Do you tell this to people from France, Italy, Spain and California? Are you wearing you Crows guernsey or Heaps Good T shirt whilst doing so?
You're a serious waste of oxygen.

My dear old Nan said to never use the C word except in exceptional circumstances.

I agree with you that people in the industry know a lot about wine, and that there is a lot of subtlety and nuance in the manufacture of wines, but 'the industry' do not make up the majority of consumers and a lot of consumers are masturbators, and i say this with a lot of experience in both the retail and hospitality side of the business. Like any luxury there will be rich masturbators, connoisseurs, and aspirational masturbators.

Admitting that the masturbators form a part of the consumption market is not the same as accepting that all grape juice taste the same and price is the only differentiator

haha well said. I worked in the heart of the Barossa for years and one thing I learnt was that there is a lot of propaganda thrown out aimed at the chronic masturbators connecting price point with superior quality.

Seriously dude, do you know how famous the vineyards of old Europe are? If you actually knew a local wine maker you would know that they are well aware of their place in the world. We make great wine in South Australia, but to declare it the wine capital of the world is parochial and wrong.
Declaring sa the wine capital is parochial & it is opinion.

The French may have older wineries, but their reds are a softer & more delicate style. I don't mind it for a change, but prefer our full bodied style.

I have just been through Italy & France... But only wore my crows' hat when our finals were on.

French make better white sparkling.

Italians make the best Chianti. Best ones are 100% sangiovese & I visited a few of their best.

I enjoy Spanish & Chilean spicy reds.

However, imo nothing beats a gutsy red, particularly shiraz & sa does it best.

Did you actually have a decent point or poor attempt at humour....
A mate of mine, whose family has been involved with the production of wine for decades, said there's really not much taste difference between a $30 bottle and a $100 bottle.

If you like reds check out the Mollydooker winery ar Mclaten Vale.

Mate, didn't you know Port supporters only talk about Burboun.

You are entitled to an opinion it's just the way you said it was very obnoxious. But if you believe one region is better than another you are a fool. Some years are better than others, some wineries are better at certain wines. SA is world famous for it's reds just like NZ is famous for its Sauvignon Blancs and France for its Champagne etc. Make no mistake, I know some very very rich wine makers in the Barossa who distribute the world over. Don't get sucked into believing what you see and hear on TV.

You mention France, Italy and Spain in the same breath as California ?? Californian wines are largely garbage.

For me to pay $40+ for a wine it needs to be special.

Most wines over $40 I consider over priced.

I know of $15 wines that are better than expensive drops.

The trick is to find the bargain value quality wines.

Weve been to a few of those local wine nights on Leigh Street in recent months, been great fun and haven't had a bad drop. As much as a Penfolds 389 is an amazing wine, theres plenty of smaller wineries who make things just as good at a fraction of the price.

As much as our PAP visitor would disagree, we make some of the worlds best. The Hunter Valley and Margaret River also.

Yes, but where is LA, so what wines appear in TV shows and movies? Californian wine of course. They most likely do produce some good wines but some people still hold 'the grass is greener on the other side of the fence' attitude to most things Australia produce. Plus to a snob what sounds better, an imported French Red or a local Barossa Red? even though the Barossa Red may sound nicer. It's the wank fest that comes out.

Having travelled the US recently the wine lists in most decent restaurants dont include many local drops.

Further many trainee winemakers from all over the world - including France - come to sa to complete their training. Why? Because we are recognised as having one of the best - if not the best - wine industries in the world.

To watch the Crows play live of course

I do know of some who have attended a game.

Unfortunately it's easier to get to a port game. ;)

I said we made great wine here. The Hunter is largely shit but Margaret River Cab Sav rivals the Coonawarra. We make excellent wine here in Souf Australia, its an important industry and a lot of people are doing fantastic things, but let's not kid ourselves and believe the rest of world thinks SA is wine Mecca.

Don't they? You know this? Do you have anything to back up your claim?

CNN rates us.

(CNN)Everyone knows the world's classic wine regions: Tuscany, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Rioja, Napa Valley.

Most are familiar with the "new classics" too, like South Africa's Stellenbosch, Marlborough in New Zealand and Australia's Barossa Valley.

I think Papa G has little to know knowledge of what he is talking about.

See you can post without being a tool. :)

It's debatable who makes the best wines as much comes down to personal taste.

However, you are kidding yourself if you don't realise sa's wine industry is recognised as one if the best.

Eg. It's was great to have a huge choice of local wines when in Scandinavia. There were just as many as other wine regions of the world.

Maybe Charlie doesn't really wanna play for Kern, he's looking at playing for Tanunda in the Barossa league
