No, weren't they regular free agents? My understanding is that Geelong weren't going to offer them a new contract if it came to it, but hadn't technically delisted them at that point in time.

Got to the game after 1/4 time from work. Reckon I missed all out goals being kicked. Settled in for a record score and got donuts.

That's funny. I chose not to go at q time after work because I thought both teams would put the queue in the rack and coast the last three quarters, I mean it was hardly going to be a close game was it. I listened on the radio to Sam Newman saying we were definitely going to win because we had to get a goal sooner or later. That was definitely the end of that era. And the worst part was no team ever felt out of a match against us. Took a long long time to fix that.

My guess would be that we only look at guys like Tippett if trading for Bruce or Delaney breaks down. Probably the same with Mitch Thorp. Second option choice like Maister was when we couldn't get in an established FB in the trade period.

I'm not sure, confused with the whole FA system. I kept thinking Jolly was a normal FA only just noticed he wasn't, i'm on the same track now!!

It's to do with coming out of contract and whether you're in the top 10 earners at the club. Or something.

I think there is an income threshold where below a certain amount they are considered a free agent.

Think it's if your in the top 7 paid at your club and it's your first time becoming a free agent you're a restricted FA. Next contract he'll be unrestricted either way.

After getting bagged for supposedly having an old list not too long ago. You can't please newspapers, it is like reading how well your Neighbour is doing. Nobody wants to hear it and won't pay to hear it!

It seems to me that we now have an over supply of 3rd/rebounding defender types. Roberton, Gilbert, Gwilt, Fisher, Simpkin, Dempster, Newnes and Webster. There is no way we can fit all these blokes in the one side. With that in mind here are two proposals that reduce the glut of 'medium' defenders and gives us some draft flexability.

Trade 1. Saints in : Suns pick 20 and 43
Gold Coast in: James Gwilt + Pick 25

Saints move up in the draft just the 5 spots. Doesn't look like much, but if we do get the Hawks Buddy compo pick it'd mean we would have 3 picks in a row, allowing us to draft for needs as well as talent.

Suns get an experienced rebounding defender that should slot straight into their starting 22. With Gwilt, pick 5 and Jack Martin they will be getting three players that will help them out straight away. I like the way they are building their list.

Trade 2. Saints in: Josh Bruce + Giants pick 21.
Giants in: Sam Fisher + David Armitage.

Saints now have picks 18, 19, 20 and 21. Woah! four picks in a row. We also get our man Bruce.

Giants get experience for their backline and a much needed hard-bodied midfielder after the departure of Adams and Tyson. Reckon they might be getting the better of the deal as well.

First deal isn't bad, although asking for 43 is probably a bit much. Second deal is pointless by us. Trade out our one of our few players in the right age who is proven for a completely speculative pick at 21 basically.

Thumb first despite indexed aisles makes one wonder if alliteration was not one of his strong suits growing up as an irradiated human, but I digress. Deep in decision string at the chips, do I go cheese? Do I go chicken? Do I buy salsa? The answer was not forthcoming and time was running short because I had shirked duties and decided that I just needed to get out of the house. Deciding to return to the aisle so that enlightenment could find its way to me and deliver a message as I roamed around I was suddenly halted. Something was amiss. It was like a 6th sense and I promptly checked the old woman in front of me to see if she was still breathing, which she was ergo I'm not stuck in a film. Having returned to the aisle to pick up a pack of cheese Twisties that I have 97% devoured whilst reading this thread, it became apparent what I was sensing; individuals needing clarification on listed documentation!

Well my fine fish loving friends and individuals who prefer large bovines, never fret for I am a giving sort when I've had my fix of sugar and saturated fat.

How to determine a Free Agent?​

1. If the player has spent 8 years or more at the very same club to display a badge of loyalty that says "we appreciate your enthusiasm despite your degrading talents" said player will be promoted to an agent of the club. Nice!
2. If this very same player had written in their contract "I shall be reimbursed for putting up with your skullduggery by being in the top 25th percentile of total player earnings" they shall be promoted to a restricted agent. Whereby the club then, when challenged, hit a flush draw to your pair of 7s and call, fist pump and rub in your face for the next year.
3. If the player had served less than 8 years, or been redrafted by that same club in a "well...you know... screw it these kids are shit." moment, that player can then go "good day sir, as you deemed it imperative to engage my career with a rubber glove, I shall be extending that glove to your rectum. Good day!" and they shall be unrestricted and allowed freedom to go.
4. If the player was not a gentleman of upstanding lineage and had bedded many a woman whilst masquerading as an individual of talent like the Count of Monte Cristo movie, and find themselves delisted from the club through security and a catapult, they would have to wait in a line whilst all the other free agents tried their luck for freedom before the rest of the clubs went "next...oh it's them..." so they could beg and plead to be let back on a list.

In the off chance you didn't get the pop culture.​

Matty White is a kid who has not been on a list for 8 years or more, nor was he paid enough to be int he top percentile of earnings, he was therefore unrestricted.​

Mount Buddy Franklin had been at the hawks for 8 years or more, and was a highly paid individual, he was then restricted.​

Darren Jolly was told to GTFO of Collingwood and delisted, therefore he is a delisted free agent.​

Now that you get it!​

You can see why some people might be chancing their luck (ie Ledgers request to be delisted gives him 3 bites; delisted free agent, draft, PSD) instead of 2.​

Trade 1: I reckon we may as well just trade Gilbert for pick 20 and leave 25 for us and let them keep 43 since it is pretty useless to both sides. Gilbert is more of a loss for us but it leaves us 25 to trade for something else.

Trade 2: I think that is pretty big unders for Armo. Alone I would guess he is worth between pick 11-15. GWS has only been asking for a pick between 20-25 for Bruce so no way is 20+21 worth Armo alone let alone including Fish. We'd almost be better of trying to get pick 2 from them but I doubt they will trade it for anything we can give them.

No way can we afford to trade Armo now that Dal's gone. Winning it in the middle was already a major concern of ours last year, we can't afford to lose midfielders - we need to add midfielders.

Even if we get Bruce, it's just going to mean that the opposition will be winning it out of the middle more and giving their forwards more opportunity. Bruce could be the best KPD in the league and we'd still suffer greatly.
