You know what the Saints need? A priority pick for Lenny's retirement. Right after their first pick. That would sort them out.
You shut your face hole.

Surely not? Have heard murmurings, but imagine the uproar if gillons first official port of call was giving his beloved saints a free kick so to speak. Won't happen imo

They are one of five clubs last year to get former Brisbane Lions first round draftees at a heavily discounted rate.

They've had their priority pick.

I know there is a fair bit of hype around Petracca's game today but I think it is important to remember that had he been born 1 day earlier he would have been eligible for last years draft. I think players like Aish, Kelly, Billings, and Bontempelli would be tearing the TAC cup apart in similar fashion to Petracca if they were playing in it this year.
Interesting point. Surprising this hasn't been brought up more, given others are getting the man-child tag.

Or second, if the bidding system likes us. :D
Yeah, I was assuming - a, that we finish at least mid-table and b, that Keays dominates next year.

Trying to work out whether this is pessimistic or optimistic. What a confusing sport we follow.

While we're talking comparisons, that Nick Jackson clip has made me think of Goose.

Ha I thought the same. Reads the ball coming in well, tidy long kick going out and looks to help with a few hand balls.

I'm hopeful that the league just moves away from priority picks altogether. The fashion seems to be backroom interventions: headhunt and fund coaching appointments, tip in for development etc. I also think that is a far better model for assistance if they do it properly. A new chairman would surely be a good opportunity to put priority picks largely to bed.

While this thread overloaded my notifications might as well chip in.

Awesome, the love for Keays grows the more I see him. Hammelmann is just a natural forward. Really smart on the lead and works hard to present.

You guys have a steal with Hammelmann. I'm so jealous - reckon he could well end up the best from this crop. So much to like; for your sake I hope he makes it.

Yeah, that's a strange one. If anything, I see Jenkins as a bit of a bash em up type tall forward, hits packs really hard and takes the big contested mark. The knock on Hammelman (if there is one) is his physicality.

The major knock on Jenkins from Crows fans perspective is that he's a bit soft. He doesn't straight line contests, he moves around them and kind of hits them from a contorted sideways 'whatever causes the least body contact' perspective. Hammelmann straight lines them at least (though he's not great in them).

When you say he's not great in them, do you just mean he doesn't fare that well because of body size, or that there is something missing technique wise in contested marking or bringing the ball to ground?

He's not Sam Durdin - who's a similar size/weight and clunks them. He just doesn't feel like a natural at it. Perhaps with 15 kilos he might work it up to a serviceable level but it just looks like it's not something he's particularly skilled in. Could be the body; perhaps some extra weight would give him a little more confidence to really attack the packs as he's got the tools but it's not something he's doing right now (and normally if they're not doing it at juniors, they won't do it much at senior level either).

I don't think it's particularly a technique issue though. More mentality, at a guess.

Priority picks at the end if the first round has always seemed fairer to me.

Seems (for this year at least) that they only award those to teams who dope their players.

I agree with what has been said previously, if Frawley goes, it is because he wants finals, he has said as much. That means he wont go the biggest offer, he will go to the strongest club. Perhaps Essendon or the Pies perhaps.

Geelong are suppose to be into him in a big way. Idea is to move Taylor forward.

They can reunite him with Rivers to re-form one of the most dominant defences of all time - Melbourne 2009 to 2012. o_O

They probably should be the best defenders in the AFL. After all, they got more practice than anyone else.
