You'd be absolutely stoked as a recruiter to walk away from the draft with one of those 4 wouldn't you?
I think so and we really are lucky with the current group of academy players with Keays and most probably Hipwood that we will be bringing in. Of the four mentioned prior my preference mainly due to needs are Schache, Weitering, Francis then Parish. Very hard to split Francis and Weitering and only went the way I did due to our teams needs.

I think we will but I also can see Melb and Saints
Running through the AFL Ladder, despite tipping as a Lions fan rather than a neutral, I have us with Pick 5 at worst, but entirely possible pick 3-4. Given Weitering is likely to be pick 1, and Cal Mils is likely to be bid on in the top 5 and matched by Swans, either Schache or Francis should still be there you would think come our pick. (Hopefully anyway, otherwise we are drafting another Midfielder (Mathieson or Parish perhaps) and with Keays likely to be our 2nd pick, that is not really what we need.)

Wallace finally rating Lions Academy players having Hipwood at 19 in he's phantom draft.
Seriously??!! Is there a link to his phantom draft? I'm curious who else he has where???!!

Still it least our Academy is producing players getting noticed now

It's not really a phantom draft more on how he ranks players he does a top 20 on a show called TAC Cup Future Stars with Nathan Brown and Kevin Sheehan.

Mills getting bid on and matched doesn't affect our pick relative to those before us. It just shifts whoever bid and everyone below them, including us, down one.

If you go to him on Twitter he normally posts a pic of his top 20 each week. He is thelistmanager (ironic I know!)

Keays wa highly rated last year but seems to be dropping in a number of places this year.

Is he dropping or are other kids starting to perform a bit more do you think?

Those "in the know" still rating him as a Top 15 pick...that hasn't changed.
It's not like he has been injured or been consistently quiet in games. Racking up big numbers and in the best most weeks, named skipper of QLD u18s and a neafl rising star nomination so far this year. Difficult to see a player doing that going too far backwards

A couple of weeks ago the comment was made that div 2 players have less opportunity to push up before the championships (no tac cup or senior sanfl/wafl opportunities) and the first div 1 championship games occur before div 2 as well so players from vic, sa and wa push up through the first half of the year.

Meanwhile keays has 'just' been in the best against 'weak' opposition.

As JP said it'd more the second with out him having a chance against top opposition yet

He's played against fellow high draft picks in the U 18's as well as a couple of games against senior opposition - 23 possessions is his lowest tally from memory with 42 his best.

If we can use our 3rd rounder on him (after using our 2nd for a trade) - it'll be a good outcome as the points owed won't be that much if you compare a pick in the top 5.

All speculation still though...

Wouldn't take the best as gospel, sometimes it's just plain skewed. From what I've seen so far this year I'd say theres been probably a progression moreso than a regression, getting much more of the footy this year. I think the only difference is some people plain overrated him on the back of those publicised championships games last year.

Drafting really sooo hit and miss.....

Look at Rocky who didn't even get drafted through the main draft..... Over looked 90 times in the main draft and slipping through to the rookie draft. He has gone on to be an All Australian and AFL club captain. He would be a top 5 player at any club.

You have to wonder about a player like Jayden McGrath also.... Straight out of the box he makes it into our top 22 and was a clear standout AFL player...... Yet nearly missed out on being drafted also only getting selected at pick 70 or something.
Sam Mayes who was pick 8.... And into his third year is struggling to make our 22.
