List Mgmt. 2014 Draft

I don't pretend to know anything, but flicking through the draft vids of the kids on YouTube; Durdin and Keitel are most impressive. Maybe it's the number 7 that has me; buts there's a smidgen of Fyfe in Keitel.

In highlights Durdin looks better than Goddard and I'm not sure if he'll b e available at pick 13. Highlights can be so deceiving though.

I really like Lamb.

My money is on durdin if available, failing that it could be lamb, degoey or hopefully Pickett ( unlikely ) at our first pick.
Feels nice to know we'll get something half decent first up

Half decent. I hope we get a gun mid or very solid kpp. Selecting the best player available at each pick could help Freo stay in finals mode for a number of years to come.

Sorry mate, but the Pav void desperately needs to be filled.
Unless we traded in a KPF last week :( - nope, nothing we get in the draft this year will be filling a Pav void in the near future. We already have "the one"......... APENESS! If our match committee just pick him rd1 and let him loose for most of the season, we will be far better prepared for September than we were this year.
They will walk in with a list in order of preference (as usual) and take the best available with each selection. My only hope is that that list doesn't include any more speculative ones like Simpson.

I would be very happy if Apeness got about six to ten games next year, with one or two rising star quality games.
I don't think Simpson was speculative at the time. He was a slider from the top ten as a result of the revelations as to his fatherhood. His skills and achievements for Western Australia and South Australia were for all to see. I hope that talent is not lost to us.

Yeh, speculative probably wasn't the right word there Clem, but most were still at least marginally uneasy about the selection. There was already some rumblings that he was not entirely capable of the commitment required.

With hindsight I still would draft him. Really terrible draft class and the players after him (and quite a lot ahead of him) basically all look like list cloggers. A few players who might be serviceable at best. Our team knew the risk and were prepared to take it, and I think that was the right decision.

There aren't that many defenders that can keep a really good small forward shutdown for four whole quarters.
Look how often Walters or Balla will just explode for 10 minutes and kick 2 or 3. Ballas particularly can disappear for lengthy periods and then just bob up.
Nick Smith did an outstanding job on him in the finals. Sydneys ability to keep our 2 quiet is one reason the beat us.
I think it's more because there are only two small forwards they had to beat.

Brad Lloyd has since confirmed we considered trading away our latter pick(s) to upgrade pick 13. Also, only refers to us using Picks 13 & 34 for selections. Perhaps 54 is to be utilised to redraft a delisted player in the coming weeks.

“We found that to get up the draft order in the first round we were going to jeopardise our draft position and we were not prepared to do that. We’re very comfortable with our position and we see picks 13 and 34 as a great opportunity to get some young talent into the football club.”
