Possesses the genuine outside line breaking athleticism and foot skills that we sorely require. Combine this with his marking ability for his size (189-190) and he becomes a very enticing prospect. Would imagine that he would be right around the mark at 5 or 6.
Cheers for the reply, sounds like a good fit for us. Looked good from the limited footage i've seen.

Is this the clubs way of possibly preparing us for the overlooking of one of the so-called top 4 locks?

Or not having the opportunity to overlook one of them.

possibly, but it could also mean a few are of roughly equal talent which is my take on it.

Nah, he definitely said it in a "we don't particularly rate any of the talls higher than the ones already on our list" kinda way.

He then turned the discussion towards midfield depth and experience.

Could very well be that there just isnt that stand out player like a Boyd. We get another tall or two from academy already, and have Close and Freeman going ok. Add maybe Ryder to that and I think our focus has shifted to boosting our midfield.

It's Leppas way of convincing us we are better off trading pick 4 for a key forward
In the end it might be better off. The only reason I'm saying that is the pick 4 will become pick 5, once Melbourne gets compensation for Frawley. The clear standouts that will be taken are Wright, Petracca, McCartin and Brayshaw in this years draft. After that you can't really tell.

Seems Petracca and Wright are some way off the Tom Boyd standard according to Leppa. Really just got the impression they aren't keen on them.

McCartin you mean?

This draft was always talked up as being a good one for KPP, but it seems most of the leading candidates are the aforementioned McCartin or Wright, or they are defenders who can occasionally play forward.

Paige Cardona's Phantom Draft 4.0
Pick 4: Brisbane - Patrick McCartin

Position: Key forward
Height: 193 cm, Weight: 95 kg, DOB: 19/04/1996
Club: Geelong Falcons
Projected draft range: 1-5
Player comparison: Jonathan Brown/Taylor Walker

It could turn out to be a dream scenario for the Lions, who’ve been super-keen on Paddy McCartin through the past 24 months. Unlike the majority of Brisbane’s current talls, McCartin is a genuine, old-fashioned full forward. He busts through packs, takes big contested grabs, inspires with his courage and is always the source of headaches for the opposition. He’d add the perfect dynamic to the beanpole, athletic and agile talls already at the club, and looms still very much in the frame for the number one pick. It was a frustrating year for Patrick McCartin who suffered niggles throughout the season that robbed him of a consistency and a clean run, all unfortunately coming at important times of the year. He was hampered by a quad complaint throughout the National Championships, and was struck down with an adductor strain in the qualifying final a fortnight ago. Ultimately, it meant he missed the semi-final, in which the Falcons bowed out in. When fully fit, McCartin is unstoppable: he’s an aerial threat and he demands the opposition’s best defender.

Yes, pleaaaaase. This is one guy you don't mess with. If he pops up at pick four, we'd make a huge mistake by not taking him.

Kiss my arse Roosy.

MELBOURNE coach Paul Roos wants pick No.3 in the NAB AFL Draft as compensation if unrestricted free agent James Frawley walks out on the club.

Several teams – including Geelong - have been linked to Frawley and the 25-year-old is yet to inform the Dees of any decision.

Speaking to melbournefc.com.au, Roos reiterated the 193cm utility was a required player but said the Demons would expect some decent compensation if he left.

Melbourne has the second pick in this year's draft and the Dees could receive the next selection if Frawley, who was originally drafted with pick No.12 in 2006, signs a lucrative contract at a rival club.

“It depends on length of contract but hopefully, if he does leave, we get pick three," Roos said.

"That’s probably what everyone is saying in the media and everyone from other clubs even see that as a fair compensation.

“If that does happen and we do get pick two and three, hopefully we can continue to make the club better.”

Do you reckon Frawley would fetch pick 3 on the open market?

I'm not so sure (I definitely wouldn't pay it myself), so why should the FA compensation be overs?

Ha. Nice try Roosy ;) Ryder is a better player, contracted, and I wouldn't trade pick 4.

It's another mechanism to help bottom teams. Apart from the player leaving of course.
