Why doesnt someone who is in contact with Fages suggests for the Club to put the video of this game up on the website???

Surely this is the time of the year where marketing is crucial and having a game in some remote outback town is poor judgement by the AFL and by North and the Crows for not opposing it, although I assume they had little choice.

I think the Crows would have suggested a game out there.

The NAB Challenge is all about getting the game to the outer regions of Australia.

Pt Lincoln Hotels not complaining.
Edit: Mallee Park football club has had representatives from both clubs.

I think its implied due to the grey area that is the infringement notice without a positive test.

In other instances athletes have been required to stop training and competing when an infringement notice is issued, and the penalty is backdated to that point. In Essendons case theyve been given an exemption from the AFL which ASADA have approved to protect the identity of players who have not yet been 'found guilty' or given a positive sample.
It is in ASADA's charter to protect the identity of the players until they've been found guilty. If the player chooses to go public (like Ryder, Prismal, Crameri and now Dell'Olio) that is their choice. Training does not form a part of a provisional suspension, however does for part of the actual suspension.

Here's a little tidbit people might find amusing due to the irony. In Portugal, or at least in the North of Portugal where I've lived in the past, performance enhancing drugs are often colloquially referred to as 'bombas', which translated means 'bombs', and athletes who are found guilty or are suspected of using them are called 'bombeiros' which means 'bombers'. This may seem made up but I swear it's actually true.
Oh, I SO need to pinch this and put it on the HTB! :D

Im not opposed to having a game out in the country and yes you are right the concept is for giving the country areas a chance for AFL footy. But surely having the country footy played at the best country venue should have been the goal?

Or is this place in the country?

Do country areas have access to 4G? was it you or another poster that said there was no 4G out there?

That wasn't me. This shows that Centenary Oval in Port Lincoln has the highest level of 4G coverage available.

Mate we have 4G but internet speed is terrible (to be honest Telstra don't give a toss either). We struggle to have phone service/internet 16 km outside of Port Lincoln. If you have any provider other than Telstra just leave your phone at home if you plan to not stay in the CBD.

We have a population of 14000 and game will be attended by people from Whyalla through to Ceduna. Can tell you the oval looks first class although there is a turf wicket in the centre. (Junior cricket is not being played there from this point forward and senior cricket stops a couple of weeks before the game).

This will be good for the area and will be great to see K Ramsey if he gets a go & Betts running around Centenery again as it has been awhile

I hope its a capacity crowd to justify the game being played there. A poor showing would be a strong indication of a lack of interest.

Last years NAB at Richmond had a strong crowd so regardless of a trial being played it was strongly attended.

Go ahead, although I doubt the Essendon supporters will appreciate it.:p

Incidentally the word 'bombeiro' also means fireman, which is the most common usage of the word. I think the reference to doping comes from the word 'bomba' which also happens to mean 'pump' and hence the link to injections.

:(

Really think we missed a trick here...

When don't the Tigers have "a bit of a buzz" about some young spud they picked with their first or second rounder?

Every year we hear the same talk about the Tigers and their "cubs" and as each year goes by that talked up player is, in general, found out as being over-rated i.e. Conca, Vlastuin and Vickery in particular. Extremely ordinary list IMO.

I remember looking at his highlights before the draft and wondering if he'd be there for our second round pick. Looks exciting but built like a jockey.

Agree that their list is extremely ordinary when they go recruiting players like Sam Llyod, Troy Chaplin, Nathan Gordon, Matt Thomas, Shaun Hampson and an injury prone Ricky Pettard and Chris Knights. They would be so much better off actually playing their youngsters in Ben Lennon, McIntosh. Their first round picks have still been good over the years. Your point also has no bearing on whether Menadue is talented or not. A lot of people liked him going into the draft, I personally saw a lot of Brodie Smith about him and God knows we need another one of him.

And btw, Vlaustiun is a dead set jet. If you think otherwise you're kidding yourself. So much Luke Hodge about that kid. Conca is no doubt talented also, but persistent injuries strangled his development. Vickery? ehh....:p

My issue with them is I don't think that many (or any) of their players developed into superstar players. Cotchin is great, but I don't think he's in the same class as Pendlebury, Selwood, Fyfe etc as much as they hype him up to be and he has shown he can be tagged out of games easy enough. Some very very very good players, but nothing currently that's gonna suddenly catapult them from a 6-8 team into a top 4 team.

