If we walk away with Schache, Francis, Keays & Hipwood.

Well I don't think it could get much better then that, would be massive for us.
Would absolutely lose my but if that happened and you never know, Lueys compo and possibly Jed's (we did offer him a contract) added together (I'm hoping) and it just might.

You can't add compo together.

Agree, how great would be to pick up 3 legitimate top 20 prospects in one draft with almost zero go home worries.
Just reading the Keays interview on AFL site makes me think we are building a very good list of young Qlders who will be the future leaders of the club. Exactly what the club needs going forward.

yes, and jacob allison to come next year by all reports a potential top 5 draft rated player. i saw an early draft ranking had him at no. 1, has anyone seen him play? does he remind you of any current day or recent players?

When a 19 year old is considered "over age" then we really have lost the plot. Next we'll be retiring them at 25. I see that the average career span of an NFL player is something like three seasons. Yikes.

Think you may've missed the gist of my post.

I know his dad through my prior involvement at Morningside. He played Fitzroy under 19's and had a grandfather who played a couple of games for Fitzroy too. He and his family absolutely bled Fitzroy and his love carried through to the Brisbane Lions. As mad as a Lions family you'll ever meet. Pretty good story considering the retention issues and perceived cultural issues we're having at the moment.

There are two Keays that played senior games for Fitzroy.

Frank Keays 5 games between 1919 and 1921 and Peter Keays who played 49 games between 1979 and 1981. One seems a bit old to be Ben Keays grandfather and the other seems slightly too young.

Of course that doesn't rule out other members of the Keays family playing Fitzroy reserves and under 19s.

Could be on his mothers side .....(not a Keays) ....... that would mean many potential candidates .......(just sayin')

Yes that's true. The article did mention though that it was his father who was the mad Fitzroy supporter.

Apologies, I meant his great grandfather (Matt's grandfather). He has a surprisingly lengthy wikipedia article which can be found here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Keays

Never said it was a bad thing. Just something to identify players in terms of age. 17 year old players are labelled as under-aged prospects and 19 year olds are identified as over aged prospects. It's a under 18 competition after all. Just the terminology that is used in the industry by recruiters.

Yes, I wasn't being critical of you and I do realise it is the terminology now being used for anyone over 18. I just think it is a sad state of affairs when we come to draw the line at 18. I think it's too young, personal opinion.

I don't think recruiters see it that way. We drafted Freeman at 19. It's just that a 19 year old player would have expectations to perform to a higher level then a 17 or 18 year old, since there bodies have matured in that 12 month time period, that's all. Hence the term over-aged players.

Just curious about people's opinion on whether providing we got Schache, how much game time would he be looking at next season. Boyd and McCartin haven't played a huge amount of games in their first year/years. Fitness of Freeman and Close would probably be determining factors i reckon.
