Brownlow Medallist
As petty as it can get between fans, no club is petty enough to compromise pick 1 just to spite another. That would be beyond absurd.
They might just take him because they need a Key Forward just as much as we do.

You mean hand him the captaincy, don't you...?I reckon Weitering has Carlton written all over him. They'll recruit him and immediately describe him as a "potential captain". Which he probably is.

I also think that people have failed to factor in the influence of the Academies in producing more top end talent out of Qld and NSW. 5 of the top 20 look likely to be from Academies. Using Twomey's phantom draft of a couple of months ago, that potentially includes pick 3, 5, 9, 14 and 15. There has never been that sort of production out of the non-football states before. What that means is that the Vic/WA/SA clubs get better players with lower picks. The kid who might have been pick 12 before the Academies started delivering more talent is now available at pick 18.
If the non-football states previously produced about 1 elite junior player a year previously, and the Academies can lift that to 4 or 5 a year, then the quality of the drafts will inevitably improve.
If you read which way the wind is blowing, it seems pretty clear that the first two picks in the draft will belong to Carlton and Brisbane. We will get our man.
Tell Eddie.
Nice story on Ben Keays on the AFL site today.
BEN Keays was already a Brisbane Lions supporter when he moved from Melbourne to Brisbane as a five-year-old in 2002. His dad grew up a Fitzroy fan, and Keays attended the 2001 Grand Final when the club clinched a breakthrough premiership win.
They went again to the Grand Final in 2004, when the Lions' run of three flags came to an end. "I was bawling my eyes out when we lost," Keays said. "That was a sad day."
I like him already. He might have to jump aboard my Josh Clayton bandwagon, if he's picked up by the Lions.
I notice the consensus here is that Schache is a lock for our first pick. Reading a bit on Francis this morning, wondering if we may opt to take him first with Hipwood available to us also.

33. Wylie Buzza – Redland/Brisbane academy (Forward 198cm/97kgs)
This kid has instant cult figure status. Crowds will be going BZZZZZZZ every time he’s around the ball. He’s big, strong and has good hands. A genuine match-winner in the making.

I have seen quite a bit of the Bushrangers this year and really like Clayton as a footballer. He wins his own ball, is clean with his disposal and, contrary to some opinions expressed, does have an outside game. Would be a very good pick up but with his late season form and winning of the Morrish Medal I suspect he will go before any spare picks we might have. He's definitely a great option.
Clayton Oliver is one I like the sounds of if we have a spare pick available. Sounds like a well rounded midfielder to develop along with Keays, Robertson and Taylor.

His over aged I think. So a 19 year old prospect. Maybe a late pick will do.He's a curious prospect. Given he hasn't played in our reserves team and was only just added to the academy you think the club either doesn't rate him or are trying to keep him under wraps. You worry that it could come back to haunt us if we don't take him.

looks like a powerful unit but his right leg looks a bit weird... why is it all bent?I have seen quite a bit of the Bushrangers this year and really like Clayton as a footballer.
