After watching Tommy Langdon play for Pies Friday Night I bloody hope our recruiters dont make the same mistake and overlook James Munro this year.. He will be better then Langdon.. We should have both on our list already IMO :(
With all due respect, we had three 'live' picks and took Billings, Dunstan and Acres, as well as bringing in Bruce, Delaney and Savage... Who was the 'mistake' pick there that cost us Langdon?

Don't know about mystery pick, but Shenton out, Munro in would have perhaps been obvious.

Although maybe we would have gone for Webster minor.

Yeah maybe... Was Munro even draftable?

Either way, Langdon was never going to be a first rounder, and we didn't have anything after that. I would've like him on board too, but I'm not crying foul over it.

After trade week, what was our next real pick after #19? If it was anywhere above 65 (and I suspect it was), then you COULD ask the question, is there any player on our list currently that Langdon is better than?

TDL?

Pretty sure that our next live pick would have been in the 90's at least, after we gave up pick 77 or so for Delaney, which I'm pretty sure was our lowest available pick to give North. If Langdon plays mostly across HB I'm not fussed, as we have a pile of options for that position going forward, if I'm not mistaken.

As much as I love the story of Langdon, and would absolutely love him on our list, there is not a chance in hell I'd take him over any of the players we either traded for or drafted.

Where do all you experts rate Adam Tomlinson when compared to the top end of this years draft?

Thinking we could try and get him for our 2nd rounder (about pick 20) and then use our first pick to reach a little for Brayshaw.
Right up there, as good as anyone from what I've seen so far. He's shown some outstanding form at AFL level, no other player in the draft can say that. Would be over the moon if we could get him with out 2nd pick, but unless we trade up I can't see that happening. Very, very talented player.

We gave picks away for nothing. All we had do was keep one Around 30-50 and draft him. Hell there's few players on our list that are just list cloggers that could have been delisted. Much rather Langdon/Munro then Shenton/Simpkin/Milera/TDL.

TDL, Milera, Simpkin, Siposs, Stanley.

Still can't work out why we kept Shenton on, don't think he'll make it.

Even if we still move Shenton on probably would have picked up Darren Jolly.

Jeremy Taylor
Tom Nicholls
Danny Stanley
Tom Murphy

Clearly a lot of those guys will re-sign during the year, but we should keep an eye out for any players that aren't getting as much opportunity as they should and go after them. The big names will cost too much to get and we will get better value from players looking for more game time.

Would happily bend over GWS for Jaksch and O'Rourke. Not really interested in any of the GCS players, as I think Bennell, May, Nicholls, Matera will stay with the Suns. Word is, Jaksch is very homesick. Time to get in his ear I say !

Agree with this. Always nice to keep a pick in the 40s or 50s to nab someone you rated much higher than that pick, does not need to be used if no-one of that calibre is available.

I'd happily have Luke Russell, i think he can become a pretty handy player as a midfielder. Won't get much time in a midfield of Prestia, Ablett, O'Meara, Martin, Lonergan, Swallow, Bennell etc.

Maybe Russell and O'Rourke for me, would need to get into O'Rourke's ear pretty fast plenty of Victorian clubs will be after him.

While we are at it Lonergan and Patton/Boyd while we are at it. :D

Even if we kept one of those picks it's very likely we would have selected Eli Templeton who we predicted would go top 30.

Beat me to it. I'll get you one day. :P

Agreed. What a bastard.

Maybe. Problem is they're all one thing Langdon was not; contracted. The club really hasn't got enough cash to be paying blokes out whilst bringing others in. if we messed up, we messed up in taking those blokes earlier, not last year's recruiting.

Which is my point, you don't always get lucky and have someone fall all the way into the rookie draft.
But if you go back to all our recent drafts we have had plenty of picks in that part of the draft, just the one year where we haven't. Nothing to stress about, we'll probably have them again this season in the 20-50 range.

We also weren't the only club to overlook Tom Langdon, 17 clubs overlooked him.

Someone on Saintsational said Treloar wants to come home. Would anyone swap our first rounder for him?
Depends what our first rounder is.

If we got one between 10-20 (not sure it'd be enough also not sure we would get one in that area) i'd say yes. Don't know what he is worth though but i do know he is a very good player currently. GWS would want a heap for him being contracted

Hopefully they don't play O'Rourke much if at all, keep his value down and we swoop first.

Considering in the last two off seasons we targeted Josh Caddy and David Myers i reckon O'Rourke is next.
