Recruiting for the St Kilda VFL side.
Ooh, ooh... now I'm starting to think about all those potential NZ scholarship players... Get them playing for our VFL affiliate while they're still on scholarship, so it has no bearing on our salary cap - but they're still playing alongside our AFL players and learning our AFL game-plan. And when they perform well enough to come onto the AFL list, we draft them immediately, with absolutely no risk of another team snaffling them first.
If the Cats want to recruit a player from their VFL team, they have to chuck them into the draft or rookie draft, and hope that no other team takes them first. But that is not a problem with international scholarships.
