Look - you can hang some s*** on Sanders about some of his opinions, but the guy genuinely knows a lot about wine.
But his opinions get completely dismissed/overlooked/ignored because of the condescending attitude. Shame really.

I'm afraid Sanders gets his rocks off by trying to belittle any poster who takes his bait, very similar to old Crow Mo but without the polish.
People who belittle tend often do so because they don't have true confidence in themself, so they do the tough talk to make themselves look good.

Unfortunately/fortunately most people end up seeing right through the facade they put up....

1 poorly selected internet article hardly makes him an expert on wine. ;)

Apart from Californian wines, why doesn't he talk about his favourite wineries, winemakers, bottles of wine, wine clubs he attends, etc if such as expert?

Btw, I'm not claiming he knows nothing about wine.. Just a little narrow in his knowledge.., but he has done his usual avoid all direct questions yet demanded I answer my views which I have. Usual stuff from the colonial as when it comes to the crunch, short on substance but big on personal bs.

I got so bored by a Friday night Carlton game I drank a whole bottle of wine. That was literally the only time I've ever drank wine and let me tell you, it made Carlton way more enjoyable to watch.

Lucky for me there's no more prime time Carlton games next year.
Did you passout at quarter time when the game was all over... ;)

About 7 years ago i went to Etihad stadium with a mate to watch Richmond v Melbourne (pre Hardwick) .....this was the era of kicking the ball backwards / sideways for 10 minutes in your back half

I watch every game to its completion .......this is the only game i walked out of halfway into the 3rd qtr .......this gamestyle nearly killed my passion for the game

He knows a lot more than that article.

He makes very good money in his field and still took a year away from it to do some work in the wine industry. He knows his s***.

Well it's not reflected in his postings so far!

I make good money in my field but doesn't make me an expert in everything...

Funnily enough I don't get tired of calling out pure fantasists, who big note themselves with bullshit.

I do get tired of reading it, and more tired of watching them dig deeper and deeper when called.
The irony!

Your posts usually lack any actual substance & you prefer to belittle others rather than join in the conversation.

Again tell us of your year long sabbatical on wine we hear about. What varieties do you enjoy? Any favourite winemakers or wineries?

Have to say I feel like you've just described your own posts. A fantasist that big notes yourself with what often seems like bullshit. But the thing that lets you down most is your condescending criticism and personal attacks. You may not get tired, but it's incredibly and increasingly tiresome to read.

I have to say, the story about filling a grange bottle with cheap red and fooling a wine snob DID sound like bullshit. ;)

Depends on the wine intellect of the wine snob. There are wannabes out their that just go on price and image but know nothing on what to look for. True wine industry experts would detect the difference instantly with the difference in body and taste. (not suggesting it tastes better) just their are ways of telling a more expensive wine compared to a cheap wine.

Have to say as a non-wine snob, that after the 3rd glass the cask wine tastes as good as the Grange and vice-a-versa

After the 3rd ....frankly as long as it has alcohol in it i'll drink it :drunk:

Whilst i think the colonel could do with some better manners i only recall him being a bs police. Not big noting himself. Can you honestly recall when he's started any discussion big noting himself?
Even his source on danger he was quite happy to say could be wrong as opposed to many who were banging on about believing their sources and or their own opinion being good enough to state as fact.
Hes just, to many tastes, OTT in tearing down someone he sees as wrong. This is incredibly different to bignoting himself IMO.
Any bs you care to dig up he's posted? I find him close to the least bs person on here. I think many are blinded by being belittled - which i agree is not a nice feeling.

Bigfella its rare I disagree with you - but on this occasion I disagree. Be-littling or 'tearing someone down', IMO is usually done to big-note yourself, make yourself look and feel better (usually publically) when you probably lack confidence in your own position. Sanders can decide whether or the cap fits - I'm not judging there.

The bottom line is this sort of constant unpleasant be-littilng of other posters drives other posters away and discourages them from participating in the conversation. And given that diverse, lively discussion is the life-blood of online forums maybe its time that a few posters here lift their game in this respect and recognise that we can all learn from diverse opinions. Just my thoughts and others are welcome to disagree. Oh and Happy Christmas BTW. :)