Walsh has said he'll play a a few of the kids in the 1st game, Ramsey included if only because he's from the area.

SOUTH Australian football legend Graham Cornes is making a shock comeback to coach the state — 16 years after last leading the Croweaters into state-of-origin battle.

Cornes, 66, was approached by the SANFL in January to coach its side against WA in May and grappled with a decision for a week before accepting the offer.

Having been involved with South Australian football for the best part of 50 years and as a passionate flag-bearer for the state, Cornes felt he had an obligation to do the job.

“I wouldn’t say no to the SANFL but it just took me a little while to be assured that I could still be relevant in today’s football,” Cornes said.

“When I finished coaching I always thought I’d coach again but as the years progressed that feeling waned and all but disappeared.

Cornes, who was the Crows’ inaugural coach in the AFL from 1991-1994, is also SA’s most successful state coach with an 8-2 win/loss record which finished at the MCG in 1999 — which also signalled the end of state-of-origin footy as it was known.

Apart from a one-off cameo with struggling club Aldinga last year, Cornes has not held the clipboard for 16 years and replaces Eagles coach Michael Godden who has stepped down from the role of SA coach with a perfect 3-0 record to focus on club duties.

Cornes represented SA 21 times as a player and said he couldn’t describe the pride of just holding the state jumper.

Although no longer played in its traditional format featuring the best footballers in the country, Cornes hopes state football remains relevant for those involved.

“I’d be really disappointed if any footballer who was in a position to wear a state guernsey didn’t feel a sense of pride,” he said.

“It’s a magnificent jumper, it’s probably the best football jumper in Australia, and there’s been so many heroics performed in it, so many great players have worn it, that it has to be a thrill for any player to put it on.

“I’d hope that they’d understand it’s an enormous honour to wear a state jumper — at any level.”

Cornes said he would refrain from boring his players with any “old footy stories” but yesterday told The Advertiser three state games he was involved with instantly came to mind.
Not quite sure what to think of that to be honest.

Funny how so many people heap shit on Richmond. Finished top 8 last two years (5th and 8th). Have beaten us 4 out of the last 5 games.

Their list is in pretty decent shape actually and on the surface looks similar to ours. They have a solid midfield led by Maric wth Cotch, Martin, Lids, and Edwards. They have a premier forward in Riewoldt and a solid #2 KPF in Vickery. They have a young All Australian key defender in Rance. They have a fantastic rebounding defender in Ellis. Only Maric and Chaplin are over 28. They also have a bunch of top 15 draft picks that are yet to really establish themselves as quality players - Corey Ellis, Ben Lennon, Nick Vlaustin and even Reece Conca (still only 22). Anthony Miles will also be a gun.

In my opinion - Their list is very similar to ours.

Before you bash Vickery too heavily. Compare his stats to Josh Jenkins over the past 2 years on a per game basis. I would take Vickery over Jenkins in a heartbeat purely due to the fact he is a better ruckman and a much marking option inside 50.

You were going really good with it all until the Vickery over Jenkins comment.

Since beginning of 2013 here is their production

Jenkins 37 games. 64 goals. 50 behinds. 164 marks. 116 hitouts. 39 contested marks. 68 Marks inside 50. Goal Assists 14. 3 brownlow votes.

Vickery 33 games. 50 goals. 29 behinds. 162 marks. 248 hitouts. 44 contested marks. 64 Marks inside 50. Goal Assists 18. 2 brownlow votes

Pretty similar stats. Jenkins hurts more on the scoreboard. Vickery is much better in the ruck. To me they are pretty similar in their output. I think that Vickery would address our needs more than Jenkins due to his ability to ruck. Plus there is a hell of a lot more upside to Vickery than there is to Jenkins.

Why would Vickery have more upside? He would have played more games and have more football experience than Jenkins.

Vickery has played nearly 40 more games than Jenkins. I would bet the next 40 games from Jenkins will be better than the last 40.
