than a 80,000 MCG game.
Stuff the opposition supporters, its not their home game!! Essentially when we play our "home" game against the Pies at the MCG its their home game because they get the far greater attendance - majority of the time due to it being a friday game and being hard for people living in Geelong to get there - creating the cauldron effect for the Pies.

Why cant we be afforded the same luxury? The AFL have no excuse as to the "blockbuster" value to TV stations next year as we will have lights and be able to have night games!!

The ONLY reason we wont get a team like Collingwood or Hawthorn at KP is due to the fact that the AFL will loose too much money, not us!!

Can't wait till the run home...what is it, 7 of the last 11 games at KP?

This'll be great. Look out if we're in the top 6 before that!

I reckon we will only play collingwood once. Richmond, Essendon, Carlton should all be thereabouts next year, as well as Hawthorn and Sydney attractive for tv and AFL attendance wise in games against Collingwood.

No doubt we will get Hawthorn twice.

We better not get screwed over only playing the Perth teams once, in Perth, for the 100th year in a row.

Pre 2007 it was very rare for cats in perth twice and some years we didnt play here at all.

But yarn>truth these days.

If we are in Perth twice and don't see either here im gunna spew..

Hawthorn twice thanks - 8 points in the bag - sure to be suffering a hangover of some description

Not fussed who we get early, keen to see our run home with all our home games in Geelong back-ended

But yeah, no doubt we will get screwed if only to prove their equalization policy is working, only hope they get it wrong, think Adelaide, Sydney this year..

I have heard that Geelong will play 8 games at home and that there first game is a friday night game played in round 11. This would then mean the Cats then play 7 games at home between 12 - 23. A solid start to season would leave a strong charge to the finals. Don't you think?.

8 home games? I read that we're only supposed to be getting 7 games at KP again. Hope I'm proven wrong though and we do receive 8.

Absolutely. Can see the club putting everything into a strong start to the year with a view to coming home with a wet sail at k-park. Senior players won't be nursed through nab cup with a view to hitting the ground running early and if things go pear shaped then it might be a case of getting plenty of games into the kids, but a winning start is essential to our flag hopes..

It's only seven home games for next year unfortunately, the first in Round 10 on Sat night. Just hope we don't get any home games at the phone dome again, even though we probably will.

Last time, they beat us at Geelong.

Hawthorn have won something like 9 of their last 12 games at SS, although they haven't played here since 2006. Still, IMO a 2 point win against them at the G would probably be a 4-5 goal win down here.

2006 is quite a while ago.

Last time, we were not a triple premiership team, we didn't have the most All Australians in the competition, we didn't have a good record at home, we didn't have the best 5 year record of all time, we didn't have a superstar defence, we didn't match up extremely well against Hawthorn, we didn't stand up when the going got tough, we didn't have the self-belief we have today, we didn't have a team-oriented culture, we didn't instill the fear and mental doubt into the Hawks, we didn't have the standards we do now, we didn't win a premiership without our best player, we didn't win a premiership under a rookie coach and we didn't have every kid that came in look like a 10-year player. But most importantly, we didn't have Chapman at his bruising, hearty, passionate best. And that's hopefully what we'll get if we play Hawthorn at KP in 2013! (Which I highly doubt will happen :( )

Honestly don't know. We do not play KP as effectively as we do the G. Stats suggest otherwise, BUT the teams we play at Geelong are mostly jetlagged interstaters.

Beautifully put.
Can't wait to play them at Geelong.
Even if it is much further away.

I'd be thinking the only home game we would get at jiihad would be the bombers one.
Even then, with our increased capacity & the slim profit margin on jiihad we would lobby pretty hard to get it at KP.

And I rekon hawks would get flogged at KP, they are soft as butter under pressure & playing in front of our crowd would only add to that!!
Bring it on I say!! :)

Have not played the following teams at these venues for a while:-

Melbourne at MCG (last time was 2010)
Richmond at MCG
Brisbane Lions at Symons Stadium
GWS at Skoda Stadium
North Melbourne on a Friday Night at Etihad

I am voting with my wallet. No more ALF merchandise and no more attendance at any non-Kardinia games for this little black cat.

I will no longer feed the AFL wolf.

Is this the type of merchandise you are referring to?

These two I would like to see, Norf at jihad I would not.
Others I'd like to see:
Port @ AAMI (last time I think was 2008?)
St Kilda @ KP (last time was 2004?)

Id' love a home game against Carlton at the MCG. IIRC we haven't had a home game against the Blues there since 2000.

We played them there on the Anzac day weekend in 2010 and got belted.

To be honest, I'm a bit bemused at the persecution complexes on here. We've been a top two team for five straight years and the AFL created our fixtures accordingly (not that it really mattered much until 2012). They want to protect teams like GWS, GC, Melbourne and Port Adelaide from 25 goal+ beltings and there's plenty of teams that are better equipped than us to dish those out next year. What was our biggest win in 2012...10-11 goals? As fpm84 said, we are not a top two, (or even top four) team, so logic would dictate that we shouldn't get as hard a run with interstate trips (with no return game in Geelong) and the teams that we play twice. The only team we should be locked in to play twice is Hawthorn.

Isn't it funny that it was only a couple of years ago that we went 35 home and away rounds without meeting Hawthorn.
